My stepdad when He met my mother drove a 58 pink 58 Chevy impala Convertible. I was six years old, and my two sisters and I would sit on top of the back seat while my stepdad and mom cruised around.

I worked on the restoration of a 58 Impala 15 years ago. It was a 500 point AACA grand national winner. I really love them after getting to work on that car. They were even available with air ride. I got lucky enough during the restoration that someone had produced all of the factory build books, without them the restoration would never have been 500 points.

Why does the build plate look like it's been painted over? It matches the firewall color perfectly, Were the built plates usually painted over?

My first car ever was a '58 Impala all black, 348 stone crusher with the Turboglide slush box. Bought it in '68 and traded it 2 years later for a '62 'vette 327 w/ a 4spd. Letting them both go were 2 of the biggest mistakes I've made. Hindsight is always 20-20. 😢
