That horse is definetely funny. I think John Kricfalusi's inspiration for Mr Horse was the horse from this short.

That is something I've noticed with earlier Bugs Bunny cartoons is he was the villain or at least the antagonist a lot more than the hero.

Red Hot's horse is smarter than he is and yes, he's darn funny! As a kid, my favorite scene was when Bugs came with a telegram. Red Hot: "I sure what?!" Bugs: "STINK, Stupid, STINK!" Another bit of trivia: This is the 1st Bugs Bunny Looney Tunes, not counting the cameo in Porky Pig's Feat. And I believe it was a turning point for Looney Tunes in that they were all in color from this point on.

I liked how when the horse realized he was about to fall, it looks like his head went through his body. Also, I think this is the longest time a character tried to fight gravity in a Looney Tunes short.

That statement you mentioned about your school librarian not getting the humor of this cartoon is both baffling and unsurprising. Some grown ups just don't find the appeal in cartoons like that at all....or animation in general. Consoyvative, ain't dey?

Not so much conservative. My parents, especially my dad, got the jokes to many of these cartoons and explained them to me. He wasn't necessarily a fan, he just snuck a little education in. And it worked!

The different animator at 7:24 was not Izzy Ellis, it was Bob McKimson. And 7:34-7:59 was animated by Jack Bradbury.

This is the only Bugs Bunny "Looney Tunes" cartoon produced by Leon Schlesinger while he still working Bugs on Merrie Melodies

Leon left while this was in production. When this cartoon was made, there was no difference between LT/MM. Still isn't. Also, Leon produced BOTH the Looney Tunes AND Merrie Melodies simultaneously and there was never a time where he only made one and not the other.

I felt sorry for Red Hot Ryder. Bugs Bunny was so cruel to him in this WB Short. If Red Hot Ryder was a human being instead of a cartoon character, he would have been crying half way through the cartoon This poor, pint sized, dimwitted cowboy was no match for Bugs( The Masked Marauder) Bunny.
