My brother and I, aged about 14 and 15, were walking to the beach in Eastbourne - anything to escape the weekly Sunday tediom of the grandparents, when I thought I'd had some sort of optical illusion, as between two houses, looking out to the beach, a "thing" and another "thing" had streaked past at second story height My brother looked at me to confirm that he too had "moment" when we were both almost incontinent from the deafening roar that followed. Being aviation nuts, we ran the last 10 feet or so to see two Buccaneers 30ft above the beach screaming east. What a fabulous moment!

My favourite quote from an RAF pilot, came from one of the Op Black Buck Vulcan crew. He described night time in flight refuelling with the Vulcan probe, as akin to: Inserting a piece of hot limp spaghetti, up an angry cats arse, during a hurricane while blindfolded.

I remember being in the car on a mountain pass along with about 30 other cars somewhere in Mid Wales stuck at temporary traffic lights, when two buccs screamed past us. The buccs were down and dirty and we were eye level with the pilots, who were waving at us. When the first two buccs screamed past, everyone abandoned their cars causing chaos, but no one cared. In total we saw about 4 buccs, a couple of harriers and a jag. Good times👍

EXCELLENT historical document. Thanks to all who were involved in bringing this to the attention of a wider audience. Got "bounced" once, in 1972, by a pair of Buccs in the English Channel on an RNVR minesweeper en-route to the Channel Islands. Impressive sight.

My uncle served on HMS Victorious. They had Buccaneers on board. An amazing piece of British engineering.

I was standing on The Mall for the Battle of Britain Flypast in September 1990 that Jon was a part of. The number of aircraft was 176 (I'm an accountant - numbers stick in my head!). I set my watch that morning to the second, using the Radio 4 time pips and counted down the number of minutes and seconds to the first aircraft flying above us. I had calculated the place we were standing was about 4 seconds flying time to Buckingham Palace. I called out '10 seconds'. . . after 5 more seconds my friends looked at me as if to say 'where are they?'. Then, exactly 5 seconds later, 7 Merlin engined Spitfires and Hurricanes roared overhead, leading the formation. This was written about in The Times the next day - the formation was lead by the lead Spitfire pilot who achieved that level of precision using nothing more than a stop-watch, a map and a compass. I will never forget that day.

I remember that Dave Southwood, the guy that won the Empire Test Pilot School award way back in the late 80s was a Buccaneer pilot. The best of the best.

I was an army SNCO and what I always enjoyed most was visiting other unit messes and listening to all the stories. Most of which had at least a little truth to them. I was lucky enough for various reasons to spend some time with both the RAF Reg and Royal Marines, in their messes. Needless to say, the banter, pranks and war stories were epic. Huge respect for both the RAF Reg and RM lads but don't tell them I said so.

I joined the airforce in 95 and served 12 years as an Armourer so missed the Buccaneers and Phantoms but would have loved to have worked on either jets 😔 served on GR Tonkas for 2 tours belting jets but there’s something about the bucc and tomb.

Nothing looks quite so "at home" at low level as a Bucc, especially when they are approaching you near head on.

When you look at British military aircraft they certainly have been cutting edge and often very different to American aircraft !! The British aircraft industry is capable of still producing cutting edged an advance aircraft .

When the anglosphere stand united as one. We are unstoppable! You missed out the Kiwis - the fifth eye. It's not their fault the current NZ PM Hipkins is more marxist than Biden and Trudeau combined. Speaking of Trudeau. Did you know that Fidel Castro was his real father. His mum was a bit of a party animal and close friend of Fidel! While Two Tier Keir is actually an undercover Imam.
