5:14 I'm a hardy 32 year old bloke from Australia and I find the makeup thing is so hypocritical. They are performers, they don't wear it casually and even when they do, it's no different to any other artists, movie stars, news anchors or performers. Why can Prince, David Bowie, Billy Joe Armstrong (Green Day), Marilyn Manson, Mick Jagger, Steven Tyler, Iggy Pop, Boy George but somehow BTS can't get a pass? Also, every time I see this performance I get bloody chills. Keep in mind that BTS played TWO SOLD OUT NIGHTS at Wembley stadium. It is incredibly hard to be a non-English speaking artist AND that popular to sell out Wembley Stadium. Only about ~10 artists have done it and they're all amongst the greatest. BTS managed to do it within only 6 years since their debut (2013 debut, 2019 concert). My mind is BLOWN every time, seriously. 🤯

Well said! Ppl watching Broadway or any other huge and colossal theatre performances will notice that the artists wearing heavy make up only if they see them up close. Kpop performance concept in general is no different. Those huge stages, crazy lighting and all stage productions even 'only' for TV broadcasts need heavy- heavy make up to highlight the visuals, expressions & characters (not to mention the theatrical concept itself). Otherwise, they will look pale, drowned in the middle of the giant stage and lightstick ocean 😁 They didnt notice that the boys were still in heavy make up but only looked natural and showed their 'masculine swag' as expected by mainstream hiphop world.

He also spells it bc it represents both 'tear: teer', and 'tear: tare', and spelling it is the only way to express both meanings at once as it's impossible to say it as a word bc of the phonetic difference. Suga also has been quoted as saying he wrote it bc he just thought it sounded cool, so who really knows lol. He's so humble I wouldn't be surprised that it's deeper than that and he's just being cheeky.

Important backstory: Tear was released in May 2018, but ARMY didn't know the meaning until 2020. During an acceptance speech in Dec 2018 for winning Artist of the Year (their first), all of the guys cried (hard) as they shared their thanks, and Jin revelated for the first time that earlier that year they'd talked about disbanding. ARMY was SHOCKED but still in the dark. In Sep 2020, BTS released a docuseries called Break the Silence, and there Suga talked about writing TEAR during early 2018 when they were discussing disbandment. Elsewhere in 2020 and 2021 they shared more about those struggles, and it was primarily out of fear and pressure over how big they were getting. At the end of 2017 they'd had their first performance at a US awards show, and the international spotlight was intense and difficult to process. It's crucial to understand BTS aren't *just* international stars, they are also quite literally breaking barriers, forging new paths, and have become representatives of their nation and the Korean pop culture movement in the West. Korean government officials and everyday citizens have put BTS on a platform, sometimes with pride and sometimes with ulterior motives, but truly no artist in the world has ever had this level of attention and pressure from EVERY angle. And yet through it all they remain vulnerable with ARMY, and humble. So Tear is now WAY more than just a good song for ARMY. It represents everything about why we have such a unique bond with BTS, why we're deeply loyal and protective. If you want a glimpse of their love for each other and for ARMY and how they aren't afraid to show their emotions, you can watch their 8-min award speech where Jin dropped the bomb. You can skip to the 1:30 mark in this vid with subtitles: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rIfWaGRml62ehKM

This live performance gives me chills every time. Their ability to exceed the studio recordings every time live is why they are the hardest to get concert tickets for years now. The outfits were custom Dior and when I say Army are Still talking and not over those fits. Legendary. Sugas abilities as a producer and song writer shine. I honestly feel like this songs raw feelings and the emotions helped them decide to stay together and it’s why Army hold this song as not just good but a legendary important song to BTS and us. It made BTS all cry when he played it for them and RM and Jhopes verses fit so damn perfect. And yes the level of detail at concerts from video guys to color of light sticks is all carefully crafted. Fyi there is no “too long” for Army. We are a greedy fandom and millions of us watched a graphic of butter melting for hours once just because BTS had it up.

