I’m in high school still, and my “crew” of about 30-40 friends at my school and other schools nearby go cruising on highway 100 in Hales Corners Wisconsin every Friday and Saturday night in the summer. Man we got some story’s and it’s cool to keep the tradition going! Thanks rabbit 🤘🏻

Glad your keeping the tradition going. My older sisters use to cruise in Manitowoc, WI in the 80's and early 90's, but by the time I got to their age no one cruised anymore.

I went cruising in Hartsville S.C. in '96. From the Wal-Mart to Sonic in a circle. Just like Rob said.. Girls just would hop in. Well... I got pulled over in my '64 Impala.. With 13 people inside. Still dont know how I didn't get a ticket. But like the man said.. Times are different.

Cruising was killed because cops started ticketing everybody for everything. Little did they know they destroyed the revenue for that City. New Castle Indiana was extremely popular for cruising with hundreds if not thousands of the cars attending every Friday and Saturday. I miss it.

American Graffiti revived the "main street cruising scene". I grew up in Fremont, CA that had a NHRA Drag Strip....There was lots of "late night activities" in the southern industrial parks of my town. I worked the counter at a NAPA auto parts store, the cops were getting militant about "cruisers" thankfully I had a cool boss who gave me a letter of permission that we could park in the store's parking lot to show the police and I had to several times prove I worked at the store by unlocking and disarming the stores alarm system. One of my fellow counter guys was a police reserve officer....We used to go out to a couple of sites to engage in late night automotive activities....I'd show up to work on a Saturday morning and hear a remark from Greg...."saw a 340 Duster on Kato Rd late last night doing well in excess of 110MPH!" too bad I was busy with my paperwork from the previous "Speed Contest" ticket and didn't finish writing the report before he disappeared......Good Times before drugs guns & gangs were commonplace in the American society.

They have ""Cruising Laws" now? Wow, that's messed up. I used to have a 1976 Corvette (Four Speed painted Candy Apple Red), I had ladies jump in that car off the street I didn't even know all the time. Cruising was my entertainment during high school. Just like you said, no one ever got hurt, just tire smoke and a lot of fuel was burned. Great stories Rabbit!

Up here in Winnipeg we still have a pretty decent Sunday night cruise down the main strip in town. Nice mix of classics, new and old muscle, JDM/Tuner, Luxury yachts, some cool oddballs, and even a few exotic/supercars. Plus all the folk who just love to cruise their normal cars checkin out the scene. Its great for bringing all genres of car culture together to mix with car enthusiasts of all kinds. An awesome way to experience your city as well.When I was 15, I was lucky enough to visit relatives in Detroit around summer 96 and experience the iconic Woodward Ave Cruise. Highlight was standing next to a red F40 for bout a half hour in total awe, then getting to hear it fire up and cruise away. A memory I will never forget. Keep on cruisin y'all. Peace Rabbit.

My cruisin years were 88 thru 92. Jasper Ave in Edmonton Alberta. Huge cruise nights every weekend till the wee hours. About 5-6 miles all lanes jam packed each direction. Basically just like American graffiti. Lotta good times, shenanigins, and memories. Police didn't care (i think they were having just as good a time as us) I remember the mini truck and huge stereo subwoofer scenes were in full effect. You could hear MC Hammers "Can't touch this" reflecting off buildings all night. lol I had a Baha Bug. I drilled holes in both the headers and tapped screwholes in them. On cruise nights id pull the bolts out, run it rich and the air would mix with the unburnt fuel in the exhaust during engine braking and shoot big blue flashes out the stingers. Anythung to impress the chicks lol.

Cruisin was still alive when I was in highschool graduated in 2016, drove a jacked up 87 wrangler (still got it) and all the car/truck kids from my school used to cruise down this long low traffic highway out in west Phoenix. Miss those days had some of the best times rollin with the top down and the music up just enjoying the night with all kinds of kids from the school, I dont think kids really do that anymore it's a shame.

In knoxville we cruised Broadway from Shoneys to McDonalds to A&W then over to Magnolia for McDonalds Tic Toc and back again. I started with my dads 1971 LTD. 429 4bbl. trailer towing package with 3:90 rear, HD cooling, brakes etc. I could kill small block Camaros with that car. My dad got me a 1968 GTO when I was 17 so the racing was on after than. I came back after retiring and found out my best friend and my high school girlfriend have both passed away. Broke my heart. It would have been fun to look back at those times.

I used to work Friday nights for sure, and sometimes Saturday nights too, at a store in a shopping center where the turn around spot was. People would hang out in the parking lot, and as soon as they started to do things like lean against my car, the police would get called. About 5-10 minutes later, empty parking lot. This was EVERY weekend for over a year.

So are you saying you called the cops on some kids for learning on your ride? Instead of telling them to stay away from it? Like I get the whole font touch my ride but just sounded like u were the reason behind the cops coming... words of wisdom do NOT ever touch anyone else's ride unless ur asking to piss them off.. that's like messing with someones kids u just dont do it
@EMFAudio
@EMFAudio 4 жыл бұрын
@@slimwilly573 How do you think going into a group of 100+ teenagers, as a teenager in your work clothes saying "hey, stop being sketchy around my car" will go? Yes, my store was the reason for the cops coming, because they were causing problems every weekend. Parking spaces were being occupied, people didn't want to come into the store because of the crowd of people, who were potentially damaging cars and leaving trash in the parking lot. It was best to leave the loitering issue to the police and not engage the crowd.

