Bruins fan here, first off love the show. Graduated from college back in May and have been struggling to find a long term job since, the show has gotten me through many a DoorDash shift since that’s what I’m doing while I find something. I wanted to add another potential angle to the Swayman situation, I think it’s fair to say that Swayman loves the team but HATES upper management, and I don’t blame him. His entire career here has been him earning opportunities or contracts and upper management denying him of it. His first full year with the team he was sent down to Providence despite putting up excellent numbers in a backup role he was unexpectedly thrust into because Tuukka Rask was recovering from an injury and contemplating retirement and signed with the team halfway through the year. Swayman was very unhappy about being sent down because he rightfully felt he had earned a permanent position with Boston. On top of that, he referenced last summer’s arbitration multiple times throughout the year and how awful it was to go through. Now he’s in a situation where one year after upper management downplayed his value to the team with him present, he very publicly won the starting job on the biggest stage from a teammate one year removed from winning the vezina. That alone would give him a lot of leverage in negotiations, but then upper management traded away said teammate, making it even clearer that their intention was to make Swayman the long term starter. Now Swayman has the opportunity to make management sweat and potentially expose them for a bad trade and make it look even worse if Korpisalo struggles to start the season, and I fully support him taking it. I have been a Don Sweeney hater for a long time, credit where credit is due Sweeney has had a great track record of getting players to sign team friendly contracts, but he has made SEVERAL questionable trades during his tenure as Bruins GM, and very publicly had one of the worst possible drafts his first year as the GM, that of course being the infamous 2015 first round where they drafted Jake DeBrusk, Zach Senyshyn, and Jakub Zboril all in a row, which was immediately followed by Matt Barzal, Kyle Connor, and Thomas Chabot. Anyways all of that to say that as a Bruins fan, I do hope Swayman gets everything he asks for and I am fully on his side in these negotiations

On the Lehner situation, I believe it has a lot more to do with his legal troubles than anything. Last week a federal bankruptcy court froze his assets because he (allegedly) lied to his creditors to avoid paying them. In the court ruling it stated that in the 15 months since he filed for bankruptcy he's spent over $1.5 million (on gambling, vacations and luxury purchases) and has been actively transferring millions of dollars to shell companies to hide his money. Outside the hockey implications, it's very likely that the creditors are seeking to receive the money he would be paid directly due to this activity.

1:25:00 Ducks. McTavish 21, Carlsson 19, Gauthier 20, Sennecke 18. That is Verbeek's core and who is he is going to build around. You also hit on why Zergras is on the trade market. He was there prior to when Verbeek was hired. He isn't one of Verbeek's guys just like Drysdale wasn't. He's also a commodity that other teams would want and will give good assets or players back for.

I'm a Bruins fan. Swayman is my favorite player and has been since he earned his roster spot. He's only becoming even more my favorite player with all of this. I know Boston fans have this earned rep of being dogshit to our guys, but what Swayman is doing is good for players, good for the game, and ultimately I think could be good for Boston's team culture. I'd argue that since Bergy and Tuuks left, Swayman (and Ullmark RIP) has been the heart and soul of this team. And if management isn't willing to be half as good to him as he's been to them, they can get bent, and he'll have earned whatever massive contract he gets elsewhere. All the love and respect to Bergeron and Marchy and Pasta and everyone who has taken less than they deserve to stay with this team, but at a certain point, you have to realize you're being taken advantage of and stand up for yourself and all the guys around you
@jaikohaalКүн бұрын
As a B’s fan I half agree. I think what also matters is how are you are outside of that. Take Leafs’ players for example. I think people would criticize them a lot less if the core was standing up for the rest of the team, and pulling them along positively in an emotional way. I adored and loved the tandem, and it was so nice while it lasted. But they’re kind of always was this moment of “ OK but if one of them goes, how is this going to end?” I’m all for players wanting what they deserve… but they still have to show up after that. So if Swayman wants to set the bar for tendy RFAs thats fine. But he can’t become a pumpkin after that. Its not just personal stats. Cup winners are made up of teams not individuals. Last thing I want to see is another team becoming a checkpoint in a player’s bank book. Crosby, Stamkos, Bergy, some of the most successful names and leaders of their respective teams understood it was team first to win big. So its really less about the dollar amount, more so about the attitude that comes with it that I’m interested in. P.s not here to argue with a fellow fan; so I hope that point above makes sense if not, please ask for clarity instead of destroying me 😂

