There is something truly mesmerising watching these big machines pick up the food that ends feeding people and animals. The efficiency of the operation, the synchronicity between harvester, grain cart driver and truck drivers. I have nothing but utmost respect for farmers. I hope for a good 2024 harvest.

I’m surprised there’s nothing interesting farming-related happening in or around Norman, Oklahoma, which ironically I later found out that’s where my grandmother grew up

Great video as always Mike. Does terracing a field mean that drainage tiles are not necessary?
@farmhandmike6 ай бұрын
No on the field tile as they don’t use or need to tile the fields out here The terraces are for erosion control

Certainly different horizons than here in N. Central Ohio. Large combines are definitely in their element in these open areas. Are their machines all purchased in Pa. and trucked out west, or are some from the western areas ?
@farmhandmike6 ай бұрын
Not sure but on the combines but I remember seeing a Hoober sticker on one of the tractors

Do you know how many bushels per acre the yield was?
@farmhandmike6 ай бұрын
I believe lots of the wheat this year was making over 70 bushel per acre. Which is really good for this area figuring cattle grazed on it over the winter.
@jti20076 ай бұрын
Most farmers like to keep their yields private information unless they tell you personally. The yields this year are running higher than normal compared to the past several years. Timely rain helped this years crop.

just to confirm these machines are doing customer work? I am not from US so don't know the workings can someone confirm and if Yes do they work on hourly basis or per acre?

Good Evening/Morning Mike (Or anybody) What kind of Drone do you use to record these amazing videos on your channel. My family farm has been 5 generations and I am the only one out of the 5 that can use technology really good and I am considering to make videos on the farm for them. If you have the time to answer that would be great but if not I totally understand, Thank you!

Thanks and I have a few drones but this video here I used my DJI Mavic Air that is about 4 years old. It's been a pretty good drone. I just bought a Mavic 3 and used it some and it is pretty sweet.

Interesting offset on the duals of the Elmer's grain cart. I've never seen that before. What's the advantage.
@farmhandmike6 ай бұрын
It's a walking tandem row crop axle. This option provides a smoother ride across the field. Several grain cart manufacturers off this as an option.

Not keeping the straw?
@farmhandmike6 ай бұрын
Straw goes back into the ground for organic matter. Very little straw is baled in this area.

So is this Soft White Winter Wheat?
@Bowhunters6go8xz6x6 ай бұрын
Hard to say for sure but it looks like Red Winter Wheat as the wheat has a reddish tint to it you can see in the combines and grain carts. Red Wiinter Wheat has a reddish tint and White wheat has more of a lighter white color.

Why are the combines cutting such funny shapes? Is it because the way the grain is lying.
@farmhandmike6 ай бұрын
I mentioned it in the video. The second field had several terraces built in it and they have to cut with the terrace to get all of the crop.
