quick callout that if you hear anything you disagree with or want to correct, please do! i genuinely want to provide the most clear information of bts to anyone who is curious. As such, a couple of self-corrections as I'm monitoring: - big shoutout to reddit user baepsayed, they have an amazing thread on pre-debut bts www.reddit.com/r/bangtan/s/RQot3RknJ2 - on RM's rap i dont feel like i did justice for how far he's come as a singer, he obviously put a lot of work into his voice because it sounds amazing - on j-hope's rap, while he's talked about being the least experienced rapper, he's worked extremely hard on creating his own style and it shows! - I also forgot to mention that the studio version of Paldogangsan actually has all seven members in it! I meant to include the 2011 version with just the rap line but didn't have time to add the translated subtitles in a video I could put on the playlist. so lazily I added a lyric video that only shows the three of them. I apologize, I think that was the wrong choice in hindsight. but we will continue showcasing the seven members throughout the month! This is one of the most interesting songs BTS has put out so I recommend checking out this video for more context: kzbin.info/www/bejne/omWbq4hnnZVjoNksi=fqxTb5QST3IF0DdD

Keep reacting to more of the rap line both as a group and as solos there are way too many masterpieces they haven't seen yet. For the vocal line you have to show them these: Singularity, Slow dancing, Serendipity, Set me free pt. 2, Still with you, Standing next to you, The astronaut, House of cards, and The truth untold

i think it is important to talk about bts’s struggles specifically concerning their career bc it really gives context to their music and choices. bighit being a small company, bts being bullied heavily by k-pop fans and the media from debut even til this day, and them not having many opportunities for multiple years post debut is the basis and lyrical focus of 2/3 of the rapline’s first solo mixtapes. these things forced them to make different music, career choices, and value different things than other idols. i don’t think their “underdog story” can be separated from them. thanks for checking out bts!!

I take an expansive view because there are just so many layers/aspects to bts that it’s entirely possible to appreciate them without necessarily knowing the underdog story. For a more complete/deeper understanding though, of course it’s a critical piece. It’s a long journey to more fully understand their story (there’s so much of it!) and we all take different routes to get there. ☺️

@stefyflor25 ай бұрын
39:55 BTS did not rise to fame early. Quite the opposite. They had to be two years into their career just to win a music show award. And then be accused by fans of the big three companies that they bought their own albums cause they could not believe an 'unimportant' group from a small company was selling well. They were taken to court for this. And won. They were constant in their growth, they grew bit by bit until they became a problem for the big Kpop companies in 2016 and then a problem for the American music industry by 2018. Their fame can only seem sudden to someone who assumes they debuted in 2018, 2019. You assume the fact that they just were seemingly 'out of nowhere' unavoidable by 2018, 2019 in the music scene that their rise to fame was quick. That is not the case. They had been continuously gaining fans since debut, in 2013. By 2015, they were in direct competition with the big 3 Kpop companies' groups. But media in Korea is heavily biased towards the big 3 Kpop companies (SM, JYP and YG) because they own them. Even nowadays, with how BTS is considered Korea's biggest act, with the economic impact they bring to their country, they are still not supported by the media. Because BTS comes from an independent label and all their support has come from their fans. They never needed the media or the Kpop industry. And they resent that because they can't make money off them. The same is with the American music industry. They are not singed to any American music label and instead only have a distribution deal with UMG. The American music industry hates that and have been putting roadblocks in their path from the beginning. Their history is very important to understanding their music. Their hardships shows the type of artist they are and the type of corrupt industry they managed to survive within and then leave completely in the dust. (if radio which is basically pay for play would not count on the billboard charts, BTS would take all those no 1's, all the time). Some of these songs are like diary entries, an understanding about the artist's circumstance is needed in order to try and comprehend where they're coming from. Their music is good, well produced. It will sound good, no matter what. But I think the lyricism and context elevates a song and it's a show of respect to try and understand an artist's mindset when writing their music.
@AudioAddictionmedia5 ай бұрын
thank you so much for all of the info! you're absolutely right, "early" wasn't the right word to use since they had quite the organic growth. I more wanted to emphasize the quick jump to fame in terms of the global music industry, as it was told in Beyond the Story: they went from being nichely popular to being a household name (at least in America) and the members themselves talked about how they felt shocked at the reception, they were working so hard they felt like they never saw it coming. I think from different perspectives it could seem a very short time (like for locals/the gp) but from fans like us it was recognition that was almost overdue. Mentioning micro celebrities isn't an accurate comparison I realize, at the time I thought it was relevant to what we see more now but I admit that wasn't a great explanation. they've definitely come a long way and we'll talk more about their history when we get into the ot7 tracks on June 13th! I hope you can make it to the chat and help keep us on the right track, seriously it's much appreciated 🙏🏽 -Therese

In terms of solo work, the rap line was doing solo work and solo collabs from the beginning. RM and Suga has the most collabs with other artists, but so did j-hope, even before the debut of BTS, and continuing afterwards. Their solo albums started coming out in 2015, with RM's self-titled RM, then Suga/AgustD's AgustD in 2016, then RM's Mono and j-hopes Hope world in 2018, Suga's D-2 in 2020. Although they are titled as "Mixtapes" they are all really just self-produced solo albums that they released for free on SoundCloud. After those first 5 albums, their solo releases were in the Chapter 2 Era, starting with Jack in the Box and Indigo in 2022.

He really does ride the beat. His flow is crazy, and his great singing voice lends even more to his more melodic style. Seconding everyone else saying Brandon should check out lollapalooza! Because if you're not Korean you don't know it's so much dialect in their verses that if you're Korean but not from the parts it's hard to understand and then RM who is from just outside of Seoul never had the dialects like most of the others. Their lyric's have always had swearing (cursing) in it right from the beginning and there was a interesting conversation where Suga(aka Agust D) says I would use more English swearing if I was as good at English as RM.

