When I see a legend like Buddy Guy reach down and help a 'new kid'...that makes you even more legendary in my eyes.

Buddy Guy, arguably the greatest guitar player in the world, was driving a tow truck to make ends meet when Eric Clapton brought him onto his fundraising concert, bringing him back into the public eye. Decades of Guy's career were sidelined because of incompetent management and petty jealousy among prominent musicians at Chess who (rightly) feared being upstaged. Now Guy makes sure that he does all he can to help talented young musicians get recognized. Buddy Guy is simply the greatest. As talented as is Quinn, it's difficult to rise up in today's crowded world, but getting to play alongside Buddy Guy is a BIG stage. Now we just wait to see if Quinn is the next Bonamassa or the next Buddy Guy - both of which are great artists. And then my great grandchildren can talk about who is their generation's Quinn Sullivan.

suggesting different Steve, don't know the circumstances though I feel when Buddy Guy first heard this young musician chopping some blues....he had to say WTF is this marvelous talent here shreading his elders so hard... not thinking he reached down at all cause this young futher HOF member was already soaring.... Buddy Guy is a true legend in music....

Not the first time, either. Look up Scott Holt, or better yet, go watch early 90s Buddy Guy videos. And this is really good for Buddy, too. Fresh faces bring younger audiences in, and hanging with young people helps keep you young. Jeff beck has done this with Jennifer Batten and with several bass players.

Yep, same as Clapton did for Buddy, BB and the other Black musicians,. bringing them to London in 60s and paying dues to them and making sure THEIR music got acknowledged and then took em back to America where blacks didn't want to know and where there was segregation STILL! The English and British ENSURED that ended, refusing to play anywhere that had discrimination or segregation! And THATS the Story of the Blue and Rock! 👌❤️🎸😎👊

Years ago at the Kingston Mines in Chicago on Monday nights was jam night. All the blues players in town would show up there. Never know who was gonna show up. Buddy, Muddy, Sugar Blue, Willie Dixon, Jr., Erwin Helfer, Jimmy Johnson, Koko Taylor, Howard Levy, Corky Siegal. It was like blues And1 pickup basketball game. I'd grab a beer and stand in the back. Some of the best music ever was on those Monday nights. Musicians just reaching back for a little extra for one another. Brought a friend along one night. Buddy got up and needed a bass player. My friend hollars, "Hey Buddy, my friend here plays bass real good." Buddy says, "Well, c'mon up young man." My friend shoved me out. He was laughing...I wasn't. I didn't have a bass so someone sticks an orange Rickenbacker in my hands. The strap was too long. The bass was heavy and awkward. I 'played' bass, but wasn't a bass player. I was a roots, blues, folk, bluegrass acoustic player, mostly. I plug in and Buddy says, "Everyday in B flat. On the five." WHAM the whole band kicks into Everyday I Have The Blues and I bust out my best Chris Squire, busy, paid by the note, lead bass. Nervous, but happy. About halfway through the song during the organ solo Buddy leans into me as says, "Boy, if you don't slow down and put some bottom on that rig? I'm gonna put that treble pot up yo' ass." Then he breaks into a big smile and winks at me. I did what he said. lol That was in 1989. 30+ years ago. When we came off he said, "Nice job, youngblood." He was just being nice. lol National treasure. Bringing the young ones along.

ah, the mines. dear to my heart that place. another one - i used to go to the checkerboard lounge - once saw buddy chew out junior wells at the bar for being loaded on stage during junior's break. was a great show anyway. that place was something else - ladies from down the block would just walk down there in the summertime and dance in their fuzzy slippers (lol), sometimes there was a guy with a cart selling pig skins outside... man... in a small room with some of the greats. i missed the time that muddy showed up with the stones just by a few days. dammit!!

In Chicago many years ago, The Chicago Historical Society had Buddy Guy there one evening to celebrate reopening after renovations. It was so packed that we could not get in So I played played soccer just outside with my son where we could hear him play. He was about 12 at the time and loved blues. After the concert, Buddy went out back to his van and my son raced around to get his autograph. Neither had a pen so buddy took a few photos with him and spoke to him a few minutes, treating him like gold. They don't make them any finer than Buddy. Aside from being the greatest blues player on the planet even in his eighties, he is also one of the kindest and most generous people, spreading love and peace wherever he goes.
