Right, i mean BTS has a very wide range of genre of music in their 9 years worth of discography, including hiphop because they originally debuted as a hiphop group.. Its not their fault that people specially from the west has a preconcieved notion of what a ""KPOP" should sound like. One reason BTS is now the biggest artist in the world is because they are not afraid to experiment on their sound. If this "shocked" you...i cant imagine once you hear the rest of cypher series , and solo stuff of the BTS rapline like AGUSTD, JOKE, DO YOU, DAECHWITA, OUTRO: TEAR, BASELINE, HANGSAN and more! Believe me when i say, this is not the most "HIPHOP" BTS you have seen yet!

With all due respect if you think this is a new style for BTS you haven't listened to enough BTS. RM and Suga were both underground rappers in South Korea before joining BTS and BTS was originally a hip hop group so their roots are hip hop. They even came to the US in 2014 and got mentored by Coolio and Warren G. All 3 rappers in BTS have their own solo mixtapes and J-Hope released his first solo album this past July and rocked Lollapalooza as a solo act. There are also plenty of BTS songs that are straight rap with just the rap line (RM, Suga, and J-Hope) as well as their own solo songs on BTS albums. They were also were heavily influenced by rappers and hip hop artists growing up. Eminem was Suga's first CD he ever bought and Nas is RM's biggest musical influence. RM also worked alongside Wale, Lil Nas X and Juice WRLD had a collab called All Night with Suga and RM and Suga had a feature on his posthumous album called Girl Of My Dreams. You should listen to Hip Hop Phile/Hip Hop Lover where they literally name drop all the artists who have inspired them. And I'm sorry but being a "hip hop head" is no excuse for not knowing who BTS is. I'm not expecting everyone to know their songs by heart but if someone claims to know anything about music they should have at least heard of BTS by now and assuming all they do is bubblegum pop is just plain ignorance. I can also guarantee you even if BTS were to focus more on the rap side people still would not give them a chance mostly due to the language barrier and because of their preconceived notion of what "kpop" is supposed to sound like. RM even said he doesn't want to limit their music to the term kpop so that's why most BTS fans don't even like to call BTS a kpop group because it automatically pushes people away. But also keep in mind BTS is a group with 4 other members who predominately sing so they can't do straight rapping all the time when it comes to their group songs because the vocalists in BTS are also very talented and their vocal heavy songs appeal to a broader audience. BTS didn't get this and become the biggest group in the world because of 2, 3, or 4 members, but it was because of all 7 members and their talents. I have no problem if you prefer this style of music from them but I don't care for people who try to dictate what kind of music BTS should make especially when they've been doing songs like this for over 9 years. I don't know what or how much of BTS music you've heard before, but I definitely think you need to explore their music more if you think BTS is just bubblegum pop group.

I don’t know how to begin to address your misconceptions lol but it is what it is. This is classic BTS, and even their “pop” tracks have depths and the rapline always kills it. The trouble is that you’ve likely been reacting to title tracks. Bts are kpop IDOLS, they do put out bubblegum pop title tracks from time to time. But that’s the nature of what they come from and they’re not trying to change. They’re not trying to bring in a whole other fan base, people who want to pay any attention to bts in the first place know they’re talented. And bts won’t be shoved down the publics throat in America bc they aren’t American/English. The people who genuinely enjoy hiphop who are open minded enough to even look into bts ARE part of the fan base I assure you ^this is all respectfully. Kpop is a completely different world and if you don’t know anything about it, lots of elements will be foreign to you even as you delve deeper. But that “whole other fan base” you speak of is either already with bts or unneeded. From a popularity standpoint these guys blow any artists you’ve ever known out of the water on a global scale. And with this reaction you only caught a tip of the iceberg as to why lol

Sir, do you know why BTS have a large number of fans? Because they cover so many genre. So they attract all different people who have different taste. No matter what is your taste of music, BTS have them in their music. Well honestly I think a lot ARMY fall in love with them more then the genre itself, it's the lyrics that we all can relate and a lot of their songs give hope and spread positivity while still acknowledge struggles, their humble personalities and how they care and still communicate with their fans. Not many musician make music specific for their fans. BTS does. I don't know why a lot of people in western countries still don't know them but can you believe that Jin of BTS goes live playing game and talking to ARMY in PJ has 8.4M viewers while Emmy Awards only has 7.8M viewers? I hope you will give BTS a chance and go deeper. I believe if you want to go deeper, a lot of ARMY will willingly give you all information, documentaries, songs, live performance, shows, behind the scene, shooting sketches, interviews, and many more that you can explore.

