PSA: Remember as I said in the video this summary is a MAJOR simplification of two philosophies & religions which have MANY sects and histories that could fit into their own entire videos. To encompass them all would take hours, this is just a very simple guide for beginners to help them get the gist of each practice & what it represents! God didn't create this universe, this earth and so many like ours to keep them barren It is we humans that get to dream, to aspire - travel the stars one day, become the next Einstein, the next Mozart But with such dreams comes pain & suffering Life without pain & suffering, without dreams and aspirations is mere existence A rock exists, a tree exists - a rock is eternal Fools chasing after eternal "life" end up as rocks

Buddhism is not robotic, Buddhists have familys, Buddhism is not agnostic, Buddhists have ceremonies, Buddhists (especially Tibetans ) practice yoga. Buddhism (ESPECIALLY Tibetan ) has color. Buddhism is clear that mind and cosmos are one. It's subtle, I know, but worth pointing out

Josh Zimmerman I agree, I think the Theravada and early Mahayana practices might’ve been a little more stoic, monastic and devoid of everything except that emptiness known as Sunyata. However, as you said Tibetan and Tantric Buddhism focus on the more colorful, alive aspects of consciousness and being. Would love to see a video in the future comparing Advaita Vedanta and Tibetan Buddhism since I feel those parallel each other more than just the general Buddhist and Hindu practices. COPIED FROM JORDAN HUNT: The best way to understand the relationship between Hinduism and Buddhism is to first remove the label from what we now refer to as Hinduism. We lump this vast array of religious and philosophical constructs into one box and say, "it is this". But there is a subtlety that is lost when we think in this way. As apposed to thinking of Hinduism as this limited thing, with boxes to be checked off to qualify as "this" or "that," it is more useful to conceive of it as a multifaceted continuum. Buddhism is historically, fundamentally, and ideologically a part of that continuum. If we remove the cultural aspects of both religions it is quite easy to see that Buddhism is based in Vedanta. The goal of both religions is the same. Hindus want to attain Moksha. Buddhist want to attain Nirvana. Same goal different paths, but the same can be said about the branches of yoga. One of the major conflicts would have to be the Hindu concept of Atman. Buddhism does not believe in an individual "soul" as Hinduism does. But Hinduism views the Atman as an expression of Brahman, this is clear. So ultimately what is given the name Atman is Brahman. Not so different from the Buddhist belief that there is no individual self. Another conflict would be the devotional disparity between the two. A misconception about Buddhism is that it is agnostic and/or nihilistic. That's just not true. Deities have always been a part of Buddhism. There was no renunciation of gods, but the idea that they are a part of cyclic existence as well, and not a means of salvation. This can seem in contrast to Hinduism but it is stated in the Vedas that one must go inward to see the "Self". This is enlightenment. This is Buddhism. The concept of detachment in Buddhism can seem like nihilism, but it is not. It's letting go of ego. Letting go of sensual experience as reality. Not being attached to what is not "real". These are all concepts of Hinduism as well. The beauty of both religions is that they are not dogmatic, but empirically flexible and all about understanding and gaining true wisdom. So wherever one's own philosophy falls it is important to remember that.

i from from nepal, i was born as hindu...the core of advaita vedanta is that "brahman only exists", everyone other than brahman is false.....mean to say that they don't exist by their own....they exist as a cause and effect.....when creation is needed, lord brahma is there.....in the absence of creation , lord brahma doesn't exist....when creation is there than only role of a vishu as preserver come into existence... like wise when destruction is needed, shiva exists....when there is heaven, hell must exist....in the absence of hell, heaven doesn't exist ......so the brahman is pure awareness, mass of consciousness, undivided essence that permeates all......i am brahman, you are brahman.....even you and i doesn't exist.....everything is void.... only brahman exist... here the statement "everything is void" is buddhism and the undivided essence(all is brahman) is hinduism....they are two faces of the same coin.... buddhism 100 % focuses on everything is impermanent and hence void in nature to realise that you are brahman.....hinduism 100 % focuses on implementing all (brahman is all) to realise the supreme truth "brahman"...but mind that Buddhism doesn't use word "brahman".....both are to realise the ultimate truth of the real nature....one(hinduism) starts from the state of soul and buddhism starts from the state of ego...thats all......i will pray to all please don't spread the hate message against any religion....all religion exist according to the need of the seekers....all are needed ....the ultimate is one .....in hinduism we talk about oneness because we start from the individual soul and seek for ultimate soul(undivided essence, absolute truth) for that we have to include all and every aspects of creation, in Christianity spirit makes a statement that there is only one absolute, oneness is not needed(jesus will take you there)....but all are pointing towards the same truth... according to karma people are drawn to certain type of spiritual method.....since brahman is all....please include and respect all.....namaste