Different takes and interpretations of the same information can’t always be construed as “misinformation”. It is a very presumptuous position to take based on a false belief that if you disagree with someone the other person must be wrong, and that there is only one way of looking at things. This strange attitude permeates kpop fandoms and kpop conversations. Differences are supposed to be opportunities for bigger discussions to enrich all. In kpop it becomes a battle of right and wrong as if we live in fairy land. It is frustrating.
@ruchimaurya66295 ай бұрын
@HailToTheMeep I don't get it. Why are you suddenly attacking? when my intention was just to tell them the correct information as I'm also aware that they might not know everything. That's it, and it has nothing to do with you. damn why r you so defensive upon a comment. Please calm down. every comment is not written with a malicious intention. Try reading between the lines next time before attaching someone.
@HailToTheMeep5 ай бұрын
@@ruchimaurya6629 "Misinformation" is a very strong word. It implies a level of malicious intention within the context of online conversations in the 2020s. You also use the word "correct information" that you will try to provide next time. As you can see, they sourced their information from Beyond The Story, that's the BTS book filled with members direct quotes. I don't mean to attack. But I am being honest and direct because this is the internet, and you are a stranger to me. So I only have the words you typed here to go by. I don't know if English is your first language or not. It is my second language but I grew up with it and it is my main language of communication right now. Perhaps this might be an input for you. But whether you want to take it or not, that is up to you. If I can get this impression, many others would too.
@ruchimaurya66295 ай бұрын
@HailToTheMeep I still don't get it. Why are you stretching this matter and trying to justify your point. I have already read beyond the story, and im an army for 10 years now, and with "misinformation," I meant that some information which they said were incorrect that's all and I believe they might have gone through other sources as well.As the book doesn't contain all the information regarding bts for all the stuff you have to refer to interviews, lives etc. I don't want to drag this stupid conversation because I don't rely upon the translations or any other English sources for any information as I'm fluent in Korean. And I'm speaking about the incorrect information as I have consumed bts's content gradually for the past 10 years, not in a one go to mix and match information. and I wrote this comment in order to tell them that can help them with more correct information and not for you to drag me like this. This whole use of a word misinformation this, and that seems so stupid to me because this is just a comment section, not a court of law where we have to interpret each and every word. so chill, please. I have already said that I will join their live to provide them with correct information, so I don't see the point for discussion anyways where you have jumped in this conversation to accuse me of trying to hate on them when I really like their content which I have repeatedly written in my 1st post as well. At this point, you are just twisting the narrative and painting me like as a hater, which I don't think there is a need of. Lastly, I hope we can end this conversation here, like mature adults.

J Hope came to BTS via his roots in Hip Hop via street dancing in fact he was the youngest member of the Street Crew Neuron. He listened to RM, Suga and their friends Battle Rapping and wanted to join in so he had a chat with Suga who gave him some pointers helped him out and he eventually starting joining in. That's how he learnt to write his own Raps and Rap.

Alex was right, RM-Lost n RPWP album was made with a group of producers together, like a song camp. They wanted to showcase RM's contradictory personality with this album. And RM said he received many songs for this album n co-written some. He realised how fun it is to make songs together with other people instead of doing everything all by himself.

In Daechwita, both the king and the peasant have a scar. The scar on old Agust D is fresh, because his anger and pain was fresh. The new Agust D is partially healed, but not all the way yet. It's only in Haegum that anti-establishment Agust D is without a scar.

Hey guys, I really enjoyed this video! 3hrs??? The time surprisingly flew 😅 I have two recommendations re: RM, and just for your viewing and listening pleasure! Like, just to enhance your listening experience, no pressure on filming a reaction: 1. Listen to his album Right Place, Wrong Person from Track1 to Track11, in order. "LOST!" on its own can be very confusing when watched and listened to on its own. BUT, TRUST ME!! Listening to it with the entire album makes it make so much sense!! 2. Joon's mini-concert! "RM Live In Seoul" is such a treat, he performs the songs from his album Indigo, and many of the featuring artists performed with him too.

YouthfulEagle: took “Nanjooning to a whole new level. Ha! Best and truest comment in the chat 💀 RM’s Indigo Album overview is a great watch! I always love how he goes over his music and thought process of every song! BTW - in regards to BTS and the whole “pave the way” bit: didn’t BTS create both Weverse and Vlive social platforms? Hybe sold off Vlive but it’s still one of the biggest platforms for Kpop and many many global artists. …same with Weverse.

hahaha yes, I love RM's work. but actually even though Vlive was bought by Hybe, it was originally created by Naver. I'm always curious if that was in response to Twitch or other live streaming platforms that might not have been available in Korea? I'm not sure but I really miss Vlive 🥲 -therese

These 3 rappers of BTS made me like hip-hop and rap. I hated those genres. I couldn't understand how simplistic rhyming like time, crime chime, mime, etc.. It sounded like children in elementary school poetry assignments. That was when I first heard them I hated original American rappers rhyming to a already established and popular beat, they couldn't sing and just spoke words, they couldn't play an instrument, they were talentless. It wasn't until BTS and how they incorporate the 3 rappers into each song. You expect it. Now BTS song seems incomplete without the rappers. I still won't buy rappers or hip-hop artists, I WILL listen to these 3, though. BTS are 7 talented individuals who are solo artists on their own, but when you put them all together, you get the supergroup BTS! It's like watching the origin movies of the Marvel Universe super heroes, and when they get together, it's like Avengers Assemble! Not EVERYONE will like EVERY BTS song, but there IS a BTS song for EVERYONE!
