Hey Dave tried his best. He's lived a hard life. It's not easy having no surname. He can't fill out forums. He can't open a bank. People look at him weird when he says "No I'm just Dave". People have to call him Mr Dave which just sounds weird. You can't get his attention when he's in a room full of Daves. Hell, I bet he couldn't even get a job. All these last name biases in the workplace holding poor old Dave down. Imagine his surprise when Ps: Extreme magazine called him back with a job offer. The story of this game is heartbreaking. A lot of people don’t realise that the game only turned out like this because it was developed at a time when the only 3D platformers were Tomb Raider and Jumping Flash. They didn’t go for Mario 64 style movement because that game only released two months before the release of Bubsy and it was too late to change it. Danno the Artist made a great video talking about the nitty gritty and it honestly almost made me cry.

did you know that the lightning guy at 1:15 was actually originally the 18th Angel from Neon Genesis Evangelion, but Hideaki Anno thought it was just too terrifying for the series so he sold the rights to the developers of Bubsy 3D for the rights to put Bubsy in The End of Evangelion movie as the final ultimate boss and the destroyer of all of existence. Ultimately Bubsy was cut from the film at the end of post-production because he too was determined to be simply too horrifying for audiences.

Man I have to say Bubsy 3D was one of the greatest games of all time. I mean just think about how revolutionary the graphics were. Man. They really thought outside of the box with the color choices and textures. And that masterpiece of a soundtrack? Have mercy. They honestly created some of the best tunes in videogame history. Especially as you noted how it is like a descent into madness at the beginning. Its just so deep and really brings you along with Bubsy's journey so we can all recover from madness together. No wonder this game got the Gold X Award. The control scheme is the icing on the cake - regular Mario 64 controls would be way too easy (as most 3d platformers of the day were), so Bubsy 3D instantly brings the difficulty up a notch with cutting edge tank controls that can challenge even the most skilled of gamers. Everyone knows this game has practically infinite replay value since the gameplay experience never gets old. And if that wasn't enough, there's also a hilarious cat and mouse mode so you can descend into madness with your friends. But don't think you can run this on anything as you'll need the latest GTX 4090 Ti to run this puppy. If only the team stayed together long enough to make Bubsy 4D. Then again it would have been too awesome for anyone to bear. We can always dream I suppose.