YESSSS you guys reacted to Tear! We love this song. We only found out last year that they wrote this song about the possibility of disbandment. So since 2018-last year, we had no idea the true reason for the heartbreak in this song. Jhope killed it at the end. And never apologize for long videos- we will watch long ones in one sitting if we like the reactors. I’m bummed you guys weren’t able to go to the last “concert” which was Jhope’s headlining performance at Lollapalooza at the end of July. Just google it and be amazed by the articles describing the records he broke (tickets sold, online viewers, amount of merch sold, Lollapalooza announcing they would move up Jhope’s start time to give him more time to perform, etc). I was there for Lollapalooza and while I respect and enjoyed the other artists’ performances, I was blown away by the sheer energy and stamina Jhope’s performance had. The other artists barely moved around the stage but Jhope TOOK OVER the stage. Green Day was simultaneously headlining at another stage across the park from Jhope but the crowds for Jhope were INSANE. Bangtang tv channel uploaded the full performance if you want to watch it! And yes, we will sit and watch you react to over an hour of content 😊 just wanting you that he performs songs from both his last day mixtape and his first one. But it’s a great live performance. I really hope you watch Ddaeng (with an explanation video to delve into the lyrics) soon! 💜💜💜

I can see that a lot of ARMYs have told you that this song is about when they were considering disbandment but to clarify a little more it’s not because they didn’t like each other or anything like that. It’s because they were rising to popularity globally soo fast and they were scared of the pressures that came with all of that since they are the first Korean artists to ever reach the milestones that they have. So they always wanted to keep the love for one another and their love for their music at their forefront. And for their love for ARMY. They really are sooo incredible!! 🥹💜😭 BTS are the blueprint. BTS paved the way for all other Korean/ Asian artists to follow.

Btw, if you're wondering why they were thinking of disbanding, let me tell you a little bit about it. In early 2017, they received their first US award, the BBMA, and in late 2017 they made their US television debut at the AMAs. During that time, their popularity skyrocketed. And with that, all the pressure and the spotlight, as well as the hate and racism and xenophobia. They struggled with that level of fame and success. It was not something they expected or even wanted, and they had no one to guide them. Only PSY (of "Gangnam Style" fame) had ever experienced something similar. Suga said he thought he would be in the band only several years and their popularity would fade with time and he would return to being a producer. RM said it was like riding an air balloon, it was fun when they were flying in the sky, but then they rose so high that they couldn't even see the ground anymore, and it was scary. I think this went on in late 2017 and early 2018 and they eventually decided to stay together. In the end, it was their love for their fans and for each other that helped them make that decision. Suga wrote a poem for his bandmates about that, ending it with "What a relief, we are seven. What a relief, we are together." At a Korean award show in late 2018, during an acceptance speech, J-hope broke down and cried. Everybody cried. When it was Jin's turn to speak, he revealed that they considered disbanding earlier that year. It was an emotional speech.

Kim Namjoon (RM) “music transcends language” I really liked that you watched BOTH the performance and also the one that shows who is singing and the translation. It gives u the full appreciation, there really is a reason that they are so big and have the most devoted fans. Not just their performances and songs, but they had/have reality show for years, where we have gotten to see their personalities, vulnerabilities, and what makes each one of them so precious. They are the most humble, and respectful. You will never hear them trashing another band. For ARMY, they are family, and to BTS we are family. They unite all of us, and we cheer them on to be the best that they can be and for them to do what truly brings them joy inside and outside the spotlight. I know you are focused on rap and we all have specific genres we like, and I encourage you to keep on listening to their rap, but sometime you should listen to some of the other members who have a different style. It may not be your style, but you will see how talented all of them are and how magical this band is, they have something for everyone, and they pour every it into their performances. I would suggest: Intro:Singularity or Stigma (sung by V) The Truth Untold Epiphany (sung by Jin) 00:00 (Zero o’clock) the significance is really important to a lot of us Film Out (you still get the rappers, but the singing line, you get to hear all of them) Filter or Serendipity (Jimin) Make It Right My Time (Jungkook) 134340 Dimple I agree with others, ARMY doesn’t mind long videos, we like watching people enjoying BTS and discovering what they didn’t no existed.

fun fact today: Tickets for the BTS concert in Busan on October 15 sold out in 15 minutes. The place had a total capacity of 100k people, some sitting and others standing. There were around 200,000-400,000 waiting in line at the website to get a ticket, but the site crashed. the concert will also be streamed for free, via the Weverse app.

