you should really look up and see what the song is about, its about a real life tragedy. "“Spring Day” came out three years after the sinking of the Sewol ferry, a disaster in which an improperly inspected, overloaded, and unbalanced ferry capsized on an overnight journey. The ship had been loaded with twice the legal limit of cargo on its decks, and the ship’s crew had lied about the boat’s total weight. 304 passengers, the majority of them high school students on the way to a sight-seeing field trip, drowned, as they had been ordered to stay in their cabins until it was too late." Even more upsetting telling the kids not to leave their room the crew abandon ship...

It's worst after watching rotten mango discuss this tragedy. As a mom, I couldn't imagine how much it hurt to know my children were abandoned by those responsible for them. 😢

There’s so much symbolism and details in this video that are nods to the Sewol ferry tragedy. The best explanation I’ve found is by Italian Army. It’s a lot. A lot a lot. Grab your tissues a lot.

Hello Pat. This song is The Queen of BTS’s discography. To understand this song/video, I recommend you watch the explanation video done by Italian ARMY. It’s so well done , and so worth watching it. Warning…..you will never , ever see , nor hear , this song the same way after getting all that info. Please take the time to react to it. Thank you.

Spring day is such an amazing, heartfelt, iconic, Incredible, emotional song. Like, it hits. And that choreo?? Perfect. You can feel the emotional turmoil of the song meaning with the movements, the sadness the intensity, the angryness and hope. It is just remarkable. One of their Best songs and choreos. It is still on the charts after years for a reason.

Others have commented on the real-life tragedy. Another thing to point out is "Omelas" - that's from a short story "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas" by Ursula K. Le Guin. In the story, Omelas has a perfect society and perfect life and happiness, with the exchange of one child who is is imprisoned and suffers unimaginable pain and torture. Some live with it for the good of everyone else, and some cannot live with it and leave. Make of that what you will!

Hearing the 1st note brings me to tears. The Sewol Ferry capsized in 2014 and 250 high school sophomores drowned. Parents could even see the ferry and were screaming but the Coast Guard wouldn't let all the boats that showed up to help near it. Students that lived experienced survivors guilt. They even experienced anger towards their friends who left them behind. Suitcases of clothes washed ashore. The mv represents that with all the clothes in the laundry and when they're atop the mountain of clothing. The flame they stare at shows a belief that you can see your loved ones for a moment in the flame. Jin at the bottom of the staircase represents a survivor watching all his friends who lost their lives leave him feeling alone. Jungkook at the merry-go-round with all the yellow ribbons and the heading "You Never Walk Alone". They don't understand why they survived and just want to be reunited with their friends which feels very distant. Watch it many times because until you know what it's about you can't pick out all the symbolism. There's a video which shows what the families endured knowing more children could have been saved. It shows parents covering the street with all the children's shoes. They protested the government who weren't even prosecuting the captain and crew that abandoned the sinking ship. I suggest you watch the true story of the disaster instead of the explanation of the video. Other passengers drowned as well and some remains were never recovered. Heartbreaking. They solemn mood BTS carries throughout the mv and dance shows their respect to everyone involved.

The shoes on the tree are a symbol of remembrance of the children who died on the cruise ship, in this case. As in other cases - ribbons on trees, locks on bridges, etc.

I can't listen to Spring Day without crying. The guys have said the song is about loss and grief but everyone agrees the video is about Sewol. The other comments are absolutely right, do yourself a favor and watch the explanation by Italian Army. No need to put on captions they're integrated. 💜

This song is so powerful; sad and yet uplifting at the same time. The MV is very symbolic, and as others have said, is an unofficial tribute to the Sewol ferry tragedy. I'll add my recommendation to watch an explanation video if you really want understand the video, and the significance of the shoes at the end. As you saw in the Tiny Desk Concert, BTS sings this song to offer encouragement in the face of overwhelming sadness or difficulty. While the song has never left the charts (ever), it surged back toward the top immediately after the last four members enlisted. The situation is hard, but we will get through it. Spring will come. 💜

Spring Day is a song about the grief of separation from friends and family, and lost and broken relationships. RM began writing it while sitting in a park in Seoul in Autumn, watching leaves fall and thinking about the family and friends he’d left behind in his home town in order to make his way in music. Suga wrote from the same place as his song ‘Dear My Friend’, a painful message to a close friend destroyed by drugs and prison. The result is a universal meditation on loss. The video is something different and much more specific. They couldn’t acknowledge it at the time as artists were being blacklisted for speaking out but it is packed with references to a massive national tragedy and scandal. It was a risk to release the music video in early 2017 and it became symbolic for a movement which eventually led to the toppling of a corrupt government and prosecution for the then president and other officials.

