I left Vietnam as a refugee back in 1987 to Thailand. While staying in a Thai police station waiting to be transported into a refugee camp, we were allowed to go out at day time. I visited a coffee shop and watched Muay Thai fights on TV. That was the first time I knew of it. I liked the fights but hated the commercials. The same commercials were played over and over and over between the fight scenes, and it drove me nut. Anyway, back then I still believed that Chinese Kung Fu was better and Muay Thai fighters would be easily defeated by Kung Fu masters. Pass forward into now, after watching many video clips of Muay Thai vs Kung Fu, I have different opinion now. Muay Thai is an effective combat martial art and is comparable with any other martial art discipline. By the way, Buakaw is one of my favorite fighters.

Man, I'm so pissed off it's not even funny!! I wish I would have known he was coming to DC, I would have been there, because I live outside of Baltimore, I live in Carroll County MD.....I'm so upset about this, I would have loved to have been able to meet him! Damn, damn damnnnnnn!!!😢😭 Buakaw is my favorite, him and Saenchai, but I like Buakaw more and he's the reason I got into watching Muay Thai. I hope he comes back again sometime soon in the future and I can find out about it, maybe I can write to him and ask him if he can come to Baltimore.

Thank you to Buakaw and other Thai people for spreading Khmer Martial Art to the world, The Civil War took many decades in Cambodia, Khmer Rough, as well as Pol Pot Regime, all of that wars cause all Cambodian people fell into the most rough time ever. Millions of people have died, during that time they're in fighting every moment, have no time to show the very old kind of Martial Art as well as their own culture to world, most of the people from around the world may confuse. That kind of Martial Art is not from Thailand, it's originated from Cambodia Country. But Thai Country is so lucky that such a war never happened, they have time to play around with influenced Martial Art that they get from Cambodia's culture, Khmer Country or Kampuchea and they rename it for their own name as Muay Thai. Nowadays, these two countries are in Drama of conflicting this kind of Martial Art, Because of Thai people not accepted that the Martial Art that they try to promote is influenced by Cambodian's Martial Art called Khmer Martial or now Cambodian people called it Kun Khmer, from ancient time, or it is originated in Cambodia. it's a long story, but try to make a brief for all who doesn't exactly know about this. Now Cambodia country is in peace, so they are started in trying to conservate and promote their own Martial Art in the name of Kun Khmer, Things take sometime to proof.

Buakaw is a Khmer but he won't admit it. He said he is a Kuy. Kuy is Khmer Boran. UNESCO does not recognize Muay Thai, because they know it is a copy from Kun Khmer. Kun Khmer is UNESCO recognized. But Thanks for spreading Khmer culture but just don't relabel it.

Is it an Khmer old martial art form called Bokar Tor? I watched the video clip about this practice that Cambodian guy who lives in Long Beach, CA, revived this old Khmer martial art. Now Thai tries to spread it in America. When you copy someone's work, it won't be as original as it is. The same thing to the Chinese who tries to copy American military hardware, but it doesn't work as the master did.
