They say never meet your Heroes .. I remember meeting this brother in a NYC nightclub and I complemented him on his music and how Black Moon kept me connected to culture while serving in the military overseas. He tried to get me jumped by Onyx. I was like wow .. I don't have any beef .. I was a big fan! That experience will never diminish the memories associated with hearing his music for the first time and the fact he was from my neighborhood makes it more profound.

You should make an effort to own physical copies of your music! Paying a subscription fee to streaming platforms is no more than renting your music. What if Spotify, Tidal, Qobuz, Pandora, etc., suddenly stopped streaming, or their servers crashed? What if an artist decides to pull their entire catalog from all streaming platforms? How are you going to listen to that artist's music with no cd, vinyl, or cassette? I still have over 90% of every cd I ever purchased, going all the way back to the 90s.
@the_shadow_healer
@the_shadow_healer 2 ай бұрын
that part, artists are lazy they expect a company to literally create a physical product, market it, supply it, etc...but then the artist wants full control and all the money, sorry but business doesn't work that. Every artist should learn how to be independent, make physical copies of their own music as a direct to consumer product.

@the_shadow_healer I can agree, but as an independent artist myself, it is easier said than done. The market is saturated with bedroom producers on SoundCloud and other streaming platforms, and the majors also control distribution. Many, many talented people simply do not have the connections or the deep pockets to get real promotion and distribution. I myself am only able to produce so many cd copies with my limited budget, and I have to rely more on word of mouth and social media to raise awareness of my singles and releases (again, real promotion costs real money).
@the_shadow_healer
@the_shadow_healer 2 ай бұрын
@@ssjlkrillin I agree but it can be done look at LaRussell out in California. He literally created an experience for people to watch, attend, and invest in. Nowadays creativity wins, yes it will be hard starting out but once it gets rolling sky is the limit. No LaRussell sells out everywhere he travels. There are a lot of artists who took the independent route but it's a lot of work to protect your own intellectual property. Social media nowadays is the best thing that happened for artists, they have a direct to consumer pipeline if its built the correct way.

i don't know about that. Much of the recordings had backups and you can bet most of the recordings were bad takes and poor songs. Those are important for deceased artists like a Buddy Holly, whose life got cut short, so those were all that they had from him. Many others were small labels acquired by them with shelved artists, although some could have been popular artists first recordings, under other names or as background singers. as long as they were all put on a quality CD at some point in time, not much was lost.

You know Sis we are the minority, personally I hate being in a car when somebody is playing there playlist…I’m a child of the 70’s & I think the radio kinda helped us out a lot growing up…just one example was everytime we would travel with our parents for 6 hours in the car going from Norfolk Virginia to Winston Salem North Carolina sometimes the station would go out & my Dad would turn the dial to get a clear station…sometimes you had to just listen to crap that you didn’t like whether it was country music, rock or a guy preaching but over the years you learned something outside of your own box or world…also I prefer “ SOMETIMES “ to listen to the radio when out of town to hear what’s going on in the area & the local happenings….a persons playlist will be redundant in my opinion like How many times during a 6 hour car ride can you tolerate Cardi B, Sexy Red, etc etc…..I’ve been in cars several times & was thinking to myself “ PLEASE turn on the radio “ I love my 90’s underground hiphop from NYC but I don’t wanna listen to it for 6 hours straight…I wanna hear some Sade, some good Jazz, oldschool Soul music, 80’s pop, etc etc

There has to be a way for artists to sell directly to the fans. Maybe a new app where you actually had to pay for an album before you could stream it.

Buckshot sounds smart to people who are ignorant about business and how how media works. Every single Media Platform and Medium outlet backbone is Advertising. The SOLE reason we have different TV Stations, Radio Stations, Music genres, Different magazines, etc is so ADVERTISERS can target their customer better... So as long as people USE the Medium platforms, VIEW the media content/Shows, LISTEN to songs, become a Paid member/subscriber, etc.etc these platforms will always exist. People been saying Radio was going extinct for 80 years when TV came out in the early 1940's... These Celebrities got people believing that a medium/platform go away because of the Celebrities or the FAIR Business Practice is clueless about business and the media. It was never designed for the TALENT to make the money, but the Owners, Producers, Executives, Shareholders. Streaming makes money for the company, not the Talent

Preach, Buckshot... I been talkin' 'bout this steroidal privatization for over 20 years 'cause even then - you could see the trajectory was such that before long you were gon' half to pay somebody to even take a step as a result of all these behind closed doors, winkin' n' handshakin' moguls buyin' up real estate e'rywhere. The same concept is transcendental in other industries; especially music. The fight is always over ownership of intellectual property and who gains the far reaching residuals of said property. We gotta go back underground due to the wildly unbridled and pervasive infiltration of our spaces.

What's on streaming platforms is usually on KZbin. What's on KZbin can be downloaded to .mp3. What's on .mp3 can be stored where ever the one downloading it wants it to be.

Buckshot is one point...i seen the change remember when "Napster" first came on the scene.....music artist was frantic cuz what "Napster" did was allow music lovers to pay a subscription & you can download hundreds songs files on your desktop or cellphone playlist ....it took away the artist royalties from purchasing vinyl & cds sales. Fast forward....nowadays its platforms like "Spotify", "Last FM","I Heart Radio", "Apple Music" & so on ....streaming music today is our norm ...i seen it coming rhe death of physical album sales to cloud based music rentals...... 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

I've seen standard deals that are considered "fair" for an unknown artist. The split is usually 80% label 20% artist/song writer. A lot of artists aren't getting the 20% for various reasons, from poor business decisions or ignorance.

I never saw the sense of any streaming service while you can still buy CDs and DVDs, rip them yourself, and play the ripped media anywhere you want and you own it.

It's about trend's,soon as something comes out and it looks good or makes life easier,most people will hop on it and hold on to it for dear life. But I refuse to get rid of my physical copies of music even though I downloaded hundreds of albums, physical is way better than Internet and sounds better than Internet.