I am sorry, but I am not interested in your competition mind set. So, good luck in your life and stay away from me // The reason for such antagonism is because of the way History has been perpetuated & appropriated by different sections of society in India. See Indian scholars have appropriated the naming & comparisons systems introduced to them by colonizers which resulted in the comparison & competitive behavior forged from Western perspective. Then these same differences spilled over in various faction due to their politicization in modern India e.g. Neo-Buddhists {they believe in is because of Hinduism there is caste system & hence they want to destroy Hinduism for Annhiliation of caste}. Now to discuss caste issue i have created a reddit thread so check the issue there - reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/8ck050/is_the_usage_of_term_caste_a_result_of/ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caste_system_in_India {You need basic understanding of this} en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dalit_Buddhist_movement {to understand Neo-Buddhist movement} en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hindutva {Counter religio-political nationalist movement} The result of Neo-Buddhist aka Dalit Buddhist Movement is that many people have forged counter Hindutva movement & they both see both these traditions from their own colored glasses & you have encountered one such individual above.

The best way to understand the relationship between Hinduism and Buddhism is to first remove the label from what we now refer to as Hinduism. We lump this vast array of religious and philosophical constructs into one box and say, "it is this". But there is a subtlety that is lost when we think in this way. As apposed to thinking of Hinduism as this limited thing, with boxes to be checked off to qualify as this or that, it is more useful to conceive of it as a multifaceted continuum. Buddhism is historically, fundamentally, and ideologically a part of that continuum. The goal of both religions is the same. Hindus want to attain Moksha. Buddhist want to attain Nirvana. Same goal different paths, but the same can be said about the branches of yoga. One of the major conflicts would have to be the Hindu concept of Atman. Buddhism does not believe in an individual soul as Hinduism does. But Hinduism views the Atman as an expression of Brahman; this is clear. That is enlightenment, just like Buddhism.

In thich nhat hanh's(a buddhist) book "The Other Shore" translation of the heart sutra he does explain an idea called "interbeing." Interbeing means that in a way we are connected to the whole universe; like a book requires trees, tree requires cloud, cloud requires water, and etc. Basically if you keep tracing these you will realize everthing is connected in a certain way. I feel like although they do not have the concept of brahman its a similar idea. "Everything is empty of a seperate self, but full of everything that allows them to be. "
@karan2005906 жыл бұрын
hello austin, the thing u r talking about interbeing is from the avatamsaka sutra of mahayana buddhism that developed in india and went to east asia. that interbeingness is called INDRAJAAL or INDRA'S NET, indra being a hindu celestial god. the idea of INDRA'S NET is actually taken from the ATHARVA VEDA(approx 1000 BCE) where it was first mentioned.
@AustinRan1216 жыл бұрын

Hustle Loy The comment was making it sound like "boobism" is wrong or bad for not having a diety. Im not saying christianity, or judaism are super great. But christianity and judaism arent pracitcing non duality, vedantists/hindus do practice non duality. So you would think the vedantists would realize that everyone is in their own place karmically and we are all working towards the same goal(self realization). Like sri ramakrishna's analogy. *At the base of the mountain there are many different paths(religions), but at at the top of the mountain you will realize all the paths lead to the the same place(oneness with ultimate reality/god head). So we need to realize that not everyone puts reality through the same filter and that buddhism, christianity, hinduism or any other religion are going to work work better for different people. So it does not make someone else wrong just because they do not see the world through your eyes.

