Los Angeles-based synthesist and inventor Skyler King hosted an electronic music festival in the high desert near Joshua Tree National Park on Dec 4, 2021. It was the first time I'd performed electronic music live since the pandemic began, and it felt great to be back.
This piece is an improvisation consisting of three instruments: The Buchla Music Easel, the Leaf Audio Microphonic Soundbox, and the Strymon Timeline delay/looper. A small rig that doesn't take a lot of room, and is fast to set up and tear down. All aspects of these three devices are immediate, direct, and easy to improvise with - perfect for making sound art on the fly.
Under the Big Tree is Nicolas Peck's KZbin channel, focused on esoteric electronic music, modular and vintage synthesizers, sound design equipment and techniques, and the composition, production and performance of music.
