I always thought that Kung Fu is disrespected because it is an impractical style/technique of fighting. Honestly seems to be overly theatrical compared to other disciplines, this has been evident in many fights throughout history. Ill admit that KungFu does offer some advantage, specifically related to he range of striking, but as a Martial art it is very overhyped and incomplete in my opinion.

When I first started training in Martial Arts, I got really good at this spinning wheel kick. I practiced it every day and used it all the time in sparring matches until my opponents got the timing down. One day, in a qualifying match for a tournament I was using my favorite move and after a couple of misses, I was sure the 3rd would connect... next thing I know I am face to the mat and the room is spinning.
