I heard Chuck at 6 Flags in St. Louis before he went to North Texas. Sat through 10 out of the 11 shows he played that day. The opener ended on a Double C#. He got stronger every show. Started the day sounding like a really strong lead player. Ended sounding like, well, like Chuck. One of the most outrageous displays of trumpet playing I’ve ever heard. Unbelievable shakes and just a gorgeous sound.

indeed, and I heard when got off Buddy's band he put his horn in the case and never touched it again.
