The E,A,D strings are wound which basically are ridges. When you slide the edge of the pick on them it produces that sound. Also during some guitarist playing (live) you can hear the hand slide during chord changes. Also she used the pickup switch to simulate BH's kill switch. Tom Morello did it that way.

Soothsayer is one of my favorite guitar songs ever and she does a fantastic job playing it, my reaction was much like yours. if you want to hear some more great guitar, pull up "Regret #9" by Steven Wilson which is half synth solo and half guitar solo. and also pull up "Drive Home." Guthrie Govan is the guitar player on both songs and if you've never heard him you must.
