@@suzy6378 if you walk around the broken down areas, like this fine guy has shown you, you can find hidden treasures. For example I've shown a tourist the area beside Danube to the north of Árpád híd on the Buda side. It has a long wall covered with fine graffities, and inside that old industrial area there is a hidden pub with a stage where small bands play. This city rewards exploration.

I lived in Budapest for 3 years at the end of the 90's and it was absolutely fantastic. I had an apartment just of Vaci Ut at the Erzsebet Bridge end, just behind the Marriot. I cried like a baby on the plane when I left for the last time. I have such wonderful memories. I do re-visit every few years though, so have seen many changes over the years from the 90's. ( i.e. it's SO expensive now ).

Hey there! There are no exact boundaries but I would say your friends should be fine at that hotel. Towards Bajcsy-Zsilinszky road the subway is close and it's conveniently located. There are a few clubs on Nagymező street closeby, but that can be easily avoided by going the other way 😊

Very useful video, even if you have been to Budapest before. Of course , you are right, the way to melt a Hungarian's heart is to try to speak the language, even if you mispronounce it. We loved the contrast of the amazing architecture and the apparenly run down buildings but were delighted to see what some of the inner courtyards looked like, totally different from the exteriors. We have stayed on a number of occasions on Dohány u, and it is surprising how easy it was to avoid the noise, which tends to concentrated in pockets around the area. The great thing about Budapest is that, whilst it can sometimes get a little lively, I've never seen it rowdy or threatening. Keep those videos coming!

i was in hungary for about 2 months and had really good friends and people to teach me about hungary and hungarians. Theres still so much I dont know, and maybe will never be able to fully understand, but one thing i came to understand and love/respect is the pride hungarians have for being...hungarian. The language, their values and their true history, teaching foreigners about their towns (I loved Vesprem and Györ especially) and the ABSOLUTE patience with us, especially americans. It was hard for me asnan american to figure out how to be mellow on public transport and watch first, learn first and insert my opinion later; but I have to say that it was so beautiful. Hungary is full of strong, funny, widly diverse people who are so hospitable and kind, just jump in and be open to learning and being embarresed once in a while 😂 its so much more than budapest and goulash (though both are amazing ofc)

Hi Akos! Just came back from a lovely tour of your country last week. Thank you for your explanation about "Hungarian Mentality", or else i would be shocked to have experienced a seemingly "cold" service from some of the restaurants and shops we visited. I don't intend to demean but the gap seems obvious when compared to other countries like Japan where customer service seems top notch most of the time. had wonderful meals at Busulo Juhasz (means Sad Shepherd the waiter said?) and Csalánosi Csárda. spent only 3 days in Budapest and there's so much more to see. Would very much like to go back. Keep up the great work!
@StuffedCabbageAdventures
@StuffedCabbageAdventures Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! :) Búsuló Juhász (yep, the Sad Shepherd :)) and Csalánosi Csárda are both well established old restaurants. While the food may be good, they are being ran in old ways which is why you'll surely experience the service being what I tried to explain in the video. Luckily we see more and more restaurants which are being managed by young enthusiastic people where the service will be more pleasant, but they usually aren't typical Hungarian restaurants, more like new wave or focusing on other cusines. Btw, service in Japan is indeed superb, not many places in the world can compete with that :D

A great city, with beautiful people, and for its monoculture. I have been visited the country, the city capital more specifically, for the last couple of years and I am reminded how people are very welcoming, hospitable and friendly. They may seem to look pessimistic but on the whole, people do want to help you and guide you if you give them the opportunity. It also helps to say a few words in Hungarian and they gravitate to the effort you put in in some part, feel part of the local customs. There are some noticeable differences that I can see from afar: - You can see many mature or older Hungarian workers working in supermarkets/food grocery shops. In other parts of the world, this kind of work industry is dominated much more by younger workers. This industry is seen as only a stepping stone to more well-paid, or advanced job industries. I guess it is difficult due to age and how much can changing to another job can give you a better quality of life. - It quite strictly enforces ticket validation at public transportation stops. In other places, you have ticket officers, or police travelling on the transport to inspect everyone's valid ticket - They're very likely to help you, guide you, speak to you, assist you. In another story, someone contrasted their Hungarian experience to Germany whereby people are unlikely to go out of their way to help you as much. Hungarians are more easy-going. - It's not a society that's corporate or money driven. It doesn't want appear to be a clean or wealthy Scandinavian country. It has a lot of shopping malls. People have to get by with their livelihoods and life. They don't seem to aspire or desire materialistic goods to the detriment of themselves and their family and friends. - Mostly everyone lives in high-rise density apartment buildings. Some districts can offer a car park beneath the building. Some have outdoor balconies. Although living outside the city or regional towns or areas, people can experience single houses, it would be a sea change for the average Hungarian to experience a stand-alone house with car driveway to park their vehicle in front of their home with fencing.

