So much food in the Budapest market!! What is your favorite Christmas market food? A shame I had the cold tunnel cake that my husband ate in the end 😆🎄

St. Stephen’s Basilica and Vörösmarty square are the best Christmas Markets in Budapest. Other noteworthy recommendations for visitors are a stroll down the decorated Andrassy avenue, and the massive ice skating rink beside Heroes’ Square. And defo don’t buy food anywhere NEAR those markets 🤣

Wish we could’ve tried the ice skating rink! 😄

One tip: NEVER buy anything from Christmas markets in Budapest! I am saying this as a hungarian. They are disgustingly overpriced even for tourists. If You want to eat more and more authentic hungarian food for way less money. Just find a local smaller restaurant or Lángos stands far away of these markets. These markets are NOT representing the true heart of hungarians. Traditional lángos has only garlic souce, "tejföl" (sour cream) and trappista cheese. OG Chimney cakes are covered with sugar and cinnamon only. Ice cream versions are BS. Just for tourists and for their money... Traditional goulash is a SOUP and served in a bowl of ceramic. NEVER in breadbowl, another tourist BS thing. Our well known "tourist cakes" are Dobos, Sacher and so on are plain and nothing special! Ask for "Years winner" cakes like Őrség zöld aranya. Now those are delicious and special. Rétes (Strudels) filled with poppyseeds, túró (NOT cottage cheese), and apple are the traditional ones. If I could cut and edit videos as a pro, there will be already an eye opener video for tourists about the real, great foods and potentials of this country. It would be a well hated video too by markets and popular overpriced BS places. But I do not care, as I said it before, they are not representing Us, Hungarians. Loved Your video, keep up the greatness and have a peaceful, healthy warm Christmas time.

This is the case at every Christmas market in Europe. In Berlin, Warsaw, Rome everywhere. There are cheaper and more expensive places everywhere...

Hi! Thank you for your comment! Funny that you mention it, we got this exact same tip from a local Hungarian friend. However, we really wanted to try the market food to compare it with Graz, Vienna, and other Xmas markets we visited. And you're right, Budapest Xmas market food was definitely the most expensive! But I still enjoyed my langos 😋 What restaurants would you recommend for next time?

The food wasn't bad, but it was overpriced.

Less 40% of Hungarians have no money and food at this time. So be quiet!

Yeah, and they don't even have access to Google Translate to write a grammatically correct comment. 🤫