Bruh. They aren't always poppy. They have a lot of different genres. Also I reccomend hip hop lover. It's a hip hop song on their story of hip hop and I won't spoil the lyrics anymore. They started out as a hip hop group. The one that is rapping in orange (Rap Monster, he doesn't go by that anymore, he just goes by RM) is the leader. Leader does not make him the best, but he is just the middle man between the group and their label, also has extra responsibilities. They write and produce almost all of their songs. Also, where is Cypher part 1? RM and Suga were underground rappers before applying to Big Hit. Hip hop heads are gate keepers and aren't open minded, bts had a fair share of underground rappers criticize them because the rappers of the group weren't underground rappers anymore. The rappers in BTS basically said fuck em and went on to create masterpieces, including hip hop songs. Also because you tend to go towards rap and hip hip you'll only see 3 sometimes 4 of the members in most of their rap and hip hop stuff. So don't be confused when you see more or less members of the 7 member group. All the members have solo albums if you want to check them out. The rappers of the group are RM, Suga (a.k.a. Agust D, stands for Suga backwards and the DT is his hometown of Daegu, so Daegu Town), as well as J-Hope.

Sadly it's American radio only plays the poppy stuff and only if it's in English. BTS has such great music in all genres. You have about a decade of music to catch up on there catalog is no joke. You could just start at the beginning No More Dream when they debut in 2013. You also have solo mix tapes and albums to get to as well. Jhope just released his solo album before headling lollapalooza this year and broke records. You can watch the whole performance on KZbin with English subs. Outro tear live is one of my favorites from the rap line. They are even better live so I would always recommend live performance if they have one. You might like born singer and hip-hop lover as well.

"It's what they do, they do kpop" ... it's understandable to think that way after hearing a few singles, but the foundation of BTS is hip hop, and there's magic in their album tracks and solo work. They've been going for nearly 10 years at this point, so there's a lot to discover! The rappers all have solo albums and mixtapes. Plenty of BTS songs are also hip-hop or rap-heavy. Just a few: Cypher 3 & 4 Ddaeng UGH Intro: Persona Outro: Tear There are great live performances for all of those, and a channel called DKDKTV has videos explaining the references in their lyrics. Maybe also rewind back to an early track called 'Hip Hop Lover' to get a taste of their origins and why they do what they do. Of the 3 guys on this track, 2 started out in the Korean underground hip hop scene, and one was a well-known street dancer. They recieved a lot of backlash for 'going mainstream' but through doing that they've been able to reach a massive global audience who'd never have heard them otherwise. They came up through the 'kpop' industry because that was the only potential for them to succeed, but they've written a lot about their identity struggles between the labels of 'pop idol' and 'artist'. RM has a song called 'Do You' specifically about this. BTS is a unique group because they really did come from the bottom to the top. They come from a small company and really struggled in the early years (e.g. all sharing one bedroom). They weren't even set to make it in Korea, but now they're on top of the world. As a fan since the early days it's been utterly surreal seeing them slowly but surely grow to where they are now, entirely through fandom effort, and despite a huge amount of prejudice, racism, haters, death threats, being shut out by radio and media etc. Another good video if you want a quick overview of why people are so crazy about them is 'A Guide To BTS Members: The Bangtan 7'.