New: From what’s gathered, BTS sold the stadium out in 35 SECONDS (not 15 minutes!), but there was still 450k people waiting in line before the site crashed.

I like it when you watch the video and then read the lyrics. It doesn't matter if it's long. Army's are here for it.

Thanks for the reaction, guys! It’s still pretty hard for me not to cry during this song.💜💜 There is so much emotion pouring through their voices (especially Hobi) and you can tell how much they mean to each other💜💜. Also, ARMY definitely does not mind long videos. We are enjoying watching you get to know BTS!💜🌤

Same. I can barely sit through this song, even when listening to it in the car, without a few tears falling from my eyes. It’s just so full of raw emotion, it’s hard to stay unmoved.

I knew you’ll love this song. This is in my top 3 from BTS. Also, J-hope is a consummate musician. He recently headlined lollapalooza, the first korean artist to ever do so. More than 100k people attended his performance and he absolutely killed it. You just haven’t discovered what he can do yet. 😊😊 Thank you for your reaction. We don’t mind long. Armys will sit and watch 1 hr long videos too if they respect the reactors and enjoy their content. 💜💜

This one of my favorite songs out of all BTS songs! She led me to fall in love with hip hop 🙌🏼 The song was written by Suga at a time when they were on the verge of breaking up the group. Suga: "The lyrics of 'Tear' were written for the members. When I wrote the melody, at that time we thought deeply about whether we should part ways or not. When I played the song for the members, we all cried together.” I'm in tears every time I hear this song… knowing this and remembering their speech at the Mama 2018 awards (where they admitted that they were thinking about the breakup of the group) when they all cried because they could not imagine that in half a year their albums would be the most sold in the history of music and they would take the artist of the year for the first time …

Judging J Hope based on Cypher works from 2013 and 2014 is a bit of an injustice. Unlike RM and Suga, he never rapped before joining BTS. In 2022 J Hope was chosen to perform his first solo concert as headliner for the Lollapalooza music festival in Chicago in front of over 100,000 people. Most of the material performed was original rap-based material. Currently most would say he is a world class rapper who has developed a signature style. Perhaps you should take a gander at his Lollapalooza concert, particularly the first set which was mostly comprised of his latest works. You would enjoy it.

If you get a chance they just released their BTS LA concert on Disney+ . You can really see why their concerts are seriously the best. When I went to the Las Vegas ones it was seriously the best show I have ever seen. You should also watch JHopes full Lollapalooza show. It was so good.

Suga said this song was written for the guys when they were all contemplating disbandment. He said once the song was somewhat done he played it for the rest of the members and they all cried. Ps. Trust me guys, ARMY loves long videos, and when I say long, I mean _long_ (hour long vids are no problem for us)

This song hit harder when you really understand the heartbreak behind it Most bts songs are likes lyrics that are so deep but the vibe of the song is badass or so fun 💜 But fr that what I realised their stage presence is powerful their concerts are GREAT it's not about their looks each of the 7 feels like this man is born to perform

Forgot to mention that one of their LA concerts was recorded and is available on Disney+, search for “BTS permission to dance”. I’m listening to it now, and was moved to tears by the beautiful live vocals of Blue and Gray, then the opening instrumental sequence of Black Swan. Btw, sounds like a live band behind them. BS&T playing now, omg, FL with a snip of BS between…

Not too long, loved the video. Really enjoyed how much you truly appreciate them. This song tears my heart out every time I hear it. The onomatopoeia of J-Hope in the live sounds like a heart being ripped out. They don't hold anything back, part of what makes them so captivating to watch, it all gets left out on the stage. 😘💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