Brunna Daros Vedanta literally means Vedas (the core text of Hinduism/Sanatana Dharma).Its a Hindu philosophy, there are 6 orthodox schools of thought in Hinduism among that the one you are looking at is probably Advaita Vedanta
@jairosoft6 жыл бұрын
Vedanta is a set of Hindu "Bibles." Also refers to the sophisticated philosophy of Hinduism, divided into two flavors: dvaita and advaita, where "a" means "non" and dvaita means "dual" so advaita means non-dual. As for Vedanta, that comes from Veda. The Veda(s) are very old literature and the more recent of these are called Vedanta or the end of the Veda(s). Vedanta includes the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita. Then there are commentaries and great expounders such as Sankaracharya or Shankaracharya (alternate spelling). I came across a good book, I think it's called Essential Vedanta.

@ajinkyadeshmukh85916 жыл бұрын
enigma I am no way proSG(actually little anti-- because much is borrowed without crediting the sources and those were talking about dhyana like Osho) I have just started reading about Buddhism (I read Buddha though but not Buddhism except for basics like noble truths and a meditation technique) like few days ago.....but sources like Osho say that Buddhist meditation techniques are limited and included in Bhairav tantra(Osho wasn't exactly Hindu..he kind of hated it..... though he did explain vigyan Bhairava tantra denying shiva has anything to do with Hinduism or Buddhism).... Osho could be very wrong ....but Sadguru actually quotes people like Osho 90% of his time including his inconic lines but people fail to realise it because they aren't really aware of it Just a question.. wasn't Buddha kind of anti bhakti ,he opposed bhakti rituals,prayers,scarifices and I also Buddha designed his own middle path and Buddhism doesn't have concept of inclusiveness of other possible paths than what Buddha taught like it is with Hinduism or Jainism (anektavada)??

Gautama Buddha Guru was Kapila , Rishi Kapila comes from atheist Branch of Vedas. They regard Vedas but reject any existence of divine. and more focus was on Upnishads. Buddha or Buddhism base is Upnishads. though in the long run whether it is Buddha, tripatak, Vedas, Upanishads, sects, Jainism, PUranas, different darshanas , etc etc etc , their ultimate goal is to prepare humans to see inside or inner or self realization/awakening . that's why in Indic system atheists, theist, agnostic, materialists etc don't matter because ultimate goal is self realization. while abrahmic religion are based on outer world or some super natural or angry god commandments to convert all the world into their religion. and History is evident, Christians and Muslims have wiped out civilizations after civilization and cultures after cultures.

Man, the more I dive into myself, the more I naturally come upon Hindu beliefs. I was contacted by a Hindu goddess years ago and since then I have on an off explored my spirituality. Recently this year Ive really gone deep and so much Hindu teaching is already in me. As I am learning about Hinduism, I am getting more confirmation than knowledge, though of course, there is still knowledge. I am very close to fully dedicating myself to this spiritual path. I am still on a couple of other paths alongside Hinduism but I agree with your other video about choosing one path to follow and really master.

There was a waterfall near us, such a lovely thin streak of water, like a thread but white and moving. It fell from a great height, but it looked quite low, and it was half a mile away, though it did not seem fifty paces. I loved to listen to it at night, but it was then that I became so restless. Sometimes I went and climbed the mountain and stood there in the midst of the tall pines, all alone in the terrible silence, with our little village in the distance, and the sky so blue, and the sun so bright, and an old ruined castle on the mountain-side, far away. I used to watch the line where earth and sky met, and longed to go and seek there the key of all mysteries, thinking that I might find there a new life, perhaps some great city where life should be grander and richer--and then it struck me that life may be grand enough even in a prison.