Hmmm. You said they do K-pop. I wonder what you think that actually is? K-pop is not a genre by the way. It's actually a western term given to Korean popular music which includes many genres. In South Korea they don't refer to it as K-pop. BTS themselves covers everything from rap to hip hop to R&B to Latin pop to ballad and they all fall under the umbrella of K-pop because they happen to be a South Korean group. BTS has been doing hip hop as well as their other genres since their debut in 2013. And actually BTS was originally conceptualized as a hip hop group. That's why the first two members signed to BTS came from the underground rap scene in South Korea where they were already making a name for themselves. J-Hope signed, mainly because he was a dancer, learned to rap after joining BTS and developed his own style. You would be surprised how large a true hip hop audience BTS has. Many past and current hip hop artists know exactly who they are and absolutely would be able to tell you who BTS is. Many listeners that are into hip hop as you describe it already know about BTS and are fans. As well as a huge contingency of heavy metal aficionados are also BTS fans.

They are delivering things like this consistently, the majority of their work and especially the rappers solo albums are not bubble gum pop. For example, from their latest album in 2020 they have songs called ugh,persona,shadow ect. All the rappers solo works are like this too. Bts at its core will always be hiphop, obviously they do other genres but the majority of thier songs are written by the rappers so its going to be in a hiphop style. But it's in korean and unfortunately Western listeners don't listen to anything in another language an it's almost impossible to get radio stations to play anything in korean. That only leaves them listening to bts' 3 English songs, that happen to be bubblegum pop(that they made in the pandemic to help people stay positive) when people don't look at the other 300+ songs that are hiphop/rnb/ballad/neo soul ect. Its less bts not making hiphop rap songs and more western audiences won't listen to non English and radio won't play it ☹️💜

"That's what they do. They are K Pop" Curious, do you know what K Pop is or just the stereotypes being bandied about? K Pop covers a wide swath of musical genres which make up Korean popular music. In BTS's case, they were doing real hip hop as one of their genres from even before their debut. I know there are different degrees of integrity to rap in the US so why tag Korean rap as lacking depth and not being real when it also runs the spectrum? Then you act surprised when you encounter your first example of a higher level of Korean hip hop. Did you come into this reaction thinking Koreans (K Pop) are automatically inferior music makers? Starting off by boxing BTS as Pop out of ignorance of who they are is like boxing any kind of people because one has ignorantly made suppositions about who they are based on limited knowledge. While judging artists is not as insidious as prejudgments about groups of people, taking care when characterizing the artistry of foreign musicians from a minimally exposed position works best. The good thing about prejudices is they can be overcome. I have seen many hip hop heads who come to respect a group like BTS that delivers across genres without making a statement that they need BTS to stay in a specific hip hop lane to earn their respect. Guess they to their credit are more open minded.

At least half (if not more) of their massive discography (must be over 300 songs now, RM is credited on over 200 alone and Suga and J-Hope are both in the high 100s) is hip-hop. The mixtapes and solo albums are predominately hip-hop as the rappers have released the most solo music thus far. This is what BTS is, they started as hip hop centered on the 3 rappers. They have always been crazy talented and the 4 Cyphers is them seriously flexing.

It is so clear that you haven't listened to enough of them. They've made songs addressing precisely what people like you think about them. They're not one thing. They don't make music to get into the good books of one particular community. If you took the time to understand them you would realise that the beauty of them is that they can do any style any genre and still be true to who they are. But it's clear that you're not yet familiar with that concept.

This song is old and this is their foundation of who they are.

And now you get it. They started with hip hop before mixing in true pop. But they have all genres.

brand new? this song is from 2014 my guy, it will be nine years old soon, bts has been doing hip hop for over a decade, they were originally supposed to be a hip hop group with only rappers, this is who they are and not something new, two members literally started out as underground rappers
@azkaban17hogwarts572 жыл бұрын
That is who BTS are. They are just the rappers and they have their solo projects. Don't worry BTS has a lot of fan and they will continue to get more. They have offer more than what you just hear. They skills even go beyond singing and rapping. If you are interested they dive right in and if you like it spread the word....😀

