Buddhism in Uganda- Africa. Alms Round (Pindapata) - An Ancient Tradition in Buddhism

Under the guidance of Bhante Buddharakkhita, Monks and Nuns at the Uganda Buddhist Centre went on an alms round within Bulega village. Their mindful steps with the alms bowls reminds us of our journey to liberation.

For all ugandans if you give with the tought " i give this to the theravada sangha" then the merit is as like giving to the lord Buddha, is higher merit, and if you share that merit to all devas, and beings it is even higher, like saying "i dedicate this merit to all devas and deities".

Actually before Buddha, Indians who followed other sects used to curse people who didn’t give them alms, people feared them and gave out of fear of being cursed. They used to say,”bhiksham Dehi” and harrass people. Read nonBuddhist texts, and you will see how Lord Buddha reformed and civilized this tradition. Lord Buddha taught people to only give those who are worthy and Buddhists Bhikkus can never get angry or treat others badly even if they are abused. Also Buddhists cannot go around asking. They walk silently and tell the benefits of giving.
