*Please Read. (SPECS below) Here is my quick set up and usage tips. One of my Freego, China Segways runs on 72 volts and have no stock lights. The others run on 36v, but do have their own lights.
I needed something quick and inexpensive to convert ½ of the 72 v battery of 36 volts to run 12 v LED Lights.
This Drok LM 2596 Buck Volt Regulator tells input voltage, output current, has a USB Charger, and works perfect. I do not typically read reviews when I do a project, so not to be biased. My findings are strictly my own. Sometimes I will read reviews after I make mine. In this case I did, and found one fellow said the case does not have the legs cut right. Okay, there are no instructions and the case is a puzzle. Each piece which is precision cut will only fit one way. So turning inside out, upside down, until you get it takes some patience. All complain there are no instructions, which is true, but if a person was going to use this, he would easily figure out from the picture and the printing of how to make it work. Hopefully my video will give you an insight of what you can do with this neat gadget that costs under $10.
DROK® LM2596 DC Buck Volt Regulator 36V to 24V 12V 5V 3.3V 3V Converters Constant Voltage & Current 5-36V to 1.25-32V 5A 75W
Parameters:
Input voltage : 5-36V
Output voltage :1.25-32V (continuously adjustable, default output 17V.)
Output Current : 5A MAX( Please use it within 4.5A)
Output Power: Max 75W ( Please use it within 50W. if the pressure difference is big,please reduce power)
Operating temperature: -40 to +85 ° C
Operating frequency: 180KHz
Conversion efficiency : up to 96%
Short circuit protection: Yes
Over temperature protection: (automatically shut off the output after over temperature)
Input reverse polarity protection: No, (if necessary, please in input
String into high current diode)
Installation: 4pcs 3mm screws
Wiring:(solder terminals) V-IN is the input, V-OUT is the output
Usage:
1. Use as an ordinary buck module with over current protection capabilities;
2. Use as a battery charger;
3. Use it as a constant current LED driver module.
Note:
1. If the module can not be adjusted, the output voltage is always equal to the input voltage." When you encounter this problem, please counterclockwise rotation of the potentiometer 10 laps or more, then you can adjust the output voltage. Because the factory default output voltage is 17V.
2.Module output terminal string has a current sampling resistor, there will be 0-0.2V voltage drop after connected to the load, it is a normal phenomenon.
3..If its output is more than 3A/35W, please enhance heat dissipation!
Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoyed the flights

I really enjoyed your video. For those that didn't know that the USB voltage was the same as the output voltage, when working with these little gems, buy yourself an inexpensive digital multi-meter and always check the input and output voltage before connecting devices. This little inverter works great for USB. I feed the USB to a 5 port device so I can charge multiple devices simultaneously. The 5 Volt D.C. output IS regulated to the voltage to which it is set.

what happends if you shortcircuit the output, and then power up the module? It still regulates on cc? for example, set current at 2 amp, when you short the output, it got to show 2 amp. If yo unplug and plugin the dc-dc converter, it still regulates at 2 amps?

I have a question, form the figure you showed in the film, is it correct, that I can set the Amps too? because I need to compress 14,8V into 5V but, I need around 3 Amps - is it correct, that I can set it like that? Do you know the maximum Amp it can produce? 5? 10? thank you very much in advance, sincerely Lasse

As the input voltage goes down, so does the output voltage, right? This requires you readjust the voltage screw manually. The are some voltage regulators that will maintain constant voltage.

Dave I notice when you had that battery plugged into the usb and you said it was charging, well it wasn't charging cause the blue light wasn't on only the green light was on. when the green light is in a solid state that means the battery is full and when the blue light is on without the green light being on, that means it's charging. I bought the same unit at DX and I thought the usb output was always going to be a regulated 5v output regardless of what output you choose to have by adjusting it with the volt potentiometer. I set my output voltage to 9v and checked out of curiosity how many volts was coming out of the usb port. I was shocked to find out 9 volts were coming out on the usb port. Then I raised it to 12v and the same thing happen. So dont use the usb port for charging your cell phone unless you have it set to 5v on the output meter. In other words the usb port will output what ever voltage you select to be the output on the meter. It's not separate from the reading you get on the output.

There are no knobs. At the beginning of the video, I show what each control does. There are 2 push button switches on the front. Pushing the one on the right changes readings. Push it to select voltage, then use the potentiometer screw on top left to adjust voltage. Push the button again and it changes reading to amps. Then use the right potentiometer screw to adjust amps.
