It's always the Dads that make sure the youngest is fed. I think that is why when something happens to the dads the youngest usually dies. I've watched a lot of nest cameras and the Dads are the best for providing to all the babies.
@sassabird2507 Жыл бұрын
I tend to agree. Dads often pick up the slack to ensure survival of their offspring since moms usually like to do most of the feedings and practice “first come, first served” policy. And since many eagle ladies are quite bossy, it’s especially nice to see the dads stepping up and not shying away from the feeding duties.

@sassabird2507 Жыл бұрын
Well, this is how it usually goes among bald eagle nestlings…One of them, mostly the older one and especially if it’s a female, exerts dominance over the younger ones. It sure looks tough and can be distressing, but there’s one certain good thing coming out of it - the youngest eaglets usually obtain very good survival skills which serve them well in later years 😇 Both Fern and Thunder thrived and fledged ❤️ For example, among raptors like Lesser Spotted Eagles, the oldest almost always will kill it’s younger sibling, it’s just how it is in the wild. Sorry for taking so long to respond, taking a break from my YT channel. Anyway, it’s good that the choice is left with us - we can take a break from livestreams whenever they become too much emotionally 😇

@sassabird25072 жыл бұрын
I think, siblicide is more common among eagles. And mostly it is caused by lack of food. There was one a bit scary moment in March whith a longer interval between feedings due to bad weather. The older eaglet got the most agressive he/she had been, but all was resolved as soon as the food came 😇 Thankfully, food has been plentiful here. All in all, I would say that the level of sibling agression was nowhere near as high as I have seen in many other bald eagle nests 😅
