That sequence of notes doesn't originate from Black Sabbath. The "Devil's triad" comes from medieval times and was regarded as the "embodiment of Satan" in music, it's use was prohibited and seen as evil until the Classical era. Sabbath popularized it for a modern audience.
@Heinousness10 жыл бұрын

Actually the flatted 5th or by another name the augmented 4th has seen a great deal of use for a long, long time. But you are correct I believe the entire Locrian mode was frowned upon in the middle ages because of the dissident sounds derived from it. Dissidence equates to disobedience and thence to revolt against the accepted harmonious order hence satanism. (sounds like the old monks were a bit on the paranoid side) . And of course the flat five was/is used in minor blues all the time before Black Sabbath existed as the hexatonic, 6 note blues scale. The hex consists of the minor pentatonic scale plus the augmented 4th or flat five. Don't they also call that flat5 the blues note? Note: augmented 4th = Flat 5th

While potentially a shoutout/tease of Black Sabbath, those three notes are known as "diabolus in musica", because it was believed in the earlier stages of it's discovery that it invoked the devil when played. Sabbath knew it, and used it for their first real heavy song, with lyrics inspired from a dream Geezer Butler had about the Devil showing up at the foot of his bed while sleeping. Ozzy improvised the lyrics at first, it was really scary, and it got people's attention.

@MAGNEZABLE8 жыл бұрын
I dont think people understand what teasing means here.
@michaelmace9248 жыл бұрын
I was about to leave a comment along the same lines. You can tease anyone you want to, nobody can stop you from doing that, but when you're in the public eye and your signature is a KFC bucket on your head and a Phantom of the Opera-esq mask on your face it's in poor taste to tease someone who is obviously so far ahead of you when it comes to accomplishments and staying power. I mean Christ, Black Sabbath has been out over the past 5 decades and can still sell out an arena and their music still stands up today and sounds as fresh now as it did in 1970. Actually, I don't really see how or if he is teasing Black Sabbath. I think he is really just playing around or goofing off. I haven't really ever checked him or his guitar playing out till 10 mins ago. He's pretty talented. He probably has a lot of respect for Sabbath.
