Written by the bros. Gibb. These guys once sat in a room for a single afternoon and wrote 3 no.1 hits. This song was actually written for Otis Redding, whom they greatly admired, but he crashed a used airplane bought from James Brown into a like in Madison WI before he got the chance to record it. It's one of their most covered songs. Buddy does a great country-flavored version of it here. The BeeGees of course did a nice job with it as well, which of course charted. MIchael Bolton absolutely pulverized the thing (as he always does) with some commercial success.

Drop D tuning with capo on 2nd fret? Wondering the reasoning behind this....and I'm sure Buddy has a specific reason.
@mitzworld4 жыл бұрын
Normal tuning with capo at 2nd fret. playing in E using the D & G chord shapes. This creates a different (softer IMO) voicing.
@kyotojoel4 жыл бұрын
@@mitzworld - Thanks...just to double check tho: If it is normal tuning, how is it that when he strums the 6th string, it plays an E when it is capo'd on 2nd fret? (See at 0:38, for example.)
@mitzworld4 жыл бұрын
@@kyotojoel He is playing a "D" chord shape with capo on 2nd fret. That will sound as an E chord.
@kyotojoel4 жыл бұрын
@@mitzworld - I understand what you are saying and agree that a capo 2 D shape chord sounds like an E chord. That being agreed upon, to my ears (and eyes) however, it appears at 0:38 that he strums through all 6 strings, starting with the 6th string, which still sounds like an E to me.
@mikeherndon99453 жыл бұрын
@@kyotojoel it’s called “Drop D” tuning because you tune the low E string down a whole step to D. So when you capo on 2nd fret you can play all 6 strings with the Low D underneath it.

Buddy, so damn good! hey, whoever wrote the title, I know they recorded it but it's not BeeGees , Jeez. check out Nina Simone singing this song - she wrote it and she is the last word in feeling.
@musicmatters0099 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your note but Nina's was also a cover of the Bee Gees song - written by the Gibbs. She did a great version though - you are right about that. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/To_Love_Somebody_%28song%29
@Kaitler_Motorsport_Engineering9 жыл бұрын
+howdyjed you have no idea, this is a Bee Gees song, written and recorded by the Bee Gee. Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb. Yes Nina Simone did a cover of it as did heaps of other artists,but its not her song. Buddy has done a fine cover of it. You might want to check the vast list of songs written by the Bee Gee for other people. Kenny Rodgers, Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Dionne Warwick, Diana Ross,Frankie Valli , Tina Turner, Destiny's Child. The list is huge, Jeez.......
