I wish Bucks Fizz was more of a success in the USA back in the 80’s! I heard of them over 40 years ago but only bc I was a Radio DJ in Ohio at the time and we received their records in the mail. We weren’t supposed to air their songs bc it was against station policy….however I played them anyway and listeners really liked their sound🤗👍
@btchnotme15873 ай бұрын
Despite being right in the middle of the so-called “Second British Invasion” from 1981 to 1985/86, Bucks Fizz was considered “too British” to catch on in America. Their only song that received an official American release was “The Land Of Make Believe” and it flopped, didn’t even chart.
@80sandretrogubbins253 ай бұрын
It's not surprising they didn't catch on. I just have trouble seeing Americans going in for Buck's Fizz.

This is far, far, far better than anyone dared to admit at the time. In particular, musically 3:06 to 3:11 honestly gave me goosepimples as a kid. Wonders I think Mike said he thought it was released too early in their career, but Cheryl kinda argued that if it had been released later, it probably wouldn’t have been a big hit cos their fans had moved on by then. I think they all had kind of a love-hate relationship with MYMU cos while it shot them to fame, it made credibility difficult cos everyone kinda expected their following hits to be in the same style. Land of Make Believe was a real turning point for them, One Of Those Nights didn’t do so well, but Land put them right back at the top. Totally agree re ‘80s, no decade like it. I don’t even follow today’s charts, such as they are, don’t know any of the tracks on Now compilations!

@mickfizz110 жыл бұрын
The only ''proper'' Bucks Fizz was only when 4 of the original members of the band were still singing and recording together in the 1980's That is, with either Jay or with Shelley. Once both of them were gone, it was then Mike, Cheryl and Bobby only for a short time as the ''real'' Bucks Fizz. Having only one original band member does not make the band authentic or proper!

Cheryl, Mike and Jay continued as a trio in the early 90s on the cabaret circuit, Butlins etc even releasing a live album for their tenth anniversary. Cheryl left in ‘93 to have her children, then Mike and Bobby continued for a while with various line ups. It’s all a bit complicated, look on Wikipedia lol.