I've found the Nobel 8 fold path and the practice of Yoga to quite similar. Yoga puts forth all the right actions and selfless service for the benefit of all others similar to 8 fold path In fact, reading the Bagavad Gita made me feel as if I was reading Buddhist texts! The two religions are so strikingly close. Buddhism just has a straight forward scientific method for reaching enlightenment, whereas Hinduism is more sportatic and multifaceted with Bahkti, raja, karama yoga etc. In the end of the day, both paths lead to better human beings and a more connected spirit and thats all that really matters hey :)

I feel the same way....and it isn't very strange at all. Regardless of whether Buddha actually really intended to "invent" a new religion, or not - he did non the less start a sort of protest movement against elements within the contemporary Vedic religion that he saw as corrupt or downright evil, such as the caste-system, the hereditary brahmin-system, animal-sacrifice, superstitious beliefs and practices etc., etc...but he did still come from that same culture and background. And so he started to promote the ideas that he found within the Upanishads (and perhaps also other at that time new and more or less "revolutionary" texts) together with what he found out through his own experiences and revelations. And as far as I know the more modern Hinduism that we are familiar with today also started to grow out of texts such as the Upanishads. Also, as we can clearly see for ourselves in for ex. the Yoga-Sutras - Buddhism and the more modern Hinduism must have been cross-pollinating each other for a long time, if not even millennia. Just look at the "Noble Eightfold Path" and the "Ashta-anga (Eight Limbed) Yoga" found within the Yoga Sutras for ex. Or the Ethics found in both traditions - they are literally the same. So, to me both Buddhism and at least the practice (or Yoga) of Hinduism are both clearly what I would call "Yogic" traditions. Since both are centered upon the practice of meditation and ethics to help pierce the veil of Maya and thus gain supreme knowledge of the Real, and achieve Nirvana/Moksha - or Liberation! Though, if I would mention one thing that I believe separate them - in a way that I believe is probably irreconcilable. It would be that Buddhism doesn't believe in an eternal, unchanging soul, so that you in Buddhism have what they call Anatman (Not-Self), instead of Atman. And I believe that this, which makes up one of the three so called 'Marks of Existence', which is "Dukkha, Anicca and Anatman" - or "Suffering/Unsatisfactorines and Not-Self", which they in Buddhism see as being the Ultimate Truth of Existence, ultimately sets Buddhism apart from Hinduism. That and that there is no God(s) within Buddhism, at least not any that meddle in human affairs and thus are worthy of worship and/or can help you achieve Nirvana - but that that is a prospect solely up to you alone! So, while both paths are in many ways similar in the sense that they are both yogic traditions with similar practices and are both oriented towards Ultimate Liberation, or Nirvana/Moksha - Buddhism is, in contrast to Hinduism a non-Theistic tradition. At least that's my take on it. Either way, I also find it useful to kind of "cherry-pick" from both traditions. For example, even though I'ld say that Theravada-Buddhism probably is the one tradition that lay closest to my heart, I also make use of certain meditation-techniques found in the Vajra-yana tradition. And, apart from that I also like to make use of several elements found within the Hindu Yoga tradition, such as Prana-yama, Dharana, Trataka as well as some Asanas, to make myself more flexible so that I can sit more comfortably for longer periods of time. Anyway, I would like to thank India and I humbly bow down to the timeless sages for all the wisdom they have found and shared with the rest of the world. I hope with all my heart that I one day will afford to visit the land of all the timeless wisdom - India. Namaste.

nah. There is absolutely no metaphysical difference between all dharmic traditions (Hindu, Jain, Buddhist and Sikh) other than different codes of conduct. Stricter codes of conduct mean less popular. it is the reason why both Jainism and Buddhist way of ascetic life was never popular. But colonialists wanted to revive long death Buddhist cult to pit it against Hindu tradition so that the so called 'Dalits" can be converted to Buddhism through 'Ambedkar" who had very poor knowledge of both Buddhism and Hindu tradition anyways because he rejected meditation and reincarnation aspect of Buddhism let alone Hindu tradition. So, he failed miserably in converting 'Dalits" to Buddhism in large numbers. Rigid birth based caste system (which did not allow social mobility) was also created by colonialsits or Lord Risley or Herbert Hope Risley (a British agent) in the 19th century. He morphed ancient and flexible jathis (occupational groups which allowed social mobility) and 4 varnas (colors of character of a person shaped by past karma not birth family) and RE- classified people based on race science (nose size and head shape). The same race science was later used in Africa by Christian missionaries which led to Rwandan genocide and conversions. Point is all 4 dharmic traditions (Hindu. Buddhist, Sikh and Jain) understand and accept 4 core concepts based on well validated Vedic metaphysics. 1. Dharma 2. Law of karma 3. Reincarantion 4. Moksha Moreover, original Buddha (1900 BCE) was a Hindu. He followed Vedas (he did not deny athma) , was a vegetarian and spoke Sanskrit. Fake Buddha (550 BCE) who spoke fake Pali and ate Beef was created by colonialists. The whole Nirvana Buddhist cult right now is based on the fake Buddha who was created out of thin air by colonialists to pit Buddhism against hindu/vedic tradition. They also created King Ashoka out of thin air to show that he converted from "bad hinduism: to good buddhism". Nice try.

