Buddhism: No Self - Impermanence - Emptiness.
#buddhism #noself #emptiness
If you were to ask people familiar with Buddhism to identify its two most important wisdom teachings, they’d probably say emptiness and the four noble truths. If you were to ask them further which of the two teachings was more fundamental, they might hesitate, but most of them would probably put emptiness first, on the grounds that the four noble truths deal with a mental problem, while emptiness describes the way things in general are.
It wasn’t always this way. The Buddha himself gave more importance to the four noble truths, and it’s important to understand why.

@@EgoPodcastenglish You're very welcome! 🙂 Would it be possible for you to do a video on the Buddhist view of animals? Someone recently asked me if Buddhists believe that animals are 'looked down upon' by Buddhists because, if animals were possibly human in their past lives, their 'bad' karma lead them to become animals and if that view impacts how Buddhists treat animals. I would appreciate if you could offer a Buddhist perspective on animals (and any other 'lower' realm rebirthed beings) and how we should view them and exercise compassion towards them. Animal rights and compassion towards animals is very important to me and I am sure your view would be very in depth and informed. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to me! I look forward to more videos 🙂

To explain not self, I like to think of this body or "my" body as people often refer to it as such is more like a vessel. Like a car that takes you to where you need to go. However, this car you can't choose the make, or model. You can't change the paint coat or get cool new upgrades that make it go faster or be more efficient. The same is true with our "bodies." What we are born with, is what we are given. If we're born with no legs, we can't simply grow new ones. If we're born short, then we can't wish ourselves to be tall. Therefore, this "body" isn't really ours in the traditional sense. For if it truly was, we wouldn't need to keep washing it. It would simply stay clean. And when we start to look at our "bodies" in a different context, then it is easier to see how our "bodies" aren't really ours. In this framework we can also look at beauty. Or what society considered "a beautiful body." Taken out of context, hair, nails, etc that are often considered beautiful; found in your food is anything but. It's disgusting. The body actually makes lots of "waste" products and no matter how many showers you take, it still gets dirty. 5:59 Tread lightly on the Earth. Leave nothing but footprints. Take nothing but pictures. Once you realize how much resources each person requires, then how much people overeat, you'll begin to realize that our natural resources are fleeting. We only have but one home, Mother Earth. Take good care of her. 12:50 When I was learning to quit smoking cigarettes, I was told that every time you take something away, you need to add something to replace it. Something positive, something that fills your cup. Otherwise, you're just taking a shower and putting back on your dirty clothes.15:07 The deathless almost feels like sitting on a beach floatie, waves come up and down, up and down. You're not falling off or moving as the waves move. But more like a stillness, oneness, neutrality. Like the wind is blowing but you're not moving. It's subtle. ❤ 18:16

Speak the truth will hurt others. Telling lies will mislead others. Don't speak, not being fair to others. Buddha speaks the truth about life and our universe. Phenomena are empty in nature without characteristics, nothing can be had. As long as there is a form, it's an illusion. During Buddha Shakyamuni's period the lifespan of people, three thousand years ago is about 100 years. Every 100 years there is a deduction of one year. Today the average lifespan of people is about 70. Until it is reduce to 10 years and the new cycle starts over again. Every 100 years it increases one year until it reaches 84000 years. One cycle of up and down is one kalpas. 🙏🙏🙏Amituofo

Does all this knowledge bring you nearer to the truth? Quotes and theories based on the past and authority? You can quote and memorise a thousand scriptures but a mind “filled” with knowledge won’t be free… Have a blessed day! 🙏🙏🙏

False, the 4 Noble Truths is true for ALL cases of suffering. It’s a proof by recursion which literally proves it is true for all cases of suffering Khandas. Shunyata ie emptiness, although not emphasized in Theravada, is emphasized in Mahayana. This is through Phena Sutta and Shunyata Suttas - emptiness is part of the cessation spoke of the 4 Noble Truths. So 4 Noble Truths are not discarded, they are never deemphasized by any true teacher. Exposition of the 4 Noble Truths is the sign of a true teacher.
