Eh, I became a hardcore GTA fan way back in 2001 when _GTA III_ first came out; I was only 10 at the time and had already played _GTA 2,_ not to mention all of the violent movies I'd seen in the years before that (my father showed me _Alien_ when I was just 6 -- it scared the ever-loving shit out of me, but it also created a deep love for the film that I still have). To this day it's still my favorite video game series, with _GTA IV_ being my favorite game of all time. Most of my friends growing up were also GTA fans or at the very least fans of some other violent video game, and they all turned out okay for the most part; any problems they might've had certainly didn't stem from playing a violent game when they were younger. As long as the kid has a good head on their shoulders and can tell the difference between right and wrong, reality and fiction, etc., then I think they can handle something like GTA.
