Ajahn Brahm talks about how limiting expectations can be, and how to let go of expectations in order to give all you've got to whatever you're doing in the here and now.

Someone asked Ajahn Brahm about other people taking advantage of you... A healthy answer is that we all have a right to say "No", to ask others how to be treated, to put boundaries, and to have our own opinions. Psychologists say this is necessary in many situations to have good relationships.

My expectation today made me feel depressed, because l thought telling someone to watch a video on about suffering a depression from the buddhist society of Western Australia, would help them feel better, l thought they'd be thankful and say " oh ok thanks, l'll check it out " but instead they replied back saying " No thanks " . Which up set me, it was like a dagger to my heart😔😭 To think they don't wanna know how to live a happier life, or learn about Buddhism. Perhaps theyre Christian and hate Buddhists? I don't know, or perhaps they just didn't feel like watching it because they don't wanna hear about suffering and depression, because they're worried it might make them feel more depressed, or just don't wanna listen to a long talk cause to them it's boring?. Truth is , l don't really know why. Not much l can do about it l suppose. I'll just move on.

I kept lowering my expectations and ended up in a psychiatric hospital. Why does so much of what Ajahn Brahm says sound like "Don't bother"?
