This chick is so beautiful. All white fluff. So different from other eaglets. Just beautiful and such a lucky chick to have a great set of parents to care and nurture her/him. So endearing to watch. I must admit, Lady Hawk, you do turn up everywhere. And, I am so grateful that you do!! I love watching our sweet chatty baby's crop go from flat to full, it's a marvel that it's so stretchy, and amazing that it's fast flat again quickly due to baby's magnificent high metabolism!👏 I Iove this little family with joy and wonder, they fill me with tenderness. I'm so glad they're on the curriculum, Ladyhawk! Thank goodness their season is different from the American birdies or we might miss out. As crazy as this sounds, they can fly carrying prey that weigh as much as they do. The females weigh up to 15 or so pounds; the males are smaller, up to about 10.pounds. so that fawn was probably more than 1/2 mom's weight when she took it. It is fawning season for the deer, so venison is on the menu.

These GE ‘s are large predators. They are very capable of taking down small animals like young fawns. The location of this nest was described as being in a wilderness area. This is at least the 4 th deer seen on camera that it has fed the eaglet and eaten itself. There is no way 4 deer all happen to be road kill; it just doesn’t make sense in a wilderness area. Certainly it’s possible some other predator also killed some of the deer but it appears this is a favorite and abundant prey for this eagle. These are small deer , it’s not like it is preying on white tail deer or large bucks with 4-6 point racks. It’s obviously the time of year or season there where young fawns are being birthed and are plentiful and this eagle is proficient at hunting them.
