⁠dairy cattle are terrible mothers. They honestly don't care about their calves after they've given birth and get the calf clean. Not so much for the calf but to prevent predators from finding them.

You have the best hoof trimming videos. I have watched some of the others and they’re getting silly, more of the video shows them goofing off then actually trimming hooves. They’re also always trying to sell merchandise or books. Your videos on the other hand are always easy to watch. You’re informative, you have a very calm voice and you speak clearly. Your video angles are spot on. You obviously care a lot about the cattle that you’re working with. The barns you’re working in look clean. The animals look very well cared for and they are remarkably calm and curious. Love your channel!

Angus cow calf farmer here. We noticed cow really lame all the sudden and at feeding one day. Looked at her foot and wow has a massive patch of dermatitis between here hooves and has a big corkscrew hoof. For the first time may get the hoof trimmer out and do our one bull too

So those are the only ones I watch now. I would say that HoofGP and Nate are the two I like the most. But Tec TV is O.K. too.

Yes, I also guarantee that the other guys do not wash the cow's feet on a regular basis. It's just for the few cows shown in the videos. It can be useful to wash their feet in a few rare cases but not for routine trims. Where it can be useful is during rechecks or when a cow is clearly lame. This can make it easier to find the source of the problem or assess the condition of the cow's foot. It's not about getting their foot clean. That would be close to impossible. It's about removing debris that is making it harder to see what's going on. HoofGP says that it's a waste on time to wash their feet, but you will still see him do it in some of his videos. Primarily for the reasons I have stated. Special cases where it's helpful. And a person obviously needs to exercise good judgement. Even the guys on Tec TV, who you will see doing this more frequently in their videos, are not going to be doing it in freezing weather. They will brush off the debris instead. Which is essentially what you do. You just scrape it off quick with the knife to accomplish the same thing. But it's important to note that what we see in videos are almost never routine trims. Those would be boring to watch. These are a few of the cows who have severe problems. They represent a tiny percentage of the cows trimmed. So, some of things done in the videos are not something one does on every trim.
