People forget how skilled Shuton really is as a player. His victory wasn’t just Sonix playing off or the experience from Ken, it’s from his evolution since smash 4.

The last stock scrambles made this set for me. Most of the set is pretty standard Olimar/Sonic stuff, but you get two of the best players at over 100% swinging for the fences, and things turn exciting real quick. Every game had a great ending.

People don't talk about it enough, but Olimar has a key part of his gameplan that keeps this from being one-sided: Pikmin Latch Attacks. Since Olimar is able to inflict damage to his opponents at a safe distance for some time as long as the Pikmin is alive, it helps matchups like this significantly.

It also just helps build pressure and makes his opponent have to respect and find good openings if they don't want to be smothered by pikmin. That damage racks up so quick if you don’t respect it

Sonix spamming spin charge I think actively hurts him in this matchup. Sitting there charging up spin means Olimar can latch a Pikmin on to you for free. The only way to get it off is to release charge and kill them with the dash, which makes it more predictable when Sonix lets the dash rip. That, or he lets the Pikmin to continue to hurt him. Not to mention free for purples to hit him. I think he would be better off uses Sonic’s ground speed outside of spin dash. Since he can now dash away from Pikmin or just hold shield or even just run in as a mixup. Sonic has some moves that are very good at killing Pikmin too, better than Spindash at least.

Usually, I'd say that Sonix using spin charge so much more and so much more effectively than KEN is one of the biggest advantages he has over him, but in this matchup, maybe KEN's way of playing is better(despite the fact that KEN got absolutely destroyed by Shuton last time they played, while this was very close).

Many spectators thought the future would stick to repetition; that Sonix would be cursed to second place again. But, when one player challenged that, it all seemed to crumble. Say what you want or wish about Sonix and his character, but you gotta give huge props to him for the degree of consistency he’s shown over this past year, having a top 2 streak in ten back to back majors in a row is something that only THE BEST of Ultimate is capable of. None of us saw it coming. He may have not won a major this year but most players would barely fathom getting 2nd at a major let alone do so, let alone do so 10 times in a row. Kudos to this man for all the grinding and determination he put into this game. That Supermajor win will come to you very very soon🫡🫡🫡

Nope. Fuck em. He plays a degenerate sonic and belongs lower than where he is. Leave the championship stage for real prodigies like Snow, Spargo, Mars, Tweek, Leo, Light, and Tea. You’ll see these guys put in work with a slew of characters. Sonix will never pull things like that because he legit cant. I know for a fact if this spindash shit is purged in the next smash Sonix is gonna disappear like off these rankings like some poof magic trick.
