Bucky is not just dead, they dismembered his corpse, lol. Any of the 3 changes probably would have pushed the card to only fringe playability. To where the card would have been closer to fair than oppressive. But changing all 3? That's killing it 3 times, haha. I think the *best* change would have simply been to change the cost to 3, and leave the rest the same. It would have still been a playable card at 3, but much, much slower, and would have prevented a lot of the turn 2/3 explosive openers that the deck is capable of.

In my opinion, this is the absolute worst thing they could do. Now we ensure the barrier to entry for new players has a steep ass learning curve, AS YOU HAVE TO MEMORIZE A LIST OF CARD WORDING CHANGES. They made a damn rule for ban lists. Just ban the fucking card.

@@6thface To be fair, if the card is banned you need to have outside knowledge of it as well. There is more to remember here, but they killed this card so badly that nobody would ever play it in the first place, so ironically your concern I do not expect to be a problem. (At least for this card specifically.)

Discard effects being completely miserable to play against are a big part of why WotC is careful to never print a full discard deck into the Standard format. I think Ravensburger will regret emphasizing discard so heavily for Emerald.

Absolutely NUCLEAR nerf, wow. I’m just shocked they didn’t say he’s banned as opposed to making the card unusable. For all intents and purposes they banned him but just made it all more confusing for everyone involved, lol. But here’s the thing, right: It’s 100% not about results or power, it’s just about design. I was shocked that they printed so many discard cards so early in the game’s life because discard is unanimously the most hated mechanic in any TCG. Not playing your cards isn’t fun. So after seeing what the deck was like to play against, they obviously agree that it’s not healthy for the game. Not in the fact that it’s too strong but just in the fact it’s NOT FUN. I think banning him only affects competitive players, and they want casual players to have fun so him being used in casual would turn away some of those players. I don’t think they had to go this hard in the paint tho.

I couldn't agree more re: the design considerations. Lorcana is supposed to be a streamlined, accessible game for people who may not normally play TCGs, so it's absolutely baffling to me that they let it rip with a FULL discard archetype literally like 2 sets into the game's lifespan. It's miserable to play against. Prince John having Ward makes it even worse. Such a powerful card draw engine in such a toxic archetype should NEVER be immune to targeted removal.

They really didnt have to touch bucky at all, what they need to do is add mass removal or mass damage to other colors. If they did that we would see a lot more color combos.

Why is everyone complaining it should have been a ban? An errata is the same as ban if they plan to reprint the card anyways. A ban would still be the same hurdle for new players as an errata. Also he will likely see no real competitive play until far down the road when the reprints are available

They went too far for the nerf, just changing to the Shift cost to discard a card was enough. It's still an uncommun, so don't need to make him a T3 to make it come later. And Ward was ok to give room to at least make his ability take effect one or two turn before being dealt by the opponent. I am glad they actually answered quickly for that anyway.

How is someone other then steel going to answer bucky if he's never exerted? Only other option is late game ruby be prepared or sisu unless you're lucky enough to clear the board and use Tremaine or king undisputed

@@dared-6018 Ward isn't the oppressive ability of Bucky. If he has the ability to stay on the board long enough to proc is ability that's okay. The annoying one is the discard ability that get triggered easily that fast and multiple time and early in the game ! Letting the opponent the time to find solutions is what players wanted. Ruby has answers with BP or BKU or Sisu that can arrive earlier with shift or songs like under the sea in emerald.

I honestly would have prefered a ban or limit to 2 per deck or something. I mean this is the same as a ban except the card can still be used haha. I wouldnt go near this card but am excited that all my promo bucky cards are rising in cost as i have 3/4 other decks i enjoy more anyways

I wonder if Blue fairy will also be nerfed? Wish they had waited until the end of the challenge season so all events were equal. Bochum it was not even dominate. I think changing ward and or cost was enough. Or as you and others mentioned they could have made some cards that had positive effects when discarded and not changed the wording from the printed card. 5 cards one of each color type that is not Emerald and everyone who bought all the cards to build a deck could still play it. In this scenario your opponents would have answers and if this synergy can backfire it would change the decision. I hate in other games having to reference the internet in a timed game or have to call a judge to let your opponent know how the card works now regardless of its printed text. I built all the decks and all of the really great cards in that deck will always be used in other decks just a waste practicing with a top deck for the challenge to have to start over with a different deck :/

Bucky might very well be dead but the existence of ink-cost-free shifts he might just find a home in a different deck. Lemon/lime, Turn 1 Diablo, turn 2 Ursula, turn 3 Bucky+shift in both Diablo and 4 drop Ursula who quests. That's 3 discards on turn 3, one of them your choice plus an active Diablo. This is very dream scenario but at least shows Bucky isn't fully useless in his new form. Just not gross "no matter what" like he is now

I’m cool with errata’d vs bans. But this was 2 changes too many imo. If set 5 has cards that would make Bucky even more over the top, then this makes sense. For now though it seems like an overreaction

This has been controversial, but I'm very happy they addressed Bucky in some way. It made the game unfun to play and limited deckbuilding and viability of certain decks. Very curious to see how Set 5 looks like without Bucky and the new set.

Also what does this mean for Ursula Championships? is it also into effect immediately? What if players who are not aware of this bring BUCKY and opponent chooses to take into account the errata updates. Remember casual players also assist these events.

Does this mean all the existing "error" copies of Bucky are unplayable? In my opinion, this is the worat thing they could do. Now, you have to memorize an error list and all the corrections to play Lorcana. Furthermore, removing ward or raising the cost would have made Bucky unplayable. Doing both ruins the card entirely, and you come on just dancing on the cards grave. They should have just banned the damn card. Now, they are going down a dark dark path of rewording any card that people piss and moan about.

Great decision. doesnt matter if it gets erratad to a very high extent or banned because the outcome is the same: competitively irrelevant. Erratas are fine, the text on the physical card doesnt matter anyways, only the text and rulings in the database/companion app. this wasnt an issue for surfer stitch as he got printed with only 1 lore in Germany. Everyone knew about it and caused no problems whatsoever.

I am happy with the change but I really think they should have just banned Bucky and created a new card that is this form of Bucky. Trying to errata something this heavily is really a digital card game thing. Drastically changing what cards do in a physical card game is awkward for obvious reasons

This was bad. Errata is bad. Especially when you do that much to the card. This is going to do nothing it cause problems for new players that don’t know about the errata. Especially if there is no reprint of the card on the way. They should have just taken the L and banned the card. FFG did this with several cards in Star Wars Destiny and all it did was cause problems and ultimately the game failed.

Well I think the real reason is that with more floodborns coming it was going to be too oppressive...but it is basically a banning with how much they gutted him. Yea GS isn't good enough to ban currently.