The video for Spring Day gives me chills every time. The moment where Jungkook runs for the train, but then it blows past--with another "him" onboard. A visual representation of his soul becoming separated from his body. And then he closes his eyes, and the train goes through a tunnel, which we all know in media, symbolizes a transition, or a journey to... elsewhere. Such a subtle but heartbreaking way to portray passing. Also, the scene of Jin looking up at the other members as they climb the stairs, but he can't move or follow them upward. He just passively stands and watches them go through the "camera lens" of his fingers, as they climb upwards and leave him behind. Just like those who perished in the tragedy--they will remain forever in that moment, while the survivors will grow up and move on. And of course Jimin with the washed-up shoes... 😭😭😭

there are two explanation videos for this mv, both are very good - one is much more in depth. although bts have not said it directly it is obvious the video is a very sad very heavy tribute to a real life tragedy that occurred in s korea during the time bts members were only slightly older than the victims. it can be quite traumatizing to learn so you can decide at your own discretion if you watch it in your own time. the song itself was not the tribute - only the video. namjoon stated he wrote it to describe the emotion and feeling and longing one experiences when really missing someone. as you can imagine it has become an important song to convey the feeling between bts and army when we are apart. for example during the pandemic and right now during their enlistment.

As for the shoes, there are many many theories, but my personal take is that in some cultures this represents someone who has passed away. You throw their shoes up into a tree, and when their spirit returns it can walk above ground, closer to heaven. In an mv for a song about missing someone, I think it fits quite well (even if the song itself isn't necessarily about missing someone who has passed away, it could also be about someone you simply miss a lot.) But like I said there are many theories, and the boys have confirmed very little themselves. Art is up to the viewer to interpret in the end :)

Spring Day choreo is gorgeous! Probably in my top three BTS choreos of all time.. that footwork on the chorus??? 🔥🔥🔥 Since it's not featured in the video, I feel like a lot of ARMY doesn't even know it exists. Oh btw, there's a silly version of the dance practice if you haven't seen it. I HIGHLY recommend, lol. V and Jin especially ham it up.

Spring Day is the QUEEN & Yesss please more BTS songs! Tae has the widest vocal range of all of the members so he definitely get pretty high and low in several songs (as you’ve seen with Dynamite, Butter, Stigma, and now Spring Day) I definitely recommend Young Forever, I’m Fine, Let Me Know, Hold Me Tight, 134340, Butterfly, Answer: Love Myself, and Mikrokosmos which are all great songs that show off Tae’s vocals (& BTS’s amazing lyrics and talent of course)💜💜

The song, the meaning is wonderful ... Spring Day is "The Queen" for numerous reasons. But for the first time watching this dance practice, the choreo added so much to the power of the song. Without focusing on any one member; the way they move together sometimes in opposite pairs, some times one single, or all together ... they move so well, to be expected of BTS truthfully! Kudos to the choreographer(s) for this vision and understanding the flow and "human condition" of which this song speaks. Of course, kudos to Our7 who perform the choreography beautifully. I never would have noticed it had I not viewed it on a small(er) screen without camera close-ups and right/left angles, etc. that TV shows record for whatever reason🤷🏾. Thank you, Pat, for this reaction and a refreshed perspective. 💜 #June2025SoonCome #ApoBangpo #OT7 #Bangtan4Life

This song symbolizes a great tragedy. This song was written while thinking of the Sewol Ferry that took hundreds of lives. In particular, the choreography of this song expresses it better. In this choreography, Jimin represents the victims who lost their lives in the Sewol Ferry. At the beginning of the song, Jimin extends his hand toward us, but is swept away by the waves created by the members. In the second half, V expresses a survivor who survived the Sewol ferry and feels guilty and misses the victims. As he feels lonely, Jin, another victim, comes out from inside the members symbolizing the ship and hugs V, a survivor, to soothe him. And at the end, Jimin and Jin, who are also victims, meet through the waves and hug each other, ending in a greeting song.

The explanation from bulletproof vibes channel is a lovely work of art in itself. It explains visual symbols and cultural references (yellow ribbons, shoes hanging from a tree), and shows how Spring Day connects to at least 4 other works of art: a movie, an art installation, a fairy tale, and a short story, as well as referencing the Sewol ferry disaster. 1.6 million views. See reply for link. Also, the laundromat in the mv for Permission to Dance is a call-back to the laundromat in Spring Day. In the mv for Yet to Come, you can see the merry-go-round, Jimin picking up the shoes, the passenger train, Hobi's outfit, Tae making a photo viewfinder with his fingers, and the last scene, where they all sit in the bus (ref. to their debut song No More Dream) in the same places they are sitting in the Spring Day train. 💜