if you are talking about 'science", here are some of the quotes by eminent quantum physcists on well validated 'Hindu/Vedic" metaphysics. ERWIN SCHRODINGER (ONE OF THE FOUNDING FATHERS OF QUANTUM MECHANICS) Schrodinger's biographer Moore wrote -- “His system - or that of the Hindu Upanishads/Vedas - is delightful and consistent: the self and the world are one and they are all. He rejected traditional western religious beliefs (Jewish, Christian, and Islamic) not on the basis of any reasoned argument, nor even with an expression of emotional antipathy, for he loved to use religious expressions and metaphors, but simply by saying that they are naïve--and will NOT understand Quantum physics and consciousness. (CONSCIOUS, IMMANENT AND OMNIPRESENT SELF = SHIVA and THOUGHTS/BODY/W0RLD/UNIVERSE = SHAKTHI OR THE INTELLIGENT ENERGY) Erwin Schrodinger wrote: “Vedanta teaches that consciousness is singular, all happenings are played out in one universal consciousness and there is no multiplicity of selves.” Albert Einstein ``Whenever I read Bhagavad Gita, everything else seems superfluous. I've made Vedas as the guide for the formation of my theories and scientific investigation" Werner Heisenberg _ (One of the pioneers in the field of quantum mechanics) - "Quantum ideas which seemed so crazy made sense only after reading hindu/vedic metaphysics" Carl Sagan (Astrophysicist) “The Hindu/Vedic tradition is the world’s greatest tradition dedicated to the idea that the cosmos itself undergoes an immense number of deaths and rebirths. It is the only tradition in which the time scales correspond no doubt to those of modern scientific cosmology. The cycles run from our ordinary day and night to a day and night of Brahma - 8.64 billion years long. It is longer than the age of the Earth, the Sun, and half the time since the Big Bang.” It also means, 'Big Bang" does not mean "one time" 'creation" of the universe (out of thin air) around 4004 BCE at 8.30 am in the morning by some transcendent god with a magic wand. 😀😀

Describe Buddhist reincarnation under the anatta principle please (the buddha chose not to speculate on metaphysical issues for their irrelevance)!
@DjDizzy2166 жыл бұрын
TheAltruismActivist Trongpa Rinpoche said it’s our neuroses, the clinging/attachment/desire that gets reincarnated. It’s like a potential with karmic momentum behind it that ripples through time in different incarnations. When you are liberated you leave attachment behind, then there is nothing to reincarnate. Nibbana. Some people get the wrong idea of "no self"... there is no self meaning you doesn’t exist independently, you exist in dependence of everything else. Google the “net of Indra” to get a visual idea of what Buddhism means by that.

