Much as I love this track...sometime in about 1983 I met up with Trevor Horn, (we weren't close friends but would get together to compare notes) and he asked me what I'd been up to and I played him a rough mix of this track. I asked what he'd been up to and he played me a rough mix of "Owner of a Lonely Heart" that he'd done with YES. I immediately made the decision NOT to be a producer and just write songs because I knew I couldn't ever compete with someone who was that good.

Cheryl mentioned in a Facebook live chat a while back that Jay fell ill during the recording of the video, so the second half as seen here with the white backdrop had to be shot quickly to meet the deadline, and differed from the planned continuation of the storyline. Wonder what happened in the original storyline then, more sp 👀 ky goings on? 👻 A prologue would’ve been good to set the scene too. Wonder where that Chums magazine came from. I love that the first verse lyrics are quite simple and straightforward then the second verse is a bit more intense, almost like a different song. Then it takes a moment to realise what the middle eight is on about, clever.

*actual real story of how I found this song among several others* I went to explore an abandoned house with my partner because it sounded fun, and while looking for any other interesting stuff aside from broken plates, abandoned coats and suitcases, bottles of medicine and crates full of jars, I stumbled upon 2 small, old cassettes with the tape all out and tangled. We lifted some of the bricks, pulled out the tape and then rolled it all up and straightened it out so it would be possible to listen to them. I looked at what was written on one of them, and one of the many song names was “Run For Your Life”. Of course, I yelled, looked back at the house and we ran away. Fast forward a few months, we finally found a working cassette player and tried them out. The first one was empty, but the second one had all these songs on it. We actually liked them and tried to find the songs on youtube. Eventually, we found this video and enjoyed the song in better quality. So, thanks to whomever abandoned that cassette and helped us discover Bucks Fizz
