Maybe the translation was a little off but they didn’t mean that the older boys had an issue with Namjoon being the leader, they never had. The “issue” was that sometimes he has to make certain calls and his opinion may be different from the older members and that may cause disagreement. In korean culture it’s usually the older person who makes these calls, so it can be difficult to not feel like he is stepping over their “rights” to decide and have the last word. But as he said, they always talk it out and find an agreement and respect each other a lot

now I see why during KBS interview he added about 'trust and respect' as their key of success teamwork all these years. There is a misunderstanding They never wanted another leader. Nor Suga and surely not Jin wanted the role. It was always going to be RM. They built BTS around him. He was chosen from the begining. They say it time and time again. All of them.

I don’t think the older members feel that way much anymore. There was probably a power struggle in the beginning but they all say that no one in the group would do a better job than RM and that they’re glad he was made leader. The older members didn’t really have a problem with rm being the leader. But in Korean culture age is really important so maybe they felt a little uncomfortable with someone younger leading them in the beginning. But now they all say that rm is such a good leader. Apparently in their early days Yoongi and Namjoon clashed a lot. Namjoon was "infamous" in the Korean underground rap scene, so even before they met, Yoongi knew of him. Then, when they became a team, they were in the first line up, the only two from the original line-up that still are in BTS. They've lived together for 10 years now and are best friends, but in the beginning, there were lots of conflicts. Ten years ago, they were 16 and 17, respectively, so tensions were high. Luckily, they found a way to overcome their differences, which in hindsight, to them, feels more like bickering. They were stressed and scared before debut, so it's understandable that not everything was smooth sailing back then. But, thanks to Namjoon and Bang PD, the boys figured out a way to turn their differences into a strength and find ways to keep the group communicating. It's a testament to how good of a leader Joon is, that BTS even came into our lives and is now on top of the world. Happy Namjoon Day DT!

Actually RM was the only one from the original line up for bts. Suga came later. Namjoon was the maknae of that group. Untill everyone left.

The guys does not have an issue about RM being the leader, he's saying that sometimes the older members says something if they feel uncomfortable w/ how Namjoon deal w/ them or w/ certain situations that the older ones usually has the authority to decide. They do not usually impose their authority as a hyung, specially Jin, but since it's really in the culture of Koreans that the younger one needs to be respectful to the older person and listen to them, the disagreement happens but not that they have an issue with him being a leader. Namjoon is the perfect leader. And they always resolve the problem and talk it out so it works.

Namjoon is very polite and know how to behave and communicate to others. Despite being a leader, he always respect to Jin as an older brother, called him "Hyung nim" and use honorific speech. And he appreciate and guide the maknae line, espescially Jungkook and V. He make the group united and reach same goal with their individual uniqueness. He is true leader.

It also helps that Jin, the oldest, never ever used his age to force his opinion upon them, rather he allows them to joke disrespectfully about him, hence the members respect him even more, being the chilled and laidback hyung. He doesn't even listen to the boss (and company), let alone expecting his younger members to listen to him.

That speech where the members were teary-eyed was RM remembering the stressful/difficult times BTS had to go through, so he wasn’t like aiming to be impressive or anything. When BTS was going through that, I believe army was going through it with them too. If you pay attention, he held himself back from crying himself. Anyway, I’m sure this full speech is on YT. It’s the final concert of the Wings era I believe. It’s kind of like a goodbye to that and them focusing on the beginning of the Love Yourself era. If I understood the timing correctly.

Kim Namjoon is the first member I connected to. His poise and humility drew me in. As a leader he is masterclass. Same for me. The first time I heard about BTS was Boy in Luv in 2014, but because I don't like rap, they didn't really appeal to me (this was before they started doing all sorts of genres of music). Some time later, I was watching Problematic Men for Suho (back then, EXO songs were more my style) when I saw RM, and he really caught my attention. After that I grew to understand them as a group, and learn and love them all. Now I actually appreciate rap and hip-hop because of them, although I still don't like it in general. I'm a true OT7, but RM has always been that little bit extra special.

In my opinion, the most interesting from Namjon is his humility, he is the leader of BTS, he has 148 CI, he is very handsome and his rap kill it but he looks like a very simple boy, he puts himself in second place (except when the team needs to talk in english) and he always is very proud of the sucesses of the other members. I remember in the party of 7 years when he told "I am very happy because in spite of the sucesses of the members out of BTS, they want to continue in BTS" (we know he was talking about Suga and Daechwita because We can see the suga's face in this moment) This things makes RM a very great person. I love him.

they never really had a problem with namjoon being the leader, they have praised him for his leadership skills from the start. as a leader, he has to give out certain criticisms etc and they might have felt that he wasn't being considerate of their age dynamic. for a lot of asians/koreans of course, age hierarchy is a big thing. they respect and love joon a lot, all of the members baby him outside of work haha. at work namjoon is their leader but outside of work they are namjoon's leaders and look out for him a lot.

The members did not have an issue with RM being the leader they wanted him to be the leader because they thought he was best fit buttttt in Korea there is the culture of not being disrespectful to those older than you and so most of the time those older make certain decisions but RM was saying that sometimes it can be difficult to try and and balance leadership without trying to seem rude to those older than him or undermine their authority etc. It’s common for the oldest member in a kpop group to be the leader since they can be more authoritative to those younger since those younger have to be polite to those older, but sometimes it’s not whose older it’s who’s best fit. 👍🏼

I forgot the word but in Korea is very important the age and be respectful to your olders, even if they are 1 or 2 years older it's a big deal, even months. So the problem was no him being the leader but the way he might talk to the older members (Jin, Yoongi and Hobi) he being younger. Let's put it in this way, if I'm doing something and a teen come to me and said "You're wrong" or I feel like him/her being bossy to me I would feel kinda mad about it. So I just can imagine the older members being like "ok I got it but remember I'm the older so you should be conscious of how you're talking to me" It probably wasn't eassy for Namjoon, but I thing those talks it's what made them so close now, plus this shows was years ago so.

The boys fight a lit. They are 7 different personalities and they pive under the same roof. But they are doing well forvthey talk together whenever theres conflict. RM is the middle child in this group of 7, with Jin, Suga, Hobi older than him. Given the age dynamics in Korean culture, conflicts are bound to happen. RM is also not big on displays of affection but you can see the look in his eyes how much he adores his bros

They can say that we are older so do you have to go that far, that doesnt mean that they object to him as a leader I think thats what makes them better than groups with elders as leader, cuz then only one person is in power.. here he has to be respectful towards them and they in return have to listen to his views, balancing out egos

I think that there was sometimes an odd bumping of heads between him and the 3 oldest, probably in the beginning maybe. He may be the leader but he doesn't have the same authority status as the other 3 in particular Jin. I think that occasionally they may have a strong opinion that they want to make sure is conveyed or considered. But they've been doing this a long time and would have ironed out the majority of creases in their system and hierarchy. They want and respect him as their leader. They say that all the time. I think that's genuine.

there was no issue with him being the leader in the beginning. It is more a seniority thing whereby in some respects the oldest culturally makes the call. In practice this responsibility can sometimes overlap with the leader so these are areas they have had to feel out and address as they go along.
