I heard you talking about those mills. My first father in law was a little Swede from the old country. Worked a horse logging portable mill setup for years as the sawyer. HIm, the sawyer, the faller, the horse guy, and the off-bear. They had a slab kicker the last few years, before that they stacked the slabs. He told me once that they finished a patch, moved the mill, sawed up that set, moved the mill again and sawed one log. Three sets in one day!

Before my wife and I went in the saw mill business, My brothers and I were contracting masonry work ( about 17-18 years ). We had coffee every morning at our village cafe. There was a long table in there with 8 or 10 builders every morning. We all competed for work and bidding jobs agains’t each other. But we stayed friends and occasionally helped each other out ( especially in winter when work was slow ). The world was a much ‘kinder’ place 30-40 years ago. You’re logging stories remind me of nicer times in America ! Thanks... Gary and Carolynn sawmillin’ in Michigan.

Hey I'm a lefty to! Me and my brothers sawed a lot of lumber growing up with our dad on his circle mill. I am slowly putting my own circle mill together for myself now. My father actually just got his saw fired up the other day he has some big beams to mill up to make a new bridge across the brook on his lane way. I sure do miss logging with my dad and sawing on his mill. But I guess I just needed to go make my own way. By the time I was 19 I couldn't wait to get out of there and head west to become big time welder. Its only now that I get a bit older I start missing those simple old times. Maybe it's time to go back. I know my dad would love to have me there.

I'm super curious on what kind of magic you could do on my Pioneer p42hp bc of Billy Ray I own a pioneer 650 and then found my p42 locally in Pennsylvania. Pioneer's will be my favorite saw manufacturer.. I really enjoy seeing the faces of my friends with their fancy new Stihl's when I out buck them. I hope to one day own the P38 :D
