This song represents the boys’ inner struggles and how they’re forced to hide their true selves under a mask in order to pursue their career. To kick off the Love Yourself era, Jin tweeted a photo of himself with blue flowers and a single word: "Smeraldo" on Aug 8, 2017. This led fans to discover the Smeraldo flower, made up by Bighit that combined it with a tale from the italian folklore: Once upon a time, in an Italian village called La Città di Smeraldo, there was a man with a grotesque appearance who hid himself in a small secluded castle. He was lonely and his only joy was growing flowers in the garden. He grew to fall in love with a girl who came to his garden to pick flowers. Secretly, he learned that she was poor and sold flowers for a living. However, he could not reveal himself to the girl because he was scared she would hate his hideous appearance. Instead, he decided to make a flower that the girl could sell at an expensive price. After many attempts, he made a flower that never existed before and filled his garden with it. However, the girl never came for the flower...she died before his act of sincerity could reach her. Therefore, Smeraldo is the symbol of "전하지 못한 진심" which has been translated as "Sincerity that Couldn't be Delivered" or, for the song, "The Truth Untold".

If I'm not mistaken, the story about Smelraldo flower in the blog was created by Big Hit (the flower doesn't exist in real world 😉 ) but the story abt the introvert man does exist in Italian folklore. BH just combined the two elements ~ Smelrado and the story about this introvert man 😊. Note: Smelrado is the flowers that Jin bought for his Gf in the trailer, in BU, in Fake Love (Jin tried to protect the flowers) and extended into his Epiphany storyline. Can't wait for the Notes 2.0 coming this year!

Laili Johari yes Smelrado means emerald in Italian and its a fictional flower but it was used before probably It reference to ‘the emerald city of oz’, a sequel to the wizard of oz by American Author L.Frank Baum (I am not sure about it I read it somewhere ). btw u can see it all through the story line, in jin's awake its on the table, in the end of blood sweat and tears when jin is looking at the mirror the reflection of the flowers are the Smelrado flowers and as u mentioned jin bought it for his girl.

Actually, the one I read about (the name of the folklore) doesn't have the word Smelrado in it. This is the first time I heard about 'La Città di smeraldo'. The blog that Big Hit created also didn't mention about this folklore, it's only about the florist and the flower. I read the blog before the story changed.

I can honestly say that Namjoon (RM) writes the lyrics to almost 90% of the albums nowadays. The why their lyrics are relatable is very easy.. at least to me.. it's because more than their wordsmith talents, they're introspective and honest in what they say.

The truth Untold...it is that song...that song made me cry so hard when I heard it for the first time and again when I saw it live at Wembley stadium. When I think about their song writing the first word that comes to my mind is: authenticity. They write lyrics about their own experiences...they write from the heart. That's why they managed to connect all their songs and albums because it was a natural progression. They grew as people and that is showing in their content. At the end of the day they are people like us...okay, they have a unique job...but their feelings and what they experience in terms of growing up, internal struggles, doubts etc. is the same as it is for us. That's why they can make you feel that way. They are just trying to say...listen, you are not alone...we are going through the same things.

The genius of BTS is the fact of successfully overcoming the coherence of the melody with the lyrics and the choreography when there is one, the connection of the songs serving a storyline or a concept that brings you little by little to an existential reflection necessarily enriching and at the same time the ability to allow their listeners to appropriate the song in relation to their experience. I think that my Army comrades will tell you the story behind "The truth untold" which is magnificent with melancholy and poignant; the flower mentioned in the story inspired part of their storyline .. but you will see later that everything is connected

If you didn't know The Truth Untold was another collab they did with Steve Aoki who also did Mic Drop so this was an amazing 180 compared to the hard, in your face song that is Mic Drop. There's a story behind The Truth Untold so I'll try to give a streamlined explanation: It's a story about a man in the 1600s, I think Italy, who thought he was so ugly and hideous that all he did was hide out inside the walls of his castle growing flowers in a garden. One night he noticed a young woman sneaking into his garden to steal flowers and it made him angry. He waited again to catch her but fell asleep before she arrived and this continued on for some time. Eventually he noticed that he was looking forward to this nightly ritual and got the courage to go into the village where she lived. At this point he found out she was poor and selling his stolen flowers to try and make a living. He went back to the castle and started working to create a flower like nothing ever seen before so she could sell it for an expensive price and live better than the poverty she was in. Time went by and after many failed attempts he made this flower and grew it all throughout his garden but the woman never returned to pick them. He later found out she had died during the time he was working and the song is full of his shame, loss and regret of what could have been if he had shown himself to her earlier. It's really heartbreaking and the boys have cried more than once singing it on stage.

