Hi Luke ! So, RM and Suga’s parents were the ones that didn’t want their kids choosing music. They wanted them to study hard and become some kind of professional, so they really were adamant about it. I believe RM’s mom broke his computer because he was writing lyrics on it, and Suga’s parents were not supportive whatsoever . He said it in this clip that he starved many a night to pursue his dream. So yeah, the school system in Korea is harsh, but these parents believed a music career was even harder. This video makes you realize how important ARMY was for them back then, and continues to be today. They know this . We know this. And we are growing exponentially. Why? Because they deserve everything and more ! I truly believe ARMY isn’t just a fandom. I believe ARMY is a way of life, and above all ,a family. A family that is ready to embrace every race, gender, language, etc…and is present when we need it. A lot of people suffer from loneliness, and other stuff, and I’ve noticed through KZbin ( and other social platforms ) , that by communicating with other ARMIES, life becomes less lonely for them, and real friendships are formed ,because we all have the love for BTS in common. That is priceless! To RM, Jin,Suga,J-Hope,Jimin, V, and Jungkook, I want to say THANK YOU GENTLEMEN! Thank you for helping ARMY with your music, your lyrics, your messages, your humbleness, with your laughter, and yes, absolutely thank you for your HARD WORK . We are still behind you , even after all these years! To you BTS, and my fellow Armies, BORAHAE ! 💜🇨🇦

"You've worked hard" is the perfect sentence to describe a dark side of the korean culture. The work effort in east-asian countries are in general like that. It should motivate you to continue better yourself. So yeah, it's a culture thing. Just like the school system in South Korea. Almost everything is based on how much you are working, learning and improving yourself. It's definitely pressuring.
@OrualMuse
@OrualMuse 2 жыл бұрын
As a friend once said "yes, it is a compliment but compliments could also put pressure on you". We used to work together, he is asian btw and he used to say "thank you for your hard work" but he didnt use it everytime, only when we spent an insane amount of hours trying to get the best results or when we faced critical problems and we managed. I didnt feel it as a pressure but as a recognition but when he didnt say that words i was like "oh... we didnt do well today?"😁 But i clearly remember one French lady saying to him "you dont need to thank them, they are paid for this" and he just look at her and replied "you are wrong, we are paid to do the job not for the passion we put on that". Then i thought that i prefer to work with him than with her, even if that meant to work more hours.

When they say "you've worked hard" it's like saying good job to them. It's similar to "fighting!" Too, like good luck etc to the best of my knowledge 💜 it is annoying to see them being called girls for wearing makeup, , but also annoying that people like using being compared to a girl as an insult like being a girl is somehow "less" . We need to stop assigning genders to things like fashion etc. Don't worry about getting emotional. Men need to know it's ok to show their feelings. It's ok to cry 💜💜💜 I'm 49, I got my kids into BTS, but almost every friend I try to talk to about BTS looks at me like I'm too old for it, or I'm crazy. And some friends just openly mock me or act tell me I'm a cougar for like them just because they're young and attractive. And most won't even listen when I try to explain why they're so great. It's depressing. But I proudly rock that merch and show my pride in them no matter what. You should see all the BTS/kpop stickers on my car. I'm not scared to show the world what I love, it's just too bad the world is full of judgemental xenophobic ignorant asses. 🤬and you're right you're only here once. My husband died Jan 1 of this year, and I lost a lot of my fears (cause the worst fear happened making all other fears pale in comparison) and I started just being me 100% like it or hate it idc. I don't have anyone to answer to anymore , meaning the only person whose opinion mattered, aside from my kids, died. Now I'm just me and I do what I want, dress as I want, etc. I ran out of fucks to give with regards to what people think the day he died. 💜

I am so sorry for your loss ARMY. I relate to much of what you said. People can't understand that it is the love of BTS as people that makes us such dedicated fans. I am in my 60s and so tired of people insinuating that I love BTS because they are attractive young men...give me a break,..lol. They could be 60 year old fat men and I would love them just as much...they are talented, caring, good humans who use their talents for good...I couldn't be prouder to be a fan. It's really hard to explain to people who aren't fans...it's a process of getting to know and love them and many people are too closed minded to get to know anything about them (besides the 3 english pop songs they have heard which make them believe they know what BTS is all about). Borahae and I hope you continue to find strength from BTS moving forward.

