Ok I know this might be a stupid question but it was so small to begin with and as time went on you could see how much it had spread. What causes this to happen? No foreign objects in it?
@olympicmovies94414 ай бұрын
I assume bacteria traveled throw this crack down and started the seperation.
@sputteringsputnik4 ай бұрын
The defect starts when the horn is first formed. As it hardens and grows, the defect travels down the hoof until it reaches the outside, at which point foreign material (aka bacteria) can travel up the crack all the way to the corium and become an infection under the hoof.
@McChrister4 ай бұрын
@@sputteringsputnikYou either have been paying real close attention to Nate’s videos or are a hoof trimmer yourself?🤷🏻♀️😂👋🏼🇨🇦
@keiyangoshin36504 ай бұрын
At some point either the hoof suffered a hit of some sort, causing a white line defect or an object caused the lesion but wasn’t embedded in the hoof. Because the pus from infection can’t come out it builds inwards causing the separation between the damaged area and the new hoof material. Could also be digital dermatitis or an ulcer. Only way to know is to scrape it until it’s found. That’s what I’ve learned from Nate’s work over the last two years anyway. 😅

I love how gentle (but thorough) you are with the sweet cows, Nate. They are in good hands with you around. It's not easy to make a cow live in conditions that benefit both the cows and humans, that will minimize some of these potential hoof deformities (caused by filth and hard floors, etc), so your help is a blessing for these beautiful animals.

Our home raised Ruby was seen by our local vet this week and we’ve been told she has irreparable damage toe split and we need to send her to the abbatoirs. He said it’s hereditary but we’ve had her Mum on the property for several years and she has no issues so we’re very sad that Ruby has no options. I wonder if the vet is just overworked and if with added care, Ruby might recover with all the love she’s used to. 😢