It's the story of a man who lived in a castle and kept to himself because he thought himself to be ugly. One day a woman came near his castle and picked his flowers. He was angry at first but eventually became curious and waited for her. He found out that she was actually selling those flowers for a living. The man fell in love but didn't want to show himself because he was "too ugly" (you know that I can't show you me, give you me..) So he decided to plant a flower that didn't exist on the planet so she could sell it at an expensive price. Eventually he manage to fill his garden with them but the women stopped coming. He then learned that she had died. That part where they sing 'but I still want you' is about him regretting not telling her his feelings all because he didn't love himself first. It fits so well with the 'Love yourself' concept.

Truth untold was RM! Jimin actually said that he's personally grateful RM wrote the lyrics, because (maybe because they're basically brothers) he actually teared up when he first sung some of the lyrics(he was speaking about the album, but I'm assuming he meant this song) RM has a special talent for getting into the vocal line's heads. You'll soon be able to tell RM's lyrics apart from Suga's apart from JHope's... They have distinct styles, but they're all poets at heart, no matter how much suga or jhope would tell you otherwise. Which isn't to say vocal line do not write lyrics! Perhaps not as much, but their solo work and songs here and there have their unique signature as well

If you want sometimes to cry because of frustration or sadness expurgated while listening BTS, it's normal. Sometimes it's like you want to fight the beat/lyrics/the painful feeling & even darkness then something in the song make you break (a fracture), accept the "wave" & slowly heal. It's how I perceive The Last & first love from Suga, Tear from rap line, the truth untold from vocal line, Fake Love from BTS OT7. In the end the purpose of their Art is MUSIC & ARTIST FOR HEALING. Their songs have a therapeutic mission at psychoanalysis therapy level. They helped me a lot to keep walking despite so many hindrances. When you turn army "you never walk alone" sounds pretty real.

In Map of the Soul: Persona, RM said he wrote almost 90% of the lyrics. If you still heaven't heard, RM is a good poet. But in their previous album, Suga and JHope participated largely on lyrics writing with RM. They write their own bars for their rap portions also. The vocal line participate a little in writing lyrics for previous albums, but they are trying to work harder in wriring lyrics for their own songs (not bts songs) which they upload on sound cloud. All the rappers' mixtapes are written by them, and they also produce and write the beats with the help of in-house big hit producers for the final output. RM worked with an american sound engineer for his Mono mixtape.

The story behind the song "The truth uhtold" actually very deep and talking about self love. The story talks about a guy who thinks he's ugly so he's hiding in the castle from the world and had a hobby of growing flowers and the flowers made him happy in the beauty. One night he saw a girl sneaking into the castle and picking his beautiful flowers. The same guy was angry with the girl but still hadn't left the castle the girl came back overnight and picked the flowers and the same guy found himself falling in love with her. The guy wanted to tell the same girl his feelings after a long time of thinking and fears about his appearance, he waited for the girl to arrive as every night but she did not arrive. He waited and waited but the girl did not arrive as always. He expected to tell about his feelings despite his appearance finally the guy found out that the girl had died of illness and he could not tell her his love for her because he was disgusted by his appearance and did not want to be seen . From this song they built their album self love .

This song has the guys voices crying with emotions..it’s soft but so strong..the longing you feel from these young guys..you wonder how do they know this pain..it breaks your heart..I cry every time and I have heard it hundreds of times..you cry because you feel,like they are crying...it’s like BTS are angels that was sent by the universe to console us..to teach us..to love us..it’s amazing...I saw them sing this live at their concert..it felt like my heart stopped..it was so moving and beautiful..people were actually crying..it makes you feel a sense of relief after the song is over..how else can you explain BTS...the universe sees all and they are from the universe.,,angels are beautiful creatures hence BTS...we all have struggles throughout life..not just when you are young and BTS makes us older ARMYs feel like we are not forgotten...I am 69 and Army since 2013 when I found them on KZbin while looking for a kdrama..keep fanboying..no shame it that..if we girls can have girl crushes...why not..keep up your reactions..I love your channel and thank you..😁👵🏽💜🤟🏽🇺🇸