I will never understand why people talk about professional athletes "not getting their worth" as if those athletes don't make an absolute fortune already. In a hard salary cap, certain positions NEED to be prioritized, and therefore have a higher % of the cap dedicated to them. Almost NOONE pays RFA goaliest what Swayman is asking for. Only one ever has been (Vasilevsky), and it was AFTER he had been a starter for years, and had a Vezina. Swayman also won't be walking anywhere else, as no team offer sheeted him. He is a free agent, so he can, and has been talking to other teams. Clearly they also do not want to pay him what he is asking. Put simply, he is asking more than literally any NHL team is willing to pay him. He needs to come down from his asking price more. Full stop
@chrispyle6873Күн бұрын
@jaikohaal actually fully agree! Swayman absolutely has to match the number he gets if it works out his way. Which is a difficult thing for goalies, especially - looking at you, Bobrovsky. Not trying to give the guy more credit than he deserves prematurely, but I think if he's going to set this bar then he has to play up to it, otherwise the bar hasn't really been set. In terms of team success/morale, I feel like Sway is the type of guy that can pull the team up with him, not leave them behind. If I see something to the contrary, I think my opinion of him will be permanently changed for better or worse
@jaikohaalКүн бұрын
@@chrispyle6873Absolutely agree with your take here! Lol love a civil talk. Yeah I won’t know till we get there; but Swayman has enough positive personality (cough Binnington) to actually pull the team along. But I agree…we need to get to december with him signed to really feel a way about it.
@chrispyle6873Күн бұрын
@sonofthg yeah, I fully understand they make a fortune. They're sacrificing their bodies at the highest possible level for our entertainment. If I had it my way, every single person working any job where they put life and limb on the line would get paid just as much and more, but that's not the issue at hand here. I understand the businessman mentality, and I don't even think you're wrong in the reality of the hard-cap situation the league currently exists in, but personally, I'm also against the hard cap, so whatever pushes the league to continue raising it, or move away from that system, I'm for 🤷♂️

Unfortunately Steve is right, and the most right he was was when he said "it will take a player dying on the ice for real change to happen". With the NHL management the way that it is, it will take a player dying on the ice for them to take player safety seriously. But I just want to point out that it starts with us, the fact that ANYONE celebrates Brad Marchand ever is insane to me. He could score 100 goals a game, he should not be in the league. Until we're brave enough to tackle the big names too, we won't be able to force any change at all.

Goalies should get a higher league minimum, double the current one, so about $1.8 million. A rookie goalie getting into the NHL has more skill than a rookie skater. A rookie skater might get 5 minutes of ice time per game. A rookie goalie playing 7 games gets the same ice time in a season as a bottom 4 rookie. They get a lot more pressure. Idk if Swayman is worth 8+/season but Sweeney sure alienated Swayman, especially if he lied publicly. Someone would trade for him for sure. I think the Oilers should try something. They could sacrifice the picks for a 9 mill one year deal.

Can’t wait for this comment section to be a shitshow of Habs and Sens fans. Look, did Xhekaj hit Stutzle in the head? No, when you compare the angles, it was the stick hitting the face, while Xhekaj hit the right shoulder and hands (which caused the stick to go up). Does that make what Xhekaj did ok? Still no, it was clear retaliation for Grieg, and even if he doesn’t actually make contact. We know that was the intention with the chicken wing coming out after. Personally I have no problem with the punishment being getting kicked out of the game. What actually happened on the ice was 2 mins interference, what he was trying to do would have got him a suspension. So the fact he lost the rest of the game and gave Ottawa the lead with the PP seems like a fine middle ground.