On the flip side, when they laugh - I laugh too. (Gotta take the bad with the good, I guess.) But, it still stabs me in the gut when I see them upset. Well, you understand... I know you do. Your heart is *HUGE* - and your emotions run deep!! *NEVER* be afraid of showing your tears!! This is possibly because you were AT LEAST aware of them through music and variety shows if not Fans of their Groups and or Solo projects but saying xy saddest suicide (in Kpop or everywhere) is kinda odd (if not a bit mean)....I mean I don't blame you if you weren't aware of the others some people manage to "not care". But I didn't know much of either of them back then and I still cried for all of them. Because no matter what, their members have been devasted, their families and real friends (who often happen to be Idols too) have been devasted and traumatzied and there are Idols who by now went through loosing someone that way more than once in their life and that really shouldn't be. Not to forget their real life families who love(d) them pre-debut and thought their boy or girl (soon) is going on to be happily married etc.

18:57 In that interview, they (underground rappers) basically mocked them for taking "the easy route" or "selling out" or whatever to go to the more mainstream "idol" process rather than staying underground. No matter how Suga and RM said they did it because they wanted to have their voices be heard by a wider audience and get their music out there, which wasn't happening through underground, they had selective hearing and basically used the whole interview to make fun of them and twist their words, talking about how they gave away their artistry. It's commendable that they were able to stay cool and offer classy responses. Another thing is how incredibly sexist this clip is. "Hip-hop is a manly and macho culture" Uhh? Okay? As if female rappers don't exist, first of all. And the whole "make-up" thing. First of all everyone in the media industry wear make-up, it's just a fact. From your local weatherman to your favorite actor to a singer on TV. But also, I hate how people use "being feminine" or liking "feminine things" as an insult as if it's something to be ashamed of to "lower yourself to acting like a woman" or whatever. It shouldn't be like that! That's such a toxic idea, and just perpetuates looking down on women or things women do/like. We shouldn't put labels like "feminine" or "masculine" on things in the first place, but since society does, we shouldn't look down on one over the other. Labels like crying/being emotional or makeup is feminine, etc. I hope in the future, society becomes less label-obsessed and more accepting. I think we're slowly heading in that direction which gives me hope lol.

“We will work hard/You’ve worked hard” is a cultural phrase that Koreans and Japanese use. This is a literal translation but it means, “We will do our best/Great job.” There is another phrase that they use and that’s before and after meal when people say “I'll eat well” and “I’ve eaten well,” respectively, which means, “Thank you for preparing the food” and “That was delicious,” respectively. I hope this helps.

Oh Luke, we all understand how hard this is to watch. The emotions it pulls up... The pain you feel for them; and all who are struggling. Just remember, you are not alone. There's no shame in "Letting your emotions leak out your eyes". When I saw you crying, I wanted to give you a hug, and let you know we're here for you. So a virtual hug will have to do. That's a large part of the draw of BTS. They are real. They are willing to show their true emotions. They are not afraid to be who they are... And that can include the uncomfortable parts as well. Thank you for your wise words Luke, I wish everyone felt the same. Borahae Luke 💜

This episode was literally a rollercoaster of emotions, I was smiling and crying sometimes at the same time! I started watching them for their music and then I couldn't stop because of the message, meaning and feeling behind the music they are trying to spread and for them! From their debut onwards, they have never forgotten their ARMY and always are so very thankful for everything and everyone! How can we not love them then!!?? They literally inspire me to give my best and do everything to achieve what I want every freaking day!!! 🥺😭💜💜💜 #BangtanSonyeondanForever

I’m a 15 years old army, I became a bts fan in the beginning of 2021 and they truly did change my life. They’re such humble and loving people and their talent is on a another level. It’s truly so hard to describe my love for them, I’ve shed so many tears, had so many laughs beacuse of them which I’m thankful for. I do have a hard time enjoying my life with bts but my parents are really not supportive or happy for me at all, I still remember how my dad threw away my album. But no one can stop my love for them and the happiness they give me.

Their dancing got me first. I’m amazed at how in sync they always are. Their lyrics made me ARMY. How open and honest they are, showing us so many aspects of their lives and how connected they are to ARMY is what truly puts them above the rest. Tell me someone else who has or can bring together so many people from so many counties, and really every age group, with their music and love. Yes, they had struggles and overcame a lot, but don’t we all. At least most of us. Would they be who they are if they hadn’t? Would the lyrics of their songs be so powerful and moving if everything had come easy to them? Yes, it’s sad to see all they had to go through, but I think it just makes me appreciate more who they are. It didn’t harden them. I think that’s part of what makes them so connectable. We can all see some part of ourselves in them. It makes them human. It makes them one of us. A connection is what brings true love, not idol worship. Loved the reaction. 💜💜💜