Buddhism is more practical and it makes more sense, the Buddha knew Hinduism was iffy, if not he woulda stayed to be the king and rule over a lot of Hindus but he knew something was wrong with that way of life. He did practice it before under great Hindu teachers

I'm hindu but most or all hindus go to Buddhist, sikh and jain temple to Pray 🙏 cuz its is closer to Hinduism, as all these philosophies branch out of hinduism , in many Asian countries you'll see hinduism and Buddhism intertwined in their culture, infact in Hinduism too there are different philosophies called Darshanas ,in which there are atheistic or materialistic philosophies

Shukria 🙏 ji. I've been waiting 2 years to take Sanyasi in India. I've tried to go to temples in U.S. but they always want 50$-200$ just for morning Puja. I just moved next door to a Buddhist temple and learning to switch over from Hinduism..but my am puja to deities is so deep in my heart. I can't live without my Ganepatye and Siva. But God is steering me into Buddhism now. 🙏🙏 Om namah Shivaya. Ji . Thanks for all your videos Ji🙏🙏🙏❤️

Idk why people are so much into religious arguments in the comments. It's so simple to understand Hinduism - Theism with dharma and Karma Buddhism - Atheism with dharma and Karma A part of it is same as Hinduism, making it a part of Hinduism. Still both are opposite! One believes in God the other religion doesn't. One is Theist and another is Atheist

Please don't try to connect Buddhism to hinduism. Because it have major difference between them, gautama left hindu because hinduism have many incomplete think that buddha try to complete but he proposed new religion so. Lot of think that not related to real life is mentioned in hinduism which is totally wasted. But Buddha want to improve it in Buddhism so thats why Buddhism is totally different from hinduism which not really accepted

Another important difference: Buddha left Hinduism, because he did not believe in the caste system. He believed that anyone can become enlightened, no matter which caste they are in and no matter what their past lives were. I make no opinion on the subject, however, I do believe it is important to understand that both have a very different worldview.
@xXskyanethiaXx6 жыл бұрын
I wondered that, as I figured that the caste system was not supposed to be based on birth, but rather choice and ability...the way it seems to be in the U.S. I have only read some of the Vedas and Upanishads, but that was years ago. Recently though (last year), I read the Mahabharata in a University class, and while it does seem to place a huge emphasis on birth, I know it also questions it, since Lord Krishna was of lower caste, which is quite fascinating. That is good to hear that many gurus have been from lower castes...were they allowed to read the Vedas and the Upanishads? I was under the impression that lower castes in India are now allowed to (but I am aware that one could become enlightened without scriptures). Very fascinating, thank you! Do you think that the caste system in India will stop being based on birth any time soon?
@tejasvi18joshi6 жыл бұрын
you are talking about that social system which came into existence in 16th century then how can was Buddha against so called caste system. and btw why this caste system came into existence in 16th century. it came because of islamic invasions 11th century onwards, puting Hindus in doing dirty jibs which was not exited in India before like throwing of human wastes , killing of cows, making of leather, meat cooking etc etc from these kinds of jobs a group of Hindus were created by Muslims turk invaders later that became lower caste and later more divisions and destruction was created by British christian invaders. First you have to differentiate between religion/philosophy/tradition/moksha/meditation/practices and society/ social system to run a country. as per your logic white supremacy, class discrimination, racism, slavery, wiping out of native of america and australia, invading other countries by christians and wiping out their culture , loot and forceful conversion are part of Christianity. In India always had Varna system means choosing a profession according to talent and capability. but one can only choose one talent .Brahmans means teacher, artist, policy maker they can't generate wealth. Kshatriya means administrator , lawyer, army. they can get only specific knowledge and weapon but not wealth . Vaish means trader and businessman their duty is to generate wealth for state. Sudras means they are agriculture land owners and duty to arrange food for society, service provider and clerk etc. in your own country this varna system is practiced because it is universal. but in vedic varna system society had almost no corruption because there was no conflict of interest but today all over the world state and society have corruption because of conflict of interest.

There were so many budhas before sidartha..So many people had achieved what budha had which by some ancient people were considered as kinda gods and worshiped..Rituals in india began so many years after santana dharma was realized..and by the time buddha was born those rituals had evolved into so many different ways..To which he found a unsolving method...So he started his journey for the quest of life(santana dharma)..This concludes that the ones who followed the earlier buddhas created the now called hindus and the ones who followed buddha became the buddhist(both aren't a self proclaimed religions) one can neither b proud of being hindu nor buddhist..both are trying to follow santana dharma through the path of different buddhas
