I respectfully disagree with the opening and the inclusion of solo stans. The reason most armys dislike solo stans is because the majority of them will aggressively hate on other members of the group. I'm of the opinion that no, you don't have to love all of BTS if you were introduced to a member's solo music and that was your vibe, where the group music or other members' music was not, but solo stans are a particular type of fan who, largely, spends their time comparing their favorite member to the others, insulting the others' achievements, mocking, bullying, and occasionally even threatening other members. There's another older term for them as well, "manti" meaning manager anti or manager army (this term also encompasses some armys as well). That's because they not only insult other members, but act as if their favorite member is being controlled by their company and forced to do group work, but actually hates it or hates the other members, etc. They literally try to "manage" them. If you're a fan of one member? Cool, we're good! But solo stans, a particular type of fan, will never be welcomed by army and for good reason.
@AudioAddictionmedia6 ай бұрын
oh yeah, poorly said on my part I really just meant "whether you only know one member or you know all of them" we all love bts- tbf, I don't think the general public understand that terminology when they are introduced to the solo work of the members, so I didn't know how else to put that. But of course no hate towards BTS should be tolerated, I just wish I could bake a cake filled with rainbows and smiles and everyone would eat and be happy 🥹 -therese

ARMY calling the radio station didn't get us spins. We even have tweets from major DJs telling us that they weren't playing BTS because "they said" we weren't requesting their songs. We sent stations flowers, donuts, cupcakes etc for interviews and hoping they would play the music. Many of them FINALLY in 2019 when by sheer willpower of ARMY buying and streaming we go ON to #4 told us because they speak Korean they were never going to get radio spins (one also said they weren't "playing ball"). After all the DJs lying to us saying they couldn't wait for MOTS: Persona to come out, we finally knew the deal and said screw radio we'll do it ourselves. We've won most requested live MANY TIMES and never got our songs played. So I don't know where you got that from but calling the stations didn't work. A couple DJs even said in interviews/podcasts that we were ANNOYING because we kept requesting BTS music "too much".

I think the fandom is easily misunderstood. The majority of the fandom is open and welcoming. They only get defensive when addressing active hate campaigns. Every fandom has its extremes and when a fandom is as large as Army the extremes are going to be proportionately larger. I am always happy to see people giving them a fair listen. I agree with other comments that Army comes in when BTS resonates or individual members resonate. Music is a personal thing and therefore reactions to it will be personal as well.

Also it was reported that the whe Board had to agree those contracts, thus we know what inside is smth unprecedented in kpop or even west music business

58:42 they already signed their third contract with BigHit. The new contract starts in 2025. On another note regarding contracts. The usual practice from k-stars is to wait until/just before their contract expires for new negotiations to take place. Leaving fans unsure of the groups future/disbandment/are members leaving etc. eg colourcolour group and others... BTS deciding to re-sign 2 years in advance of their contract, if I remember correctly, was something unheard of at that time. 1st contract: 2013-2018 (5 years) 2nd contract: 2018-2025 3rd contract: 2025-2032

It was such a pleasure to listen to your discovery/rediscovery of our favorite seven. I myself entered the fandom in may 2019, because I saw their concert at Wembley on KZbin and it pushed me to search for their MVs, and then I fell down the rabbithole. I had listened to Kpop before, but had never really engaged fully in following a group, and I don't know if I will ever do it again with another one. But they will allways stay in my playlists, and I am IMPATIENT to see all there is yet to come. I will try and see what other content you'll put out. In any case BRAVO and good continuation. Hi, I have enjoyed your journey. I am a 73vyr old retired, single woman. I found BTS in the Fall of 2020, early covid. Since elementary school in the late 1950s, I have followed popular music. I was around rap and hip hop but not a huge fan but when lyrics and videos seemed to be primarily celebrating drug use and misogyny, I decided it was nit for me. In 2020 I was aware of BTS but had not sought out their music. I saw Black Swan on KZbin and that set me on my BTS journey. I felt a pang of anger when you saud you did not like BTS because if Dynamite, Butter and Permission to Dance. It passed me off because I feel BTS & their management felt it was the only way the US market would embrace them. It worked, in a way, but probably 75% of Western reactors denigrate and dismiss them because of it. The US music industry is still fighting BTS & KPop in general. I have Sirius radio. They break genres of music into multiple subsets but can't have even 1 KPop channel? Right.... When JK came out with Golden, it was clearly a wonderfully produced and performed album. JK saud hecwanted to be the pop star. All the sings are in English. Yet, too many Western entertainment writers acknowledged the production but basically were dismissive. Bottom line. It is all about $$$$ The Western music industry wants all the money.
@AudioAddictionmedia6 ай бұрын
We appreciate you tuning in for the journey! I just want to make it clear however, we didn't say anything about not liking BTS or any of their US targeted songs, I believe we were very positive on those songs and understand their place in not only BTS' discography but in the music industry as a whole. -Alex

I'm trying to get two friends to go to the Drum Corps International finals in Indy in August. Tickets are SO expensive, though...lol ($169 for the best seats, and there aren't all that many of those left). DCI is amazing, and I felt everything Therese was saying about how amazing including the Blue Devils in this video was. C.R.A.Z.Y. I don't disagree about them adding outside producers in the past few years (and even that it had some effect on the music), but honestly the members were as involved, if not more intimately involved (at least beyond the music), in BE than in anything else they've ever done. I think the difference these past few years is that they were, as Yoongi explained, basically flying by the seat of their pants ever since MOTS: 7 was canceled. Their ability to plan ahead and plan deeply as they usually do was completely destroyed by the pandemic; they literally had no plans in place from March 2020-June 2022 - those two years weren't supposed to happen they way they did at all. Once the MOTS:7 tour ended, SUGA and Jin were meant to join the military...and what they're doing now with solo projects and military service was supposed to start - so for those two years they were making things up as they went along. I think that's more what the difference was in their music than anything else. I say that in part because all of the solo projects have been clearly well-planned and specific to each member's taste in music, and a lot of that has included outside producers. I think the anthology AND the three new songs on the anthology *were* planned...and therefore got their usual deep focus, planning, etc., etc.
@OT7_DopeOldARMY6 ай бұрын
I just want to say that I have thoroughly enjoyed this entire series. Therese, you KILLED IT as moderator/guide for this journey. Thank you for all the time you spent. It was amazing. And Brandon, V got me first (he appealed to the mother in me, with his innocence and cuteness)...and j-hope jumped right in not long after because of his professionalism, his love for his members, and the way he expresses himself with his whole entire body (and soul). I am a proud V-hope bias! About buying their music - buying their music is what allows them not to care about charts. Popularity in the music industry is very, very fleeting. If we don't buy it, then they will have to worry about charts and popularity. It's as simple as that.
@AudioAddictionmedia6 ай бұрын
DCI fandom unite!! and yeah I get what you're saying about the difference between now and the past, I'm hoping they continue their very involved era planning when they come back to us as 7, even if it takes a little longer than their older comeback schedules! The thought and time should be taken to keep their momentum going, i think. gosh they're so cool -therese

Radio stations don't HAVE to play songs you request, but they can if they "see it fit". I've tried requesting songs myself that never got played. as for my source: my observations and experience? aka, not a real source obviously. Different places and local stations have different practices, I'm just recounting what I noticed at the time. I think there's very much still a transactional relationship between radio stations and music labels that doesn't go unnoticed -therese

Big hit/Hybe is actually painfully innocent about how dirty, vicious, as well as racist, the US music industry really is.
