I actually love the top end on the big Rat, it makes it sound more "in your face." So I think that would be my choice. However I think the little Rat might be a more versatile pedal, I can see why people would like less of that top end sizzle. PS: I loved the video and the overall tones, that Mesa and Gibson combo is killer.

I haven't had a rat before and just got the lil' rat. It sounds good, and different to my other fuzz and overdrive pedals. But the the problem is that the filter makes such a massive difference to the sound, and you are moving it a half a mm with those tiny knobs to dial in the sound.

I have the little bear RAT clone with 3 modes and it is a great pedal. I alwaya get a good usable tone with it. Great for soloing over the normal channel of my AC30.

Thanks for the video, great job. Would you mind me asking if the Rattler is the lowest noise out of these 3 pedals? I’ve owned the Bigger Rat 2 like you have in this video and I sold it because I play a telecaster and the added noise was a little too much. I don’t like using noise gates but I’m not opposed to all noise either. I have and love a Keeley Super Phat Mod and that can get noisy to but it’s easier to control than the rat 2 was. Any opinion you might have would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and take care

I reckon the old rats battery out gives it a smoother sound to that of the little which doesn't have a battery so it has more circuit thus more bite , i wouldn't call it sparkle , bitey the lil one is ,

The new small Rat sounds like the original 'Big Box Rat'. The most versatile is the Zander Pedals Cranium. It has 6 knobs ...3 give you the classic Rat and the other 3 cover every mod anyone has done. Instead hardwiring or a switch you can blend in the other sounds. Very, very impressive and it is in standard 'Hammond 'B' box too. Its $200.00 USD Thanx for the comparison. I have the old original and the Rat II you just demoed. Actually I see no point in refining the pedal. We all have several OD's that do that, The charm of the Rat is its coarse unruly sound that has incredible breadth. The gourmet Rat pedals tighten it up but they also thin the sound.
