To answer your question in your description, no, it isn't about them reaching out to their fans, although that would be beautiful. This song is based on an Italian story that took place during the 1500-1600's called "La citta di smeraldo". It's about an "ugly" man who got harassed daily because of his "grotesque" looks. To avoid this harassment he would shut himself up in a castle alone wearing his mask. The only thing that brought him comfort and joy to his life were planting flowers. One day he discovered that they have been disappearing. It turned out to be a girl who's been stealing them to make a living for herself. The man wanted to help her out, but he was afraid that she would judge him and not accept merely because of how he looked. Since he didn't want to open up to her, he specifically made a unique flower unlike no other in the world. It took many attempts, but he was finally able to produce a whole garden full of them. He wanted her to take them so she could sell them at an expensive price. The man waited and waited for the girl to come back, but she never appeared no matter how long he waited. He decided to go out and look for her wearing his mask not knowing it was too late. He eventually found out she had died. The song is simply portraying the story and the aftermath. It gives a whole new, even more moving meaning to the song, doesn't it? ;-; Thanks to the person who told me this

Squoosh ugh. Makes me love the song even more. I related it to people who are too afraid to show themselves. I actually know that story. My Italian teacher in middle school had mentioned it while giving a lesson on not to judge others for their looks. The fact that it based off of it makes me swell with pride that they’re reaching out to different cultures to find muses for their music

This song references the smeraldo flower, a fictitious flower that BTS has been associated with on more than one occasion. Similar to how different flowers can mean different things, the smeraldo means “the truth I couldn’t tell,” according to the only flower shop that claims to sell it. The lyrics of this song was a reference to “La Città di Smeraldo”, an Italian tale about a man who hides in his house because he’s afraid of showing himself. As he watches from the window, he falls in love with a woman stealing flowers from his garden to sell them. Trying to help her, he grows a special flower, the smeraldo, so that she can earn more money from it, but the woman dies before she is able to see it or meet the man.
