We were just there for 5 days (a week before the flooding). Was our second time in Budapest. What a beautiful city and we had a great weather too. took the boat ride back from Visegrad to Budapest. I am wondering what happened to the little inhibited islands on Danube. Sending prayers to Hungary for a speedy recovery.

I was in Budapest just before NYE 23/24 and immediately following a rapid snow melt that resulted in the river flooding. This surpasses anything I’ve seen before. From Dubrovnik sending wishes for river levels to rapidly drop again soon.

The lower quay is designed to be under water when the Danube rises to this level. As you can see, we enjoy the spectacle, together with tourists. People create (or copy) clickbait, fear-mongering videos. There may be problems elsewhere in the country and especially in more mountainous neighboring countries. In Budapest, undeniably people who work with the sewage system and such will need to do overtime, but no real danger to the city.

@@colleen4062 IT Will be ok. Those roads were designed for the flood. Whenever the water is coming they are under water. There are some metro station closed next to the Danube. They need to be protected against water pressure. They use special heavy wagons for that.
