Bucking the first log off the 7 footer What a monster!

This video is about bucking the first log off the seven footer. It was like cutting into a wall of wood. I cut some pretty big trees out there in some of these units. That being said, this one stood out just because of it's sheer size. The first log was a 21 foot ( 1 foot for trim ) by 62 inch diameter cut. In the scribner scale book that comes out to 3,610 board feet. Just as a reference point....an average log truck load of logs is approximately 5,000 board feet. The tree was not very tall for its size, but even with being short for its size....it still scaled out at approximately 11,000 board feet.

I didn't see any limbs on the 20' butt cut either. Not old growth but about as good as 2nd growth gets.

Wow. I'm curious: when a person comes to a woodlot to figure out what the wood is worth, do they do a similar calculation? Also, what is the minimum cc you'd use on a tree of that girth?? Hope you're having a gr8 day Dan.

Does this faller know or even care about what species this tree was. I can tell by the bark that it is either sequoia sempervirens or sequoiadendron giganteum. If you're going to cut them at least have some respect. And this tree is small.

If the fallers were ONLY TOLD TO CUT SEQUOIA then no matter which sub species, then the faller is only doing their job!

Considering it’s his living to cut by species yes I’m sure he knows that it is a coastal redwood