For your information BTS do not do poppy songs, just 2 English songs during one of the darkest times in modern history to help uplift spirits. All of a sudden they only do poppy sings.. BTS has over 300 songs..
@sam6936912 жыл бұрын
Also they did not write those 2 stupid English songs. They just sing them..
@crystalsnow11382 жыл бұрын
@@sam693691 There were 3 fully English songs (Dynamite, Butter, and Permission To Dance) and RM was the only member credited for any of the songs as he co-wrote Butter. I agree their Korean songs are a lot better, but I don't know if I would call their English songs stupid. They are just fun pop songs that I got a lot of enjoyment from and it also opened a lot of doors for BTS when it came to radio exposure. I know a lot of BTS fans who came to know BTS and the rest of their discography through these fully English songs and for that I'm grateful. If these songs aren't your taste that's completely fine, but a lot of people do like these songs and they are far from terrible.

And I haven't even touched upon many other genres and even tracks of Pop sub genres. With about 300 tracks in their discography, you can never successfully categorise them into any type of a group.

Of dear, he embarrassed himself. No worries, you can't know what you don't know. But we're here to lovingly tell you that you are mistaken or misinformed. They're world class rappers. FYI - K-pop is an integrated entertainment system not a genre of music.
@organiccookie13062 жыл бұрын
Unlike a lot of other artists, BTS can do and actually do lots of different things. They have a discography of about 300 tracks that span lots of different genres. But they all have in common that they were made with utmost sincerity. Personally, I disagree with the statement that BTS have done any bubblegum pop because it is a term that implies lack of depth and artistry. Michael Jackson did pop as well - BTS are on his level of artistry and talent when it comes to pop. But pop is only one of the genres they do, hip-hop is a major part of their identity. They/individual members have had several albums in the Billboard rap album charts - people just need to give them a chance...
@neddiflex24732 жыл бұрын
What "they do" is Hip Hop. That's how they started. The pop came later as members were added to the group. Hip Hop is the root. And this one doesn't even scratch the surface. If you like this then you are in for a treat. Just wait.

Bts rapline has another fandom and yes they are SUPREME Rappers even out of kpop. AGUST D, REAL ME (RM) and HOPE WORLD are their official names when it comes to RAP game.

Glad you are checking more BTS out. As a point of reference, they STARTED with the intent of being a hip hop group and then shifted directions to the kpop industry but did so with their foundation based still in hip hop so this isn't outside of their wheel house, esp. as 2 of the 3 rappers started out in the hip hop underground at age of 13 and were the first 2 members of the group. This is one reason why ARMY say that BTS are not stereotypical kpop even tho' they were labeled that by many... they are well beyond kpop. Even when they put a straight rap song out western industry label it as kpop which blows my mind. Anyway... Thanks for reacting. Strongly suggest you check out some of their backstory to really understand.
@charlene37472 жыл бұрын
wait till he finds out ... they are... indeed... rappers... It shouldn't be the case of BTS having to cater to a specific subset/genera to get "more fans" maybe more people should be open to listing to music outside of their comfort zone - who knows they might just discover something new ... like you just did. People saying they "don't like BTS" because they hear one or two poppy commercial songs on the radio and don't even know the full catalogue of the group. Listen to songs like RAIN, TOMORROW, DIONYSUS, DISEASE and understand they do more than just commercial pop - which let's be real, they need to do if they want to get ANY air play on western radio. Oh yeah, don't forget to check out the rap line's solo albums. j-hope, RM and Agust D (aka SUGA).

I always chuckle when I see reactors who just do not understand BTS and who they really are. They had hip hop roots and their music covers all genres.....and I don't think they need help to be popular....they are one of the biggest music groups worldwide with millions of fans worldwide of ages, ethnicities, etc. You really want to be blown away watch JHope's performance at Lollapolosa 2022...he blew it to shreds....biggest crowd for a performer ever..... and also see if you can find the rappers live performances of Cyphers. They don't borrow from anyone and I am so tired of hearing them compared to tired sounding american artists....some of whom, by the way have collaborated with RM.