Hey there! Summers in Hungary tend to be hot. Not as bad as Spain or Turkey gets these days, but Climate change does not escape Budapest either, it can stay well above 30C for several days (like now), but it's mostly dry and not humid. Sometimes a few thunderstorms may occur and bring a bit of fresh air, but not for long. However the city can still be enjoyed in these circumstances. Regarding rhinities medicine, some medication is available over the counter and some require prescription, it depends on the contents, potency etc. You'll surely find something if needed, pharmacy staff can always help :)

I haven't been to Hungary for a very long time, but I know the country well and this is an excellent video. Knowing a few words of Hungarian goes down very well, and I think it's good he touched upon the issue of Hungarians being not very happy, I have noticed that while many Hungarians are very friendly and helpful there are others who are utterly cold and unfriendly, the country has a very high suicide rate. Also yes Budapest is an expensive place.

Hi,I'm going to visit Budapest for the first time this October. I can not decide where to stay. I have 2 choices :1. an apartment near Batthyany ter on Buda side and 2. an apartment near Deak Feranc ter on Pest side. I am a 65 years old solo traveler. I am not a party guy. I love to walk around and take pictures of places in the morning and at night . This trip may be the only time I visit Budapest ,so I would like this trip to be an impressive trip. To your experience, please kindly share your opinion on where I should pick to stay. Thank you very much .

Hey there! Perhaps if you are looking for some more peace, the apartment near Deák tér may be more ideal. The only downside is that you'll need to take the public transport each day to access the attractions on Pest side, but since Batthyány tér has a subway station, that should not be a major issue. Deák tér is close to the party district, it is lively during the night, which can be interesting even if someone doesn't like to party, but perhaps because of this the Buda side apartment may be a better place to rest 😊

It's safe, it's further away from the party scene. It's a recently renovated square that's nice but also hasn't got much going on so not many reasons for party people to hang out there 😊

Very good video - I saw some of your other videos too and liked them also. Good filming and sound. One thing I want to say is that Budapest is a vegan paradise for me! You must imagine that all foreigners who come to Budapest do not necessarily live in a capital city with lots of vegan restaurants and shops all over the place (as myself). According to the website HAPPY COW, there should at least be 32 restaurants which are 100 % vegan and if you ad veg options and vegetarian, it takes you up to around 230 places in Budapest, so that's not bad at all.
@StuffedCabbageAdventures
@StuffedCabbageAdventures Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I agree, from a different perspective the vegan/vegetarian scene isn't that bad in Budapest, its getting better and better, few years ago it was difficult to find good quality vegan places, now its more common. I was comparing it to western metropolises, but we aren't that far behind actually if I really look at it now :)

Hey there! Budapest isn't that huge and public transport makes things smooth and easy but also a lot of things can be easily reached by walking :) So anywhere near Deák Ferenc tér which is like a transport hub with multiple subways, buses and trams crossing it would be a good spot. Regarding programs for kids, Margaret Island can be nice with the buggy-cycles to ride or when weather is good there is the Palatinus beach with pools and slides. Városliget city park has a large playground and there is the House of Music which is interactive and kids also enjoy that place. There is also a nice playground with slides next to Gellért hill. Or one very cool place is the Pinball museum, where you can play on many antique pinball and other arcade machines for hours (no coins needed, just an entry ticket and can stay there as much as you like :)) I hope these can give some ideas for you and your family :)

Hey there! In the central areas and places that have frequent tourist visitors and areas of interest, you should not have any issues 😊 just note that while the community of people of color have been steadily growing in recent years thanks to multinational companies hiring expats, it's still a bit more rare for people to see Africans, so perhaps someone may turn their head on the street, but it's mainly because of them not being used to this. Overall, you shouldn't have any issues 😊

As a Canadian who has visited Budapest 3 times, this was really good. I went twice about 8 years ago and then last year, I didn't expect the prices to have gone up so much, especially as it seems the pay for locals hasn't gone up to match. So a lot of stuff seems like it only exists for tourists to afford.

It may be a bit difficult to do upfront since there are always special service routes established for the GP which are not available throughout the year. The official website usually details these routes shortly before the GP Weekend, and is normally straightforward with special Buses connecting the Race Track with some major Train or Suburban Train Stops. But we'll see what we can do :)

I feel I should add that if you come to Budapest with €£$, the little exchange places in the centre have always been correct and decent in my experience over many years. So much the case that when I was travelling on to Prague I preferred to get a little Cz cash at Nyugati station rather than risk the dodgy Prague outlets.
@StuffedCabbageAdventures

Indeed, the only exchange place to be avoided is the ones at the Airport, those have terrible conversion rates. I also exchange my money in the city center before traveling abroad and never had an issue :)
