Classic country boy deer knife. Easy to clean after processing game. When I was growing up every country boy in the south wanted a 119, a 110, and a 301 Stockman for Church and school ( _yes we carried pocketknives in school back then_ ). Add a 4 wheel drive, a 12 gauge, a 30.06, a 10/22, an aluminum bass boat with a trolling motor, an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur Baitcast Reel, and a subscription to Field and Stream or Outdoor Life and you had everything every schoolboy in the Appalachians wanted.

Got my 119 back in 1988 (with the old 425M steel) and after 35 years of hunting, the knife is still functional and working. After 35 years, the blade doesn't retain the sharpness as long as it used to, but that is to be expected and normal after that much use and wear. The best part of a 119 is the decades worth of memories you get each time you look at the knife, definitely one you buy to pass down to the next generation.

The name Buck as well known as the name Ka-Bar. At least over here. The knife sells itself, no introductions needed, everybody knows what knife you mean. That means consistent quality over decades to reach that fame and hold the good name. Pretty good for a company and a pretty good companion. Thank you John.

It's called a hidden tang which runs the full length of the handle and is riveted at the pommel, so better than a rat tail, but maybe not quite as a good as a full tang construction. I would assume the 117 is made the same way.

Thanks for your review on this American Classic and iconic knife. I really enjoyed you explaining about the history of the 119 as well. 👍The Buck 119 Special was the first knife of significant quality I ever really owned and was a gift from my folks back when I was 16. I still have that knife and someday it will be passed down to my children and/or grandchildren if I'm ever blessed with them. I also have the Buck 119 Pro and it's really nice. Thanks for sharing, take care and Cheers!

I ordered mine from buck knives but decided to make it look like Dexter's knife off of the series Dexter I got a brown handle and brass and s30v steel^^but also if the book company was to be smart they could put pins inside the knife to keep it just in case if they don't actually have to put glue it could last much longer I wish they would think of that.

@@ThriftyKaniffy I was thinking about like the handguard where it has the black line through it, they should have made that one solid piece instead of splitting it, it just puts a lot of glue inside of a knife so much glue that we really don't need the last part is the more solid the more last longer it will be:)

Got my Buck 119 back in the 80's. When Buck was using 425HC Stainless Steel. Plus, the sheath it has is a sandwich style sheath. So a front piece, back piece with gusset. So no drain hole. Its been a very good knife, and still is. Its not a Rat Tail. Its a over molded stick tang, that has been necked down just enough to get the guard on. A rat tail tang, looks like a rat tail. The tang on the 119, does not look like a rat's tail.

Lovely knife. The only foreign-made knife I own together with the Benchmade Adamas, until know, in my knife collection made of Lionsteel, Extrema Ratio, MKM, Fox, Maserin, Wander Tactical, Viper and a bunch of artisanal Italian knives (well, I'm from Rome, our knives are gorgeous, why give my money to unknown foreigners?). I paid only €70 for the 119 less than a month ago, undoubtely a bargain for such an American icon.

I'm back on "the list" got my first Case!!! The next on the list is a little vague, just a traditional Anglo/American style Hunting knife. A Buck 119 is definitely in the running. One American made knife I've had for many years I really value is a Buck 679, only entry level but still a fantastic blade. The steel snobs turn their noses up at 420, Buck, Taylor's Eye Witness and Marttinni all 420. I like the steel on all three brands.
@ThriftyKaniffy
@ThriftyKaniffy Жыл бұрын
Yes way to much is made of blade steels being insufficient. Buck do a fantastic heat treat, and founder Hoyt understood that from the very beginning. People came to him for the edge he could keep on farming implements, well before he transitioned to knives. It has always been a priority within the company. Thanks, JK.

Why do you need micarta and full tang? If it had full tang it wouldn't be the same knife so what's the point? If you haven't noticed, there IS a version of the 119 with micarta handles and upgraded steel. It costs 3 times the price of regular 119 so not sure if it's worth it. I don't think so.
