LAZY, BASIC TIPS FOR FAST GROWTH ON CORALS - POOR BOY STYLE

With the cost of corals now, most of us pheasants are left trying to grow up small frags. Well, here's a couple tips that will speed up that growth and maybe even get your tank to a point you can start hustling some of your own corals to others. This tank has that "natural look" that is so difficult to achieve. Anyone can place a bunch of acro frags and get cool colours and shapes by dosing and etc etc... but it never looks natural. When I sit at my tank, my nose is 2 inches from the glass. I want to see weird details and unexpected "bonus" corals. I want to see complex live rock and cool worms and other inverts. If you don't like that look, that's cool. But if you want that "rockpool" look, this advice is spot on.

My saltwater ecosystem looks nearly the same except it is 200 gallons and it is sps only . When I see those HUGE toad stool leather corals I am getting them next time I go to the fish store. WOW THEY ARE SO COOL

@@ewok4951 plus it’s about selling high price crap. Led lights all come from china. You pay for name brand and functions. I have friends with cheap led like vitaspectra and grow coral like crazy. Now I just ordered smatfarm led which I’ve seen ppl say that had kessil and Ai that they are just as good if not better. They do sunrise and sunset.. also you can control each channel..

I watched one of your first video about the sea lab 28. I started using it and the coralline algae in my tank took off and my corals are doing great didn't realize that that was what the difference was. Ran out of it and started watching my tank disintegrate slowly. Everything did not die off but it was Definitely a difference. Thanks for sharing the knowledge brother

@@cobyceltic9736 I put mine in the sump. It will slowly disintegrate over time. I don't know exactly how long it takes. But when I see that it's gone I just put another one in.It's not something that you have to really watch. Well you should see a difference within a month or so. Good luck

For fast coral growth, especially with LPS, maintain pH at 8.3 or higher. In order to do that, you have to raise alkalinity by either dosing or with a calcium reactor. Corals grow by building their calcium carbonate skeleton. When sunlight hits the ocean, the water strongly absorbs long-wavelength colors at the red end of the light spectrum, as well as short-wavelength light, including violet and ultraviolet. The remaining light that we see is mostly made up of blue wavelengths. And due to the depth these corals are collected, the blue light will grow corals.

With your reefing philosophy, if you do have test kits laying around, I would assume they're more than likely expired from sitting too long lol. One thing to keep in mind if you do test it, may be time for new kits

How do you keep your algae under control? I struggle with algae even without that kind of light and keeping my nutrients low. I wish I would get to the point where I could let it go a bit.

I think its a little bit more complex when it comes to light spectrum. My understanding is coral need a little bit of everything, but they still have preferences. Deeper water corals typically get more blue light and are adapted to such while shallow water corals can thrive with a white/yellower spectrum. A good number of your coral (a lot of softies in general) come from shallow reefs so white light is great. But if you are getting into deeper water corals they will use more blue if available so balancing out to white spectrum might not be giving deep water corals enough blue.

Yes. I have the smaller blocks. They come in a white jar with an orange label. I forgot about them but just got to talk to some pros that use them, and I'm going to start using them again. Those pros have largely moved on to All-For-Reef though. Similar concept but liquid.

You should add some gorgonians to that tank since it's predominately a softie tank. They add great movement. I'm going to try the 28 blocks since I currently don't dose anything. Here's my tank. @@btuff yes but if people do what you ve done their tank will crash from to much light and algae. The blue lights are not for us. The corals need the blue. Most soft corals and lps corals are found 40 feet below the surface in the wild. On blue and a bit of white reach that far down. Alot of the corals we buy now days are not even taken from the reef. They are grown in coral farms. Then you are charged a very marked up rate. The price of corals now days is awful. Farmers give a coral some outragious name and then they charge you an arm and leg for it. There is a coral farm about 45 minutes away from my home. Pacific East Aquaculture. Dr. Mac can teach you a thing or 2. He is growing most of his corals under blues only including SPS. Alot of his sps though and clams are grown in sunlight in a greenhouse.

@@lmtsmt847 no the whole light thing. Most corals minus sps and clams are found below 40 feet in the ocean. They take in mostly blue light. Blue light is not for us but the corals.