The beauty of BTS is that they master and mix in several genres creating something very unique to them. It is something that should be praised not looked down as a flaw. But that being said all three rap members of BTS have solo albums that I think you would enjoy. Go check out SUGA as AGUS-D...or Jhope's new album Jack in the Box.

What makes BTS ‘BTS’ is because they’re not stuck with one genre only. They’re so versatile and they attract people from different background and music taste. They don’t care if they don’t attract hip hop groups or any particular group. Especially now They’re too big to care about such things. They don’t need to make all their music into hip hop. They love and embrace differences. That’s why their fans come from different background and age group, that’s what make BTS big. I’m sure they’ve got massive fans that are hip hop lovers. TRUST ME..BTS know what they’re doing. And BTS ARMY know what they have to do to make BTS bigger than they are now😉😄 welcome to BTS world! I suggest to keep digging their music. 👍

I don't agree. Doing the same thing over and over again means lack of growth. It's ok to like a type of music, but for an artist to get stuck on just one thing must be really frustrating and that's exactly why so many artists burn out and hate their careers. BTS is more... way more daring. They do ALL KINDS OF GENRES, what's important is the quality and the message, and THAT'S why THEY ARE THE BEST.

You really should listen to more BTS. Then you wouldn’t be surprised by this. They do some amazing hip hop. Most genres are no problem for them. Check out “Dope”, “Fire”, “MIC Drop, Steve Aoki remix” and “ON Kinetic Manifesto”. If more people listened to music with open minds, instead of worrying about the massive popularity of a band, they might just learn some new music. Does anybody ask how these guys got to be the biggest band in the world? You can’t manufacture what they have.

Long time lurker in your channel! Happy to see you watching BTS. Watch Outro: Tears live from wembley next. Another great one by the rap line. I consider myself army 💜💜💜💜but I 💯 prefer BTS hip/hop tracks. There’s a LOT of content there. They were hip/hop bboys first. They actually cleaned up their image to be more poppy. Not to denounce their pop tracks they are a talented bunch, but the rap line at least (the 3 guys on this track RM, Suga, J-hope) have their hearts in hip hop. They know their hip hop history too. It can be hard to catch all the puns and the complex bars they lay down with translations but they definitely pay homage. Enjoy the dive!

So BTS debuted in 2013 as a Hip Hop Idol group, and they started out rapping like this. This Cypher is on their third album, Skool Luv Affair. (They have about 19 Korean Albums, and about 14 Japanese releases.)Their sound grew over time, but many people tend to listen to their more "pop" sounding music. BTS does not have Genre boundaries. By the way, KPOP isn't a genre, it's more of an industry. It encompasses Korean popular music, and the Korean IDOL system. Every genre gets lumped under it if it's Korean music. By the way, RM and SUGA came from Korean Underground Rap, and J-Hope learned from RM and SUGA, he was a Hip Hop street dancer when he was signed to BIG HIT. You should listen to his recent solo album, he put his heart and soul into it, and it's old school hip hop, rnb. They all three have mixtapes. And they will all be releasing albums, J-Hope just happened to be ready first. We think RM will be releasing his next. All seven members are focusing on solo albums. And each member has something important to bring to the group, and they are all talented. Bubble Gum Rap is a term that I never heard before you just shared it with us. I didn't know that was a thing.
@alipotter06132 жыл бұрын
RM & Suga struggled in their early years with their identity, being lumped in with the other generic idol groups, rather than being seen as a hip hop group and trying to bring it to the main stream. However, eventually they did come to realise they don't want to be defined by anyone and they can be more than one thing. What a breath of fresh air in music and what a way to create a massive and diverse fanbase, where everyone is welcome no matter your music taste. Also, Cypher pt2 is now 8 years old! We don't want BTS to change thank you, they are doing pretty well following their own path!💜

You should really check out more of their stuff. I would continue with the 4 cyphers, then Tear (both crying & tearing), Ugh!, Ddaeng (there's also explanation videos for some of these because of all the Korean references that would otherwise be missed by us Westerners ☺). 💜💜💜