Bts members has so much emotion in their voices while their rapping or singing. That is a skill I think sets good and amazing singers apart. Anyone can be a good singer but if you want to really be amazing and let people remember your voice, you have to have emotion. It's one reason I don't really listen to most other kpop groups (they do have very good singers but for the most part I never really feel emotion in their voices) And your definetly right about it feeling like the songs they sing are meant for you. It feels so personal when reading the lyrics of most of their songs like they are talking to just you. It's really amazing tbh and it shows that they have a big understanding of how a lot of people feel deep down all over the world.

The Truth Untold is one of my absolute favorite songs by BTS and the live versions of both songs are better, because the vocal line is reflecting the emotions and reactions of their audience and each other to what they're singing. Taehyung/V actually cries nearly every time they sing The Untold Truth. The flower,and the story that this song are based on are both part of the BTS Universe and are, therefore, completely fictional. Despite that, the song is very beautiful, of course, and people can relate to it's lyrics, just as you did. Even without you knowing the "story" behind this song, I could tell from your reaction when Jimin sang the line about "Disappeared, Fallen," that you realized that the girl was gone. It's a very sad story that BTS created and RM's lyrics capture it beautifully. To me, the fact that they created a background story for the song and went to so much trouble with it that most people don't even realize that BTS created the story, the flower, AND the song, that's just incredible. It all goes back to the theme of "Love Yourself", too. The story's ending might have been very different if the man had had the courage to show himself to the girl and help her directly, as Jin's lyrics speculate. Thank you for reacting.

I cry while watching or listening to BTS so often, but every time for different reasons. Once it's just because I am touched, once because they told the story so well that I just burst into tears (Spring day, The truth untold), because it's so moving or because their song or words or anything makes me feel like they understand what I am feeling just like you said as if the song was written for me. Sometimes it's because of the members and sometimes it's when I hear about their struggles and they are such good people that I kind of get emocional. And sometimes all that I need to cry is video like 'From nobodies to legends' (yes I get emotional easily but I don't usually cry)

RM said they want to work with steve aoki again and steve asked to work with vocal line as he said he want to produce song for vocal line. I bet he must be really loving BTS vocal line if he check out BTS discography. Most ARMY shook when TTU came out. We never thought its ballad song by steve aoki. But its very good song. As far as i know, many ARMY really like it including me. The lyrics however, is written by RM and probably with steve as well. Bighit even make a fake blog for this love yourself era about smeraldo shop. Yes, they are that extra. 😂 Its been said that smeraldo is based on city named smeraldo. And for this song, its based on a man who live alone and a girl always come to his house and steal his flowers. But he came to like her but when he about to confess his feeling, the girl died. 😭 Steve mentioned last year that he actually going to work with BTS again. Probably for this album. Cant wait to listen what kind of song! They work very well together.

The Truth Untold hits like a ton of bricks on a runaway freight train. What has always impressed me about BTS lyric writing is they manage to tell a story that’s relatable to most, but most impressive is they manage to tell stories that are personal to them, while at the same time talk about the BU. The Truth Untold is one of those, but more like it are all the Wings solos. Those songs are all beautiful, relatable, personal to them and they’re all BU. Each song has so many layers it’s incredible.

Yes totally! Would also strongly recommend listening to each mixtapes in its entirety as there is a cohesive narrative. Also there are usually 2 official mvs for each mixtapes. You can prob find yt playlists that combine the mvs with lyric vids for the rest of the songs

The truth untold was the song that connected me to BTS I remember crying for days listening to that song I was truly blown away by the lyrics and combined with their vocals that was overwhelming! As you said their ability to write such relatable lyrics is incredible and fascinating that no matter where in the world you are you still can relate to those words! I would say they contributed to change the way I look to this world that we are all the same and regardless of geographical and cultural borders with still the same as humans. For me I really really like V's voice. He has a very soulful voice which is very special in the K-POP band in terms of vocal line. His deep voice sometimes is ignored in BTS's songs compared to JK's, Jimin's and Jin's. His solo Singularity can prove his talent voice.