8:00 THIS right here is the entire reason that their music is SO important… it’s a very different kind of pressure w a somewhat limited amount of opportunities open to these young kids in their culture. What they’re singing about isn’t pressure against themselves… they’re message isn’t about them… they’re message is for the youth in their culture… and in effect around the world as well. They’re being beacons of hope and support for people around the world who grew with them . 💜 19:11 it’s the biggest bunch of bs and we all LOATHE this and how they were treated… what I LOVE about this though is that rm and suga never said the other guys were wrong… rm told him if he feels like that then he should feel like that… they were kind, polite, knowledgeable and understanding… let’s be real though… we know these boys got the last word and the last laugh… these moments built their character and made them who they are even more…struggles are very real and a part of life… and it’s hard to see… but the constant push back from the industry and the hip hop community in Korea.. it caused bts to be closer and stronger and bts and army to form such a real bond and “you and us against the world” feeling… and it has never stopped… it’s what makes us cry at anything they do… bc we understand what it took to get here . 💜 25:45 those tears are pure army love right there … I’m proud of you 😁keep doing you my dude

Well work hard just means they will continue to work hard and become better and better with each performance. They want to prove themselves to people. That they are just some normal boyband. They will put 100% in every performance they give. They have proved that. Look at these beautiful boys now.

The "work hard" thing is kind of like a greeting or a saying that is commonly used. It translates to "work hard" which seems strange in English because we don't say that. Many Koreans use this sentence as a greeting whenever they part. It’s a way of wishing one another prosperity and success. So by cheering for others and telling them to continue to work hard, you really wish for them to become successful. “Work hard” is the literal translation, but in reality, the meaning it conveys is more along the lines of “keep up the good work” or “good job everyone”.

Honestly I can’t get into other groups (kpop or otherwise) the way I am w Bangtan. You can tell from all the snippets of their lives that they’ve shared with us HOW GENUINE AND PASSIONATE they are. Mind you, I’m 40yo and very cynical, and I can tell very quickly when someone is being fake. So being in this Bangtan rabbit hole is like breathing in fresh air, knowing hard work is rewarded, being good people is appreciated, especially in current climate… I’m just so pleased to have Bangtan in my life and my kids too! The Rise of Bangtan series is IMO better than Netflix etc because it’s more authentic and it’s an emotional journey and story. BTS is talk about things no one would mention like the pressure on kids and tell them to just stop and find their own happiness. They’ve also faced so many hardships and understanding that is an important part of their underdog story. But from the debut the Army found a group saying things that resonated so deeply they fought hard alongside BTS uphill. FYI that criticism that RM and Suga faced continually from the underground rap community was addressed by the guys in the 4 Cyphers. In face Suga directly calls out the guy who calls them girls referring to “go home to Hawaii” where that guy is from. Every episode gets better.

I’m really pleased you decided to keep in your tears. It shows your true and raw emotion. It shows how much of a warm and empathic person you are. Didn’t help ME though, since I have seen all this and cry each time, then fighting it and I Had your tears hitting me too. Dammit. I’m so appreciative of you that you have included BTS on here and have embraced them with as much love as any ARMY that have loved them since they debuted. We are all Bulletproof. It brings me joy every single day that I hear my 7 year old son when he’s playing by himself and he’s singing BTS loudly and proudly. It makes me so proud. He is a happy boy for it. That;s what BTS make us. Without them, I wouldn’t be here today. I lost my brother 2 years ago, and I still am struggling to cope. I retreat in my head and focus on work instead, pretending it’s not real. When it hits me that he;s not just away somewhere, that he’s really gone, BTS actually are who I need to turn to to keep going. I know I’m just a tiny fish in the sea of ARMY, especially being in the UK, and they’ll never see or hear this from me, but I know how much they appreciate and love each and every one of us so it’s okay. You are part of this love too. They will be so thankful to you that you too are spreading love about them on your platform. Your own personal platform and you’re gracing them with it. You deserve just as much praise because your hard work is being shared with BTS and all the other music you react to. Thank you. Thanks for showing us your journey through your BTS discovery. Never cut the tears. We’re crying right along with you. 💜 As for the we’ll work hard thing, I’m not Korean but from what I’ve heard over the years, saying “you’re working hard” is a common expression you can say to a person as a greeting where appropriate. So I’d guess them saying “we’ll work hard!” is a similar thing. Hard work is such a large part of Korean culture, it would make sense that they’d integrate it into common expressions.

