Mate I left my job at the lumber mill after 9 years because I love and wanted to be behind a axe and chainsaw. Been selling firewood for a year since I left my job. Love bukin wood, I'm running a ms660 and 034 atm but them old saws you run are amazing, must say. Love your work mate

I have done, what we call a poor man's handle. And use cross wedges and they will hold a very long time. When you have broken handle and you need the axe or hammer. You can make it work. Great job Billy. I have a hard epoxy I use to set my wedges.

I've done the same mistake on one of my axes, did pretty much what you did.. glued a piece of a busted handle and drove the wedge home.. that's 4 years ago, and it's still going strong. Good glue and the right fit works Magic..like a glove. Haha!! All the best to the Army, take care of one another and keep on being kind :)

I did a cross wedge on a 6# sledge. Mine was planned and I did a double kerf through the middle. My wedges were a bit aggressive and would pop out while hammering. Eventually I got all of them to stick, put two metal wedges in and it's holding up well so far.

Nice job, even I was a little bit nervous, with that cross wedge width. But as always you nailed it! I truly love the True Temper axes! I missed out on a fireman’s axe a couple years ago, a guy had a head for sale and I didn’t buy it because I wasn’t sure what I would do with it. And I had really just got in to axes, and then I found your channel I I got hooked! And now I kicked my self for not buying it. But oh well I will find one another day. No use crying over spilled milk. Love it here, thanks for all you do, and to everyone who helps you out here. Thanks to the Buckin army!! And all subscribers too!

I have a carpenter's hatchet head that I wanted to put a longer handle on, so I used a old axe handle and cut off to the desired length. The end result gave the it a curved handle (why I did it in the first place) but no shoulder which made it look more like a tomahawk on the head end. The eye however had the same situation as on this video except a little less than 1/4 gap. The solution was tapering a piece of 1/4 round metal stock and sending it 5 inches down along the handle which kept the head not only in place but provides protection under the beard of the axe from missed blows. I paracord wrapped that section so to cover up the work, provide further protection, and have a handle there too.

I'm a glass half full kind of guy, & try to find the beauty in everything. I've been on this earth for 36 years & have yet to see anything that is absolutely perfect (except my daughter😏) Everybody & everything has a flaw, & flaws make them different. I'm 100% sure that Jeff will get better with every axe he makes. I bet he will learn something new everytime, & become an amazing axe hafter. I'm excited to see him create, because with creation comes pride. He's a solid feller😉👍 STAY SAFE ALL

What’s the flame to the wood for? Is it to seal it up a little? Is it for looks? Is it to shrink it a bit before fitting the handle? Is it just a thing you do cause you like it?

Buck, glad you made that white wood wedge smaller as it was too big, but I'm surprised that you didn't use glue on the wider wedge piece? If your torch doesn't want to start just give a quick blow into the end of the nozzle end and it will start..I use that trick and it always works. Everyone have a super day/// (Robin)

BBR, as MANY Aussies ss you have for friends, I may be so bold as to suggest that you might learn, as a subskill, the manner in which THEY hang & wedge axes ?! Vids I’ve watched are quite fascinating in contrast to typical North American techniques!😁👍❗️

What do the Aussies do different?
@roycolglazier10614 жыл бұрын
Admitting that I only saw a few and that it WAS close to a year ago, and that I’m 74😂, what stuck in my mind was that a wedge is fashioned and the handle prepared with a 90deg difference from our practice. A gap is left at the top of the eye that’s then filled when the wedge is hammered in. I wish I could find a URL, but looking today was unproductive. My apology! It’s kind of similar, tho, to the manner that one of my Japanese hatchets uses. Be persistent, use uTube search, good luck!”