Damned if you didn't take me back to my first year of college... and cruising Main Street here in Mesa, AZ on a Friday or Saturday night. When I say the words "car culture" those are the times that flash through my mind. You are exactly right about the "circle", except mine was 23 miles... from the door steps of ASU to the end of the line in Apache Junction. It took all night to go around 3 times. Nobody ever got shot and no ladies ever got harmed. The cowboys had their pickups (some decked out like Peterbuilts) and the low-riders bounced at every stoplight while the muscle car guys used their "Line Locks" to make some smoke. Me and my buddy rode around in a primered, loud, hood-less '48 Chevy truck with a hot 327 and cherry bombs, giving free rides to girls who were willing to cram into the cab, sometimes 2 at a time... We weren't out to cause mischief... We just loved the freedom our cars gave us. You can see in our faces when we talk that some of us (yourself included) still feel that way....

I'm about ten years older than you. We went cruising , but we had car activities all night. Guys would start talking smack, so they'd choose off, and go race. Then everyone would go to the fast food drive thru and collect all the ketchup packs they could get and put them in two lines, and guys would do crazy smokey ketchup burn outs, ...... just because. We still had a drive in movie in town and everyone would drive in the exits from all four corners, and watch the second movie, then go cruise down to the beach parking lots till the Police showed up and told everyone to go home. Hopefully at that point you'd have fallen in love for the night ........ Lots of fun. No one got hurt, and you met lots of new people. No cell phones, but everyone kind of knew the drill. If there were good bands at the bars in the Summer, everyone could cruise there if they could get in. That was always good to show up with a bunch of cool cars and 20 - 30 people that the owners knew were not trouble makers. Great times.

Wow. Thank you, reminds me… I was a student at a facility in the U.K. that I won’t mention. While we were there a prime commercial development was built next door and the shared entrance was made into a roundabout with a big fountain in the middle. Well, one Friday night after a week of exams everyone was out downtown on the piss and having fun, when we got back to campus the fountain was actually on for the first time ever so we jumped in had a laugh and started adding shampoo and anything else we could find. The results were pretty disappointing but we had a good night 🍺. The next morning though that junction was impassable due to foam all over the road, the mayor was due to visit and open the new prime site and lots of guests etc. We got a serious telling off but all just shrugged our shoulders and said nothing, my room was right next to the fountain and I never heard a thing that night. 😂

In the Winston-Salem, NC area, the strip was Stratford Road. Friday and saturday nights. From Rays starlight on one end to the Putt-putt on the other. Stoplight starts. If we had a top end race,we'd roll out on 40W. Up to bout early 80's when traffic and development and the cops put it to an end. Sure was fun. Got to see and drive many muscle cars, saw and was involved in many races. sigh.

Only problem was that the police cruised it as well and they knew me and my car on a first name basis. Would just pulled me over randomly to make sure we were having a “good and legal time”. Good Lord man, I swear you're my brother from another mother. Only thing is, I did it a few years before you. Cruisin? I graduated in '65 and we cruised from late '63 up to and through '68 (I graduated in '65) when I went into the Air Force. I grew up in Whittier California and everybody came from miles around to cruise "Whittier Boulevard and Bob's Big Boy. A lot of drag races originated on Whittier Boulevard that would wind up down on Lambert Road.. After I got back from Viet Nam, I was stationed at Luke Air Force base right outside of Phoenix. The cruisin' once again commenced. A hot black 62' Super Sport Impala with a built 327, radical cam, dual quads, Doug Thorly headers, 4:88 Posi rear end and Cragar mags with a "Cali license plate was an instant chick magnet. But, the thing several of my buddies in the Air Force and I did was to do the same thing you did with the fountain thing except we all went swimming in our clothes (Drunk as skunks) in the downtown Phoenix library's fountain. The cops came, (plain clothed ) asked us for our Id"s. I said"You show us yours first." They did, then we did and since we were military, they cut us loose and we went back to the base. But you, my brother, really struck a familiar note with me when told your story! AWESOME! (I'd sure like to pick up a '69 Z28 from you sometime. Preferably with a 302. One can hope!) Keep 'em comin' my man!

This reminds me of something from college. I went to junior college at NEO in Miami, OK. There is a big fountain outside the library/admin building. Every spring during dead week or finals week it would get soaped. It was Crystal White Octagon Soap one time ( I recognized the smell because my grandpa used it to lubricate beads on tires when he fixed wagon and other farm tires). That stuff ran down the twin sidewalks over a block to the girls dorm almost. Funnier than all get out. Only thing that was better was one time some guys went noodling and put some good sized catfish in it.

Rabbit, the world has changed and not for the better in many respects. I lived in a Navy town. The sailors (who were teenagers for the most part) would arrive in port "young dumb and full of (you can guess the rest) and loaded with cash. The used car lots knew when a big carrier was coming in dumping 5,000 folks into town at once. They would load their lots with Mustangs, Camaro's and muscle cars of every make and model they could find. Those kids would spend money literally like drunken sailors on all of these cars, load them with gas put Gabriel Hi-Jackers under the ass end, slap big meats on the rear and hit the streets. They kept the local police and Shore Patrol very busy for months.