I have been Army for almost two years now, so not as long as most people here. I started this series and then got sidetracked by everything else they have going on and kept telling myself I needed to come back to it. Well, you’ve brought me back to it and I’m experiencing it in time with you. All those emotions they are feeling are so strongly shared in this series, so I’m smiling one minute and sobbing the next. It’s just so much to take in and their love for Army is astounding and powerful. So thanks for doing this series. I feel like I’m watching it with a friend. Never forget you’re awesome, Luke, or that you are having such a positive affect on Army. I think we’re here to stay. 💜

You know Luke, if you search randomly on the web you will find ARMY bumping heads in all directions but that just how protective we are with the boys, cause we've seen they been through so much shxt they don't deserve. So yes, we don't hesitate not even in a second to defend them and it will always be like this. I've been an ARMY for a long time and it's been so long since I watched this documentary for the first time, and now seeing Namjoon 9 years later repeat the same words on the Dinner, that he's afraid to disappoint us got me crying really fast lol cause we're so proud of them I forgot that he could even fear that. The thing I like most about your reactions are your eyes you know, we can feel the sincerity in them. It's very nice to welcome you to our family Luke, our Home. 💜

You love them the same reason we love. We can relate to them cause family, school, society and religion pressures us to go on a different direction that our hearts lead us. BTS thought us to reflect, deepen and love who we are, expressing to the world. No matter what. I am 51 years old Army and I suffered bullying again last year. When I was a teenager I never cared about bullying because I thought I was ok and those people were mean or weak. But at 51 for the first time I felt sorrow for myself. 🥲Can you believe it? Then BTS found me in November and made my journey to healing. It is not easy for anyone at any stage. But if we know who we are we become stronger every step of the way.😉

Thank you for your honest reaction to this. This one was definitely an emotional one and I appreciate seeing your reaction to it. Every time I see that interview with RM, Suga and those industry "experts", I get angry. I'd love to see what those so called experts think of where our boys are now. The whole "Bang! Tan! We'll work hard" thing is their team introduction (just like when they go "We're BTS!" in English). Every group has their own unique one. There's actually a really cute story that JK tells in another show about how a senior group once yelled at BTS for being noisy and how their intro was a mess so they took them aside and taught them how to make a better intro to make them look more professional. They would always take what they were taught and incorporate it to make a better impression, better show for ARMY. I love our boys and while I wish I had been there for them from the start, they really do come into your life when you need them most. Can't wait for your next reaction! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

That interview at 19:45 - will always get me. First, the fact that people were saying this to them when they were at such a young age...Second, the fact that the thing these people thought was the worst insult possible was to call someone a girl...third, to bring them on the show just to ambush them...I know you're probably nowhere near doing this, but when you get to Burn the Stage, Break the Silence, In the Soop, Bon Voyage....let's just say always bring your tissues with you!!!! And yes, RM is a master at word play of all kinds...pay close attention to his lyrics and you'll see. It will blow your mind!!

There’s nothing wrong with the tears and their early days really have a lot of emotional moments and the true journey of our boys from the beginning are part of the reason that their commitment to their message, their fight to never give up no matter what they’re faced with….. even coming to the point of talking about disbanding for their mental health….is something we always want to share with new fans and celebrate the journey …. Bc without the struggles… it’s impossible to feel the depth of an armys happiness for them to have gotten through all of it…. Together. It makes anything wrong see with them feel emotional lol and tears are beautiful and loving them def beings out those tears lol you’re a perfect example of army love 💜

It wasn't easy for them to go from that initial point to the what they accomplished now 😕 they worked really really hard they spent over 18 and even 22 hours of work a day just practicing, pursuing their studies and following their concert schedule....it was so hard for them and they were literally killing their selves by hard work in addition of all the pressure and bullying they got from haters jimin once put him self under a very strict and harsh diet (just one apple a day with all that work and practicing 😢💔)because he got bullied cause of his weight ...junkook also went under a huge pressure...the two of them even got death threats from haters and sasaeng 🥲 You know what worse than the education system in Korea? The kpop industry itself which put all those idols under a huge pressure that reaches sometimes a depressive state making idols ending their own lives like jeonghyun, sulli and Go hara may they rest in peace And it's a huge relief that our beloved bts members succeeded to overcome all those hardships and rest alive to be the superstars and the great inspiration they are now ...they're not just k-idols but they're really warriors brave ones ...that's why we love them this much ...especially my baby jimin he went through alot but he carried on so bravely
