there is a difference in fragmentation and regeneration, in fragmentation the organism like spirogyra, it gets divided and grows into new individuals but in regeneration like planaria they need to get cut up before regenerating into new individuals.

@@for_tannies planaria doesn't regenerate until it is physically harmed before hand unlike fragmentation which is automatic as the organism wants to reproduce and make it's progeny. hope that helps, have a great day:)

In fragmentation after the spirogyra divides, it dosen't regrow its body. Each fragment behaves like an adult spirogyra, and that is why this is an example of fragmentation not regeneration. Planaria is an example of regeneration

In fragmentation the organism itself splits in peices and then grows but in regeneration someone or by accidentally the organism is cut and it grows .....planaria cannot reproduce by it's own unless and until no one cuts it....

no, regeneration only takes place when the organism has been cut off because of the external forces like if a human cut it, etc as mentioned in the textbook. Whereas in fragmentation, spirogyra splits into multiple fractions (by itself) which then grow into individual spirogyra by regeneration. I hope this explains your doubt :))))
