SUMMER SOLSTICE SUNRISE RITUAL 2020

Rollo Maughfling, Arch Druid of Stonehenge explains and performs the sunrise ritual that traditionally takes place every year at Stonehenge to celebrate the summer solstice, with a large gathering of people present to observe the sunrise.
This year, 2020, the policy to restrict public gatherings as a response to the 'Corona virus' scare, has meant that for the first time is many years the celebrations at Stonehenge were disallowed. Although the Druids themselves were to be permitted to carry out the rites, the people who would usually also be participating at sunrise and sunset were to be excluded. Therefore a decision was taken to not perform the rituals without them.
Here The Arch Druid performed the rituals and evocations and invites us all to take part.

(To put it in the Universe, I am excited to place my feet on the soil in Wales at the best moment for me to do so!) Also, I loved learning that the I, A, O chant is seen as the “the sound that unites all souls, taking their scattered energies away from vain self interest and pursuits and uniting them in a field of cosmic energy, so infinitely greater than the sum of its individual parts and that illumines the entire Universe” (according to John Michelle, or that is how I heard you.) Well now apart from the updating of the words as time has gone on and langauge has expanded, they have been observed for centuries. Handed down through time by word of mouth.

The rituals mark the cycles of the Sun and seasons. This is not “worship” it is observation, acknowledgement and gratitude for nature, respect for the life-giving sun. Perhaps sun ‘worship’ is the oldest ‘religion’ for in real terms the sun is truly the life-giver. All life on Earth depends on and is maintained by it. By marking the seasons, Equinoxes and Solstices, the yearly cycle of cultivation and harvest, etc etc is ordered and regulated. The rituals are a thanksgiving and and a call to harmonise our lives with nature.

@@Bubbapix I tell the TRUTH. On the contrary GOD is the Life giver, If it was not by the wonderful works of the Lord the sun wouldn't exist. The sun is the souce for the natural world but the sun consists, because of God. Colossians 1:16-17 For by him (YHWH =JESUS) were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. YHWH is the Way the Truth and the Life. YHWH IS JESUS JESUS IS GOD.

@@sevenstars9292 That’s OK .. whatever you want or feel compelled to call it, there is nothing contradictory in my reply about the rituals. And nothing contrary to ‘God’ - the Great Mystery, The Great Spirit, etc etc etc, depending your birth location and culture. I’ll settle for “God is One” . God’s sun, the earth, and nature itself.. of which we are part are all “God” by whatever name you call it. One Love .

@@sevenstars9292 In the context of this video and the question asked: “What is the ritual for” It’s about honouring creation and harmonising with its seasons, on Earth. It’s about love, unity and respect. The Sun ( deserves a capital, it’s a star after all) is possibly the most visible, consistent and tangible yet unfathimable expression of creation that mankind has ever had to give thanks and praise, and even pray to.. Don’t knock it.. it is not inconsistent with the essence of all “True” religions. I reckon Jesus was probably loved the Sun, his story in fact coincides with the sun, being at its lowest in the horizon at that time in the winter and appears to ‘die’ - the longest night. in the constellation of The Cross. After 3 days the sun begins the rise again and the days get longer- the coming of the light. The stages are marked by the solstices and equinoxes that coincide with, and predate the Christian calendar. Global agriculture, migrations and navigations have always referred to and depended on an reverence for the sun and the seasons. If it’s not ‘worship’ it is certainly awe.
